I'll be speaking to Claudia momentarily as I fill in for Laura Ingraham. Her must-read column is at the National Review and makes clear the absurdity of Resolution 1701. Here's your snippet:

An alternative resolution on “The Situation in the Middle East.”

It’s happy hour at the United Nations. After four weeks of Hezbollah-provoked war in Israel and Lebanon, accompanied by much diplomatic hand-wringing, the U.N. Security Council met Friday evening to adopt 15-0 its latest attempt to paper over the real problems: Resolution 1701 on “The Situation in the Middle East.” This resolution is meant to deliver the “ceasefire” that Secretary-General Kofi Annan has been calling for, also described in the lingo of the U.S. State Department as a “cessation of hostilities.”

Unfortunately, if Resolution 1701 has any effect at all, its real meaning is that we now embark on a period in which Hezbollah will seize the opportunity to regroup and reload. The feeble and compromised mix of U.N. peacekeepers and the Lebanese army, which is the force authorized in this resolution, will fail to stop them. Iran and Syria will proceed apace with their terrorist infection and subjugation of Lebanon. The U.N. will wave around this latest piece of paper to try to prevent Israel from defending itself, or, for that matter, defending the rest of us against the “Death to Israel! Death to America!” Hezbollah agenda. Iran’s President Ahmadinejad, enjoying yet another confirmation of the U.N.’s mincing impotence in the face of guns, bombs, rockets, and terror, will continue his fevered preparations to roll out the nuclear bomb.

iran is laughing. they and their terrorist proxies get to declare victory. and Claudia is quite correct in her analysis.

the forces of islamic fascism (Thanks Mr President, for calling it what it is), who would gladly sacrifice MILLIONS of their own co-religionists as long as they can kill Jews and Americans DID win this round. and the only way to wipe that demonic smile off the face of mike wallace's new boyfriend (ahmadjinidad) is to start hitting iran on its own soil. With 130,000+ American troops in Iraq, aren't there some special ops guys that can inflict some pain in iran by (let's say) blowing up all of their domestic oil refineries? Something needs to be done to show the regular people in iran that their leadership is a bad thing and also that it is VULNERABLE. because this islamic fascist movement will never be slowed down (let alone stopped) as long as the puppetmasters in tehran are allowed to play "offense" without ever having to play "defense."

Maybe we can offer THEM a surprise on August 22nd!

I too thought there was a war on terrorism. I can't seem to find any anwers as to why, when the US lists hizbullah as a terrorist orgnanization, we would stop an ally from defeating or at least crippling them? Any bets as to how long it will take them to regroup and be fully armed again?

The islamosavages will clearly see this as a win for their side. Never mind that much of Southern Lebanon has been badly damaged and hundreds of Lebanese killed. The fact that the barbarians call that a "win" shows yet again their moral depravity.

Furthermore, the latest "truce" will be sold in the muslim world as the US and Israel "backing down." We simply cannot let them have that. I dearly hope that we are planning some sort of plan to inflict pain and damage on iranian soil. Because if we fail to do something like that, we will pay a huge price.

As I said, the world expects fireworks from iran on August 22nd. Let's hope those fireworks are directed AT iran instead of coming FROM iran.

Israel and the US have handed Hezbollah a great victory. I give Israel three US presidential election cycles, at the most, before it is extingished as a sovereign entity. And it will be some sniveling, groveling, vote-seeking, cowardly, unprincipled US President who will pound the nails into Israel's coffin.

Ok, Kofi got the cease fire that he has been moaning about for weeks now and the "peacekeeping" force will go in and do nothing. The first time they are shot at by Hezbollah they will be yanked out by Kofi who doesn't believe in self defense. This force will not disarm Hezbollah or do anything that would ensure a long term peace. Their mission is to stand around and hope nobody takes a shot at them because when that happens Kofi will raise the white flag of surrender and pull them out faster than you can say "Nigerian scammer". The whole thing was a ruse by Kofi to stop the destruction of Hezbollah. Israel was crushing these terrorist and Kofi did everything in his power to prevent that from happening. He is now sending in a "peacekeeping" force to ensure Hezbollah is safeguarded.
