The Stink of Politicians

This speaks for itself.

Via Breitbart:

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators.

Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud and wire fraud, and tax evasion for underreporting his income in 2004.

Cunningham answered "yes, Your Honor" when asked by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties.

Later, at a news conference, he wiped away tears as he announced his resignation.

"I can't undo what I have done but I can atone.

It's amazing how tears and thoughts of atoning only show up when one has been caught. Let him rot in prison for betraying the trust of the American people and for stinking up the congress even more. At this point the whole place might blow up just from the carbon monoxide.

True, but it's also amazing how lies and defiance show up when one has been caught (i.e., in the case of BJ Clinton). Although both should be held accountable for lying to me, and lifetime imprisonment is justified, only RD Cunningham has apologized and is willing to accept that justice. I respect him for that.

I have to differ and say I do not respect Rep. Cunningham. I do not respect anyone who steals, lies and is corrupt. Plain and simple, no sugarcoating.

Why politicians think they can steal is beyond me, what special entitlement thinks they are entitled to things they are not entitles to? Tammy, right on with your analysis as usual.

I hope he has to serve every minute. He won't. Here in Chicago we just has some uber-leftoid columnist get busted for smacking his wife around in a drunken rage. I guess he went into rehab and now he's being hailed as a brave man who "stared his demons in the face and took control of his life". In his first efort after getting sprung he mentions his "smart-aleckey" (sp?) wife. What "man's man" today's men are, next thing he'll be crying in public like Cunningham. I tell you...my 'ol man and the old timers I've worked with over the years gotta be spinning in thier graves.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The man is scum, he has done plenty of lying about this up until now to try and cover his butt. Sometimes people have to be confronted by a brick wall before they will try to fly right.

Everyone remembers Jimmy Baker and the decadent lifestyle he was living by bilking old ladies out of their pension money. Well, he eventually went to prison. When he got out he wrote a book thick enough to choke a horse that was entitled "I Was Wrong." Something similiar happened to Chuck Colson.

I hope that Rep. Cunningham does something to try to atone for what he did. I also hope that the people who bribed him do even more time that he did, and that the companies they worked for face fines of 100's of millions of dollars. We need to make it so corruption is not a risk worth taking.

"The truth is, I broke the law, concealed my conduct and disgraced my office. I know that I will forfeit my freedom, my reputation, my worldly possessions and most importantly, the trust of my friends and my family," R.Cunningham

Ummmm, no mention of the taxpayers or his constituents? Sorry indeed.

Never trust grown men that use nicknames like "Duke", "Scooter" or "Mugsy".
