Israel Drops 23 Tons On Hez Bunker

**Update Below**

When it comes to Islamist savages, Israel is now officially rocking their freakish world.

Israeli Warplanes Target Suspected Hezbollah Bunker in Beirut

JERUSALEM — Israeli warplanes dropped bombs late Wednesday on a bunker in south Beirut where senior Hezbollah leaders were thought to be, the military said.

Military officials said a wave of aircraft dropped 23 tons of explosives on the bunker. The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters, said top Hezbollah figures were thought to be there, possibly including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The officials said the bunker was in the Bourj al-Barajneh section of southern Beirut.

Let us hope the savage Nasrallah was there. In the meantime, getting 23 tons of explosives dropped on your head should make it quite clear to Hez and their Iranian masters that they have made a monumental mistake underestimating God's Chosen People.

Go Israel!

UPDATE:

The Jerusalem Post has more background including a report that senior Hez leadership was in the bunker and that it appears the attack was "successful." While the killing of Nasrallah would be excellent, the killing of any hex leadership should indeed be considered successful.

IAF attempts to assassinate Hizbullah leadership

IAF fighter jets dropped over 20 tons in bombs late Wednesday night on a Hizbullah bunker, possibly the hiding place of the group's leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, in the Bourj al-Barajneh refugee camp in southeast Beirut. It was still unclear who was in the bunker at the time and what their fate was, but IDF sources said the bunker was totally destroyed and that all that was left was a crater...

IDF sources would not confirm that Nasrallah was in the bunker at the time, but said that high-ranking Hizbullah leaders were inside, and that it appeared that the attack was successful...

Also early Thursday morning, Israel's UN Ambassador Gillerman said in a CNN interview that "I can assure you that we know exactly what we hit. ... This was no religious site. This was indeed the headquarters of the Hizbullah leadership."

23 tons? I wonder hwo that is compared to MOABS or Daisy Cutters? Any military experts out there to answer this question? Just want perspective, oh and I hope the crater left behind is in the shape of The Star Of David!

I'm not a military expert but I believe the MOABs are approximately 15,000 lbs, which if my math is correct would mean 23 tons would be equivalent to about 3 MOABs. What I don't understand is why Israel's missile defense is not working any better, I thought we supplied Israel with our anti-missile defense systems after the first Gulf War when Saddam was shotting off scud missiles at Israel. What happened to those systems and why aren't they working any better if they are still there. That obviously needs to be ramped up bigtime.

When a story like this appears, I assume the munitions mavens had a basis for calculating how much explosive material was needed to do the job, and that's what they dropped. 23 tons sounds like a hell of a bang, but I don't have a good sense of perspective. Presumably it was a hardened bunker? Was Hez building a permanent heavy infrastructure in southern Lebanon? In my ignorance, I was assuming they were relatively light and mobile. Building a real bunker involves heavy permanent construction. That would make them even more entrenched and confident than I thought.

Anyway, when I read something like this, I try to resist getting excited or hopeful. You know how rumors are: The most outlandish ones have the most legs. If 10 guys say the leadership got away and 1 guy says the leadership got hit, the news runs the latter story. I'll celebrate when we get a hard confirmation. Obviously that's tough to do when the hard data is still in enemy territory. But sooner or later, we'll know.

Steve, the missles being used by hezbullah terrorists are coming in with a very flat trajectory. They are short-ranged and don't elevate enough for anti-missle defense systems. they are quite small too in comparision to a high arching scud. It's all in the math and speaking of math and numbers, isn't it amazing that there are 1.6 billion muslims on the planet and about only 22 million Jews, and despite the repeated efforts of said muslims to eradicate the Jews, they have not succeeded. They even invaded Israel on several occasions and were beaten back every time, but until Iran is attacked and seriously punished and militarily weakened, none of this is going to change. Does anyone have any doubt that hezbullah would use nuclear material against Israel if they could? The leader of Iran has publically stated the Israel should be wiped from the face of the earth. If Iran isn't stopped now, the trouble pending will make this current situation in Lebanon seem like a playground fist-fight between a couple of small children.

You have to admire the way Israel doesn’t take crap from anybody. It would do the U.S. well to model our defense after they way Israel goes about their business in the same manner. No six-to-eight weeks of UN resolutions…no into-the-night filibusters from Ted Kennedy…no gregarious photo ops for Chucky Schumer…just fighting fire with fire, the way wars used to be fought and won by this country before we started cow-towing to the likes of Amnesty International.

You go with your bad selves.

What I'm really enjoying is to see the Demos and their response to this situation. Most of the Demos would probably prefer that Bush pressure Israel for an immediate cease fire and be neutral but since it's an election year they don't want to make the Jewish vote in America mad. So as usual the only thing they can do is criticise Bush for not getting Americans out of Lebanon faster, and for not preventing the conflict in the first place (like they accuse him of not preventing 9/11). When it comes to Israel the Demos would prefer to be "neutral" in the conflict. I don't understand why the Jewish vote her in America is mostly Democratic?

STEVEOK-GOESH is correct about missile defense. The diff can be likened to having a dart thrown at you ten feet away,or a spear hurled at you one hundred feet away-the spear is more dangerous but you can escape it easier as you can more easily track it with your eyes.
Of course, the best missle defense system is the North Korean system--it's called...a North Korean missle! LOL! LOL! (god, i kill me)Just sit back, watch the launch and a mere 34, or so seconds later ... splash!
I think Isreal should do what Britain did in WWII--put up giant steel mesh that is held in place by huge balloons. They were very effective against ... Good God Man, what am I saying? I was in the Air Force, the best missle defense is a good ol' fashion pre-emptive special deliveries of 2,ooolb. high-yield, high-kinetic, American-made Up-yours--HOORAH!
