Dixie Chick Confused by Patriotism

In what is nothing less than an anti-American orgy in the UKs Telegraph newspaper, Dixie Chick Natalie Maines confirms that she really doesn't hate George W. Bush, she actually looks down on everyone who loves this country. And you know the problem with those self-obsessed MalNars--the only thing that matters, the only relevant thing, is how they feel.

And Natalie, well, doesn't understand why Americans especially love their country. Why? Because she doesn't.

How the Chicks survived their scrap with Bush

"A lot of pandering started going on, and you'd see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism."

"The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism," Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. "Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don't see why people care about patriotism."

I think that story headline might have jumped the gun just a tad. And since she "doesn't understand" patriotism, I have a short list of a few concepts which epitomize America and illustrate why we goofballs so love this country.

1) Freedom of Expression, which exists in its clear form only in America. If she doubts this she should speak to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Oriana Fallaci, Bridget Bardot and every woman in one of Saddam's mass graves.

2) Personal liberty. Only in America could someone as obnoxious and vapid as Maines become a millionaire superstar and not be arrested after speaking against her president and country abroad, especially during a time of war. She can ask any woman in Cuba, North Korea or China what it's like to not have that freedom.

3) The best health care in the world.

4) The best schools in the world.

5) The strongest economy in the world.

6) Religious freedom.

7) Democracy and the free market, allowing everyone to have an equal opportunity at achieving the most they can, limited only by their imaginations.

8) A society based on mutual respect, and hope.

Ms. Maines exemplifies the Ugly American--someone who completely takes for granted the extraordinary life the American ideal has given to people like her. She noted "you can like where you live and like your life..." but like a classic MalNar simply can't see beyond herself.

I would suggest she move to Syria or North Korea or Mexico, and see exactly how much she'd like her life in those pits. Perhaps she could also make a short visit to one of our citizen swearing-in ceremonies and chat with those people who have braved all to become American citizens. Those are people who, unlike Ms. Maines, understand the importance of joy and freedom, have fought to live it, and know that it is only in America where dreams come true.

A one-way ticket to Iran might also enlighten Maines just a tad. In the meantime, odds are she is one of the more miserable people around. She, like Michael Berg and John Murtha, must now be viewed simply as the pathetic and be pitied.

Obviously, Ms Maines doesn't realize that if it weren't for patriotism, this country wouldn't exist.

I seem to recall from American History class that a rag-tag little group of citizen soldiers came together to defeat a much better equipped and trained fighting force called the British Army. That little rag-tag group were the first patriots.

Perhaps Ms Maines should return to school for some basic history lessons.

If the even teach any history at all, instead of teaching opinions of the teacher.

Thanks for the post and the powerful words! The Dixie Chicks may wow 'em in dungeons like Iran and North Korea (the leaders in those places anyway), but at some point they will run out of fans in the USA. Not that that seems to disturb them....

Hello Tammy!

The only mistake you've made is to think that Natalie Maines actually moving to Syria, North Korea, or Mexico would change her mind. If she actually moved there, the government leaders in those countries would treat her like a hero for "standing up to the evil one".

Notice that the only people giving this air-headed, porcine looking, no-talent is a foreign rag...

Personal opinion (and the right to express it, just two of the MANY big reasons to love this country) is that Maines is white trash, KNOWS she's white trash, and tries desperately not to be white trash...unfortunately instead of taking up some form of intellectual pursuit (doubt she's equipped for such an undertaking) she's trying to take the usual celeb path to higher self esteem: trashing all the "little people" and people who better recieved by the public than she.

It's always "Miss Piggy" who seems to be speaking for the group oddly enough. Which would lead us to one or all of the following conclusions:

1. The other two are even less intellectually acute than she. (which would make them only about a notch or so above house plants.)

2. The other two are sheep, willing to nod and smile and wholey support anything the Natster says, regardless of how stupid it makes them look.

3. All three of them share one brain, and Maines hogs it whenever a reporter comes within fifty yards of them.

One or all, there's no doubting their lack of intellectual accumen, as they're obviously unaware that in pop music only Primus was able to get away with heavy use of the banjo, and only The Corrs have been able to get away with making the violin a staple of their music.(probably because THEIR violinist can play...that and the Corrs are collectively better looking than the Dixie Chicks.)

Regardless, the ONE thing that is certain is this: The Dixie Chicks are nothing more than the punchline to a joke that's starting to lose it's comedic potency.

Must that vapid airhead Maines flaunt her stupidity? Has she no concept of what exists ouside her sheltered, thus fallow world? Someone needs to take this narcissistic bore on a visit to some American War Cemeteries in Europe.

Posted by: Freudianslippers [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 17, 2006 08:10 PM

Perhaps she move to a different country. I suggest Iran. Then she might change her mind about the U.S.

Posted by: ltlme [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 12:07 AM

No talent? Are you serious? "Miss Piggy"? So you'd kick her out of bed? Here's a point I'd love to hear someone answer: Super-patriots are always claiming to be "proud" to be American. Normally we are proud for our accomplishments. Things we have done. Even if it's our children or our friends for whom we are proud, inside most of us probably harbor some glimmer of self-congratulation for having been such good parents or such supportive friends. Yet being an American is, for the overwhelming majority, a matter of birth. What exactly did you do to become American that makes you so proud?

Posted by: torch [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 12:27 AM

When the Dixie Chicks say they don't understand patriotism, I believe them! I think they have already given ample evidence of that fact.

Posted by: robert108 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 02:26 AM

Funny, I always thought pride was more associated with an attitude. Like you can be proud to support a particular sports team.

Posted by: MunDane68 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 05:37 AM

Torch, I spent more than ten years in the service of my country (ten years active and ten years reserve). I vote regardless of whether I like any of the players or not. What are you doing?

Posted by: Mike H. [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 07:51 AM

For those of us 'uber-patriots' who were born here, it's not what we do to become Americans that makes us proud, it's what we do because we're Americans that makes us proud. In her heart, Maines knows that she's never done anything to be proud of and, rather than making the effort to rectify that situation, she's lashing out in envy and spite at those who have.

Posted by: Achillea [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 18, 2006 08:32 AM

Well, Torch (what a clever name for a flame poster) what have I done? Not that I've had to DO anything to be proud of this nation, as such a sense of pride was instilled in me by A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT SEPERATES US FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD (specifically that broad set of enumerated rights, truely free markets, a chance to go as far as one's drive will take them...) but since you asked, I spent a litte time in NYC, in the aftermath of of 9/11, as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, along with other volunteers from across this nation of ours, banded together in the face of tragedy, helping out total and complete strangers to recover from the worst attack on our soil, ever. Now I don't LIVE in NYC, and many of these volunteers didn't either, but you know, in the end, these were our fellow countrymen, and they need our help. So we went there to help. It's called a sense of citizenship, a common bond with your neighbor, be it one block over, or one state over, or more.

By virtue of the fact that you had to ask, I'll totally understand if these concepts fly right over your head. As to Miss Piggy, wouldn't need to kick her out of my bed, as that skag wouldn't even be in my house.

Hope that answers your questions. If you understand the answers or not is really not my problem Flame Boy...

Tammy, I agree with your remarks 100 per cent. Natalie Maines has the right to say the things she says BECAUSE patriots loved America enough to die for it. How clueless can she get?

Posted by: Cindy Swanson [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 19, 2006 05:21 AM

I suspect Natalie has never fully come to grips, within herself, whether America is fundamentally good or fundamentally bad. I bet if you were to engage her in a dicussion she'd be uncertain how to answer that question.

Bill Buckley gave a wonderful speech about this to the West Point graduating class during the Vietnam War.

Posted by: stormsurge [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 19, 2006 07:49 AM

Natalie Maines must have the worst publicist ever or she has beed reading The Complete Idiots Guide to Derailing Your Career. I should feel worse about the enjoyment I get out of watching someone self-destruct but I just can't seem to do it.

I don't pride myself in being born in America (I actually had no input in that), but I do consider myself extremely fortunate. The pride and patriotism arises from the collective work of those past and present who have made this the best place in the world to live. Many of my family have served in uniform, and altough I can't count myself of their ranks, I am proud to patriotically serve by being an informed voter and by volunteering and giving back to others as I am able.

For the love of all the is Holy and right in this world, would chubby singer just shut the Hell up? Just because she can sing does not mean she is not a flaming moron. She has been reading too many huffington-sheehan-franken blogs

Yes, that's it in a nutshell.
