“Hitler Was Catholic”

by Tammy on September 19, 2006 · 4 comments

Pope Islam-O-Rage continues and the smear of Catholics especially goes on. “Hitler was Catholic” was the pronouncement just one moment ago on CNN by an Islamic Talking Head and the anchor, the now famous open-mic-in-the-bathroom Kyra Phillips of CNN, did not correct him. This is as absurd as saying Hitler was Japanese–it requires correction.

The point of this freak saying Hitler was Catholic was in the context of religious fundamentalism and the Islamist insisting violence is spread by Christianity as well. This is one of the new emerging Islamist “Big Lies” attempting to distract people from the truth of the matter. The only source of worldwide religious violence today is ISLAM. It isn’t “religion” or “fundamentalism” otherwise yes, we’d be seeing violence and terrorism springing from every religion on the planet, and we don’t.

Many Germans are Catholic and that is why the Catholic Church was/is present in Germany, but Hitler was not Catholic, nor did his practice Christianity. And don’t speak to me of whatever religion may have been around him when he was a boy–most Germans had a Christian upbringing. It’s what Hitler became and practiced as a grown man–and it wasn’t Catholicism. Hitler-Worship was the order of the day and the Nazis themselves indulged in a Viking-like pagan worship, both publicly and privately.

Now some young people (and old, too, no doubt) are going to be wandering around today thinking that Hitler was a practicing Catholic. Lovely.

There is something we can do–contact CNN and demand Kyra Phillips, or whoever their anchor is, issue an on-air correction that Hitler was not Catholic, or even a practicing Christian.

Here is their Report Errors feedback form and their phone number is: 404-827-1500. You can then press “1″ for a News Tip which I believe will get you in the newsroom, or “2″ to get to a person to make a comment. They also give you the option to leave a message. I waited about 1 minute on hold after pressing “2″ and spoke with a live person.

If you do call, tell them Hitler was not Catholic, and whenever you call with comments, be respectful. This will be an employee you’re talking with. Also say you would like an on-air retraction of that comment by the anchor, because it was meant to give them impression that a) Hitler committed his violent crimes against humanity because he was Catholic and b) Christians are just as violent as Islamists, neither of which is true. They also asked who the anchor was, that’s Kyra Phillips and the comment happened around 11:45am PT (2:45pm ET).

For background and the facts of the matter (despite all sorts of absurd leftist commentary on the net insisting that Hitler was Catholic or Christian), please read a research essay in The Harvard Salient:

In Hitler’s Shadow: The Myth of Nazism’s Conservative Roots

The Nazi state was a highly centralized, technocratic, propagandistic, national machine. In addition to its systematic attack on the Jews, who comprised a long-standing, but abused, segment of the population, the Nazis opened a new Kulturkampf against the Catholic Church, jailing priests and deposing bishops; unlike 1874, however, Hitler also moved against the established Protestant denominations, persecuting such noble men as Dietrich Bonhoffer…

“The challenge to the totalitarian claims of the Nazi government by the churches found the support of people who had been willing to adjust themselves to the new regime…. Conservative elements, both Catholic and Protestant, were shocked by the Nazi attacks on the churches and the Christian religion…. There were a good many liberal intellectuals who…were now attracted by the church resistance.” These dissenters included Bishops Galen of Munster and Faulhaber of Munich (other bishops proved weaker) among Catholics, and Bonhoffer among Lutherans.

Ms. Bruce,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for bringing to light the outrageous comment that would be made like this Hitler. You “right on the mark” with the response about the CNN anchor who refused to correct this absurd and incorrect statement.

It is amazing how the media is willing to allow something like this to continue without “standing up” for a value. To allow this type of statement to go on without challenging it, is irresponsible to say the least.

Let us pretend that President Bush, Vice-President Cheney or Sec. of State Rice would of made a comment like that. The media (especially CNN) would spend countless hours in analyzing and debating how outrageous and “insensitive” the comment was. This is just another account how the far left media is ruining us as a nation.

To put it another way, look at the history of numerous serial killers and other criminals of either the local and national scale. I am sure that most of them had some sort of “religious” upbringing in their lives as well. However do we spend time condeming those religions because the act of some “sicko” who decided to commit such horrible crimes? NO…We don’t!

The end result is that the “left” wants us to give “weight” to the individuals who are committing terrorist acts and HIDING behind the religion Islam. However I never hear the Muslims stand up and condem those who are using their religion to carry out their acts in their name. Why is that?

Anyway, just a thought. I have listen to you for some time and I am greatful for the fact there is someone out there honest enough to speak their mind. I am with you all the way and I speak out when ever and however I can for the “right”.
I am an American and PROUD of it! I just wish the “left” and its media would be too.

Sincerely,
Mike Cochran

I appreciate your comments. I dislike the use of Hitler from both sides of the political spectrum. I’m Jewish, so trivializing Hitler is really obscene. I also detest the comparison between Nazis and religious conservatives, which is all-to-often done by many of MY people. I am currently reading The Death of Right and Wrong and next up is your newest book. You’re a wonderful writer. I, too, went through that narcissistic self-servicing phase. I turned to religion and conservatism over the last 12 years, so it’s refreshing reading folks like you and David Horowitz who left the Dark Side. I wish I knew more about your background, upbringing , etc. Perhaps not knowing your father also contributed to your early life, if not just the affair with Brenda Benet and her suicide. I saw the C-span interview and was spellbound by your discussion of this. Why don’t you discuss this further?

I can not believe what I am reading. Even if it is CNN that allowed this lie to go uncheck! I am not Catholic, I am Protestant, so I do not pretend to speak for Catholics..but I am outraged. Ms. Flushy Phillips should be disciplined immediately. My senior year of college I concentrated my studies (I received a BA in History) in WW II, I can assure you Hitler was an occultist if he was anything. This is disgusting, I am physically ill right now. Thank you Tammy. I would of never known that this took place if not for you. I am contacting CNN now.

Let’s not over react. Hitler was a catholic, at one time anyway. Stalin was also a catholic. Past tense. Nothing at all to do with what they became.
