Look at what these sadistic Islamist freaks are putting Jill Carroll through. They have released their latest scream-fest featuring this young woman. Anyone who still questions the moral justification of the WoT and the need to completely vanquish these modern day monsters should offer themselves up to take Carroll’s place.
Any takers? Barbra Streisand? Joel Stein? Christianne Amanpour? Cindy Sheehan? Yoo hoo…

Her captors are disgusting, vile, manipulative, souless, and unworthy of the humanity with which they were born.
However, I’m not ready to accept that everything is as it seems here.
Between the Two Simonas, Sgrena, and Osthoff, a pattern of hostages being taken, ransoms paid, and in the case of Osthoff, it’s been suspected sharing in the ransom money.
The only articles I could find written by Jill Carroll before her abduction were in Salon and AlterNet. Though they are not screedy and reflexively anti-Bush, they definitely spin events as negatively as possible and fit within the venues they were posted.
Is it significant that CSM hasn’t ever published her work?
It’s a strange feeling to have these thoughts, on the one hand she’d be much, much better off if she was ‘in’ on her kidnapping and it was a staged affair to embarrass the U.S. and garner sympathy for the insurgency. If this is the case, and there is no evidence other than a pattern of past events, then she’s not really in danger. It would also make her as vile as the insurgents, which is also a terrible thought.
On the other hand, if she’s an unfortunate victim picked solely because she’s a non-arab, and American, then she’s in deep trouble and deserves prayers for a safe return.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who smells something a bit off with this particular kidnapping, and in many ways I hope I’m right rather than wrong, the awful consequences of a journalist gone ‘native’ are better than the awful consequences of a journalist snatched off the streets trying to do her job.
Either way I hope she gets home safely.
[Actually, Carroll has been published by the CSM. You can find her co-written article here....ed.]
I don’t know why people can’t do simple math. Sand + heat = glass. I’ve been saying for a couple of years now that it’s time to make a few hundred thousand new windows.
Correction appreciated. Most of my point holds up. It’s only a suspicion, but a suspicion born of similarities to the past events I linked.
Plus one other thought I have is that the detainees they are demanding to be released were scheduled to be released soon anyway, so what better way to claim influence then to snatch someone, demand the release of people who through some channel you found out were likely to be released, and then give up your hostage when your demands had ‘been met’.
If that’s the strategy of the hostage takers then it wouldn’t matter if Carroll was a willing dupe or true victim.
Also if the takers were that rational (a big if) then the chance of her surviving would be high, as they would get better press and regard (other than from the crazier crazies) by letting her live and having their demands ‘met’ then by butchery.
Of course the ny times via the aclu would rather publish more pictures of abu ghrab abuse of prisoners.
