And while I'm ranting...WHERE'S THE MOHAMMED ACTION FIGURE??? We've seen everybody mocked by these stupid action figures except Mohammed! Why does Mohammed have a special exemption? Who died and made him god? Another question jumped into my mind, and this may sound stupid, but the question is serious (in a stupid way). You eBay mavens have noticed a regular trickle of "Jesus on toast" offerings by people who found an image of Jesus on their toast. Here's one and here's another and here's one all the way from England, just by way of example. Search on keywords "Jesus" and "toast" in the current and completed listings, and you'll find more! So...where are the Mohammed on toast sales? I don't find any, either from the past or the present! Nor do I find anyone posting their own Mohammed drawings, nor any pictures of Mohammed. Very suspicious! I mean, seriously, with all the millions of clowns in the world selling their clownish stuff online -- and you eBay watchers know what I'm talking about -- WHERE ARE THE MOHAMMED PICTURES AND TOASTS AND ALL THE OTHER STUFF??? ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!!!! Seriously, I suspect eBay is blocking this category. Who wants to list a Mohammed picture and see what happens? Somebody try it!

I guess it's worth noting the irony of the pressure for the newspapers to shut up. I just heard another story: Two editors of a University of Illinois student paper were suspended after printing a couple of the infamous cartoons. All my life, I've heard story after story of student papers printing the most disgusting and outrageous material, and this is the first time in memory I've ever heard of an editor being suspended as a result. In the past, as noxious as it was, it always ended up as a freedom of speech thing. This truly is unprecedented. (I'm sure if you dig deep enough, you'll find some stories of suspended editors, because nothing is truly unprecedented, but anyone who has lived through the era understands the essential truth of my statement.)

How are we supposed to react to such systematic insanity? Indeed, some of us most be questioning our own sanity at times, seeing as how our fundamental institutions are failing to acknowledge the threat to our most cherished values. Have they all gone blind? Or am I delusional myself? It's a frustrating era. There has always been evil in the world, and sometimes we cannot effectively oppose that evil, but we're truly lost when we're no longer allowed even to point at that evil.
