Muslims Threaten the Pope

For daring to suggest that Muslims have been violent and threatening for centuries.

Muslim fury grows at Pope's speech

...The Pope's speech quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and an educated Persian on the truths of Christianity and Islam.

"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the Pope said.

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached'."

Benedict described the phrases on Islam as "brusque", while neither explicitly agreeing with nor repudiating them. [...]

But Britain's Ramadhan Foundation, a youth organisation based in Rochdale, reacted angrily to the comments, comparing the Pope unfavourably to his predecessor John Paul II. In a statement it said: "If the Pope wanted to attack Islam and Prophet Muhammad teachings he could have been brave enough to say it personally without quoting a 14th century Byzantine Christian emperor. [Brave enough? Who needs to be brave when speaking about such a peaceful and tolerant people?]

Pakistan's parliament condemned the "derogatory" remarks today and demanded an apology. The country's foreign ministry said they were "regrettable" and claimed they would encourage violence.

And thereby proving the pope's point.

As does an attack on a church in Gaza, and the "extreme reaction" promised by Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. Violence or promises of violence because someone sort of mentioned that, uh, someone in the 14th century noted that Muslims were "evil and inhuman." Hmmm. Perhaps now we can expect more murder of children and the slaughter of innocent people as Muslims rampage over such a suggestion. Oh, wait a minute, but doing all of that would be evil and inhuman.

Oops.

Thank God for Pope Benedict! (from a grateful Protestant) And thank God for Charles Martel, although he must be spinning in his grave today.

Again we see the "Religion of Peace" in action. History shows the often violently expansionist nature of Islam. I'm so disgusted with today's politically correct view of the Crusades. The Crusades were very much a defensive reaction in response to violent encroachments of Islam against Christian territories. Sure there were atrocities committed by Crusaders, but there were also atrocities and much oppression by Muslims back then too.

Its interesting to read a 1946 essay, which was once classified, by someone in the U.S. War Department. It shows how some threats of Islam that we see today were discernable back in '46....

And I'd like to add that the Byzantine Emperors knew something about Islam, having been threatened by Muslims from early on until the destruction of the Byzantine Empire.

While I wish I could render a savvy or crafty comment... I can't stop laughing at the post...

Actually, Aegil, you are quite correct. The crusades occurred before Mohammed, the Middle East was Christian. When the Muslim religion started, it began to spread, first peacefully and then aggressively. Once the Catholic Church in the West saw that the shrines and relics of Christianity were under threat of desecration, they began the crusades to push back the invading Muslims and to protect the shrines and relics. That is why most relics were transported and are in western European churches today. The Muslims began pushing into Europe and invaded Spain and resided there for five hundred years. But, they could go no further. They were pushed back at the border of France. Had the crusades not happened, all of Europe would have become Muslim and Christianity would probably not exist. Heaven forbid!

The only thing that stopped the expansion of the Muslims (Moors) was the battle of Tours, in France in 732 AD. It took a total defeat of their army, and subsequent counter attack to push them out of Europe. All these idiots understand is power and violence.

Somebody better get word real sweet quick to Pope Benedict that if he goes to Turkey somebody'll cut his head off. These people are gone down the road-over the hill-around the bend-never comin' back nuts.

It's interesting that the "Muslim leaders" are heard quite easily for the past few days about their anger regarding the Popes words. When terrorists attack you hear nothing; hmmm, is it because the media doesn't report it, or because they have nothing to say?

Good for the Pope! He drew the bloodthisty deathcultist Muslims out and now people should be able to see that Islam is a vicioius fraud of a religion founded by a mysogenistic, psychotic, pedophile.

A Muslim once tried to pursuade me to believe that because Mohammad was the "last" prophet (Islam recognizes the Old and the New Testament, including Jesus), Islam is the "last" religion in the Abrahamic trilogy (Old Testament, New Testament, Koran), and being the last, therefore, supersedes all that came before it. Since Mohammad's version is the most recent, it is the one everyone should follow. I countered his faulty logic with the proposition that should I divinely preach a little something on the matter of the Koran at that moment, wouldn't everyone be obliged to follow my teachings? Afterall, I'd be the last to speak on the matter.
I don't believe Christianity acknowledges Mohammad in any way (does it?), but the point the Pope makes should be discussed. What insight or refinement, what valuable addition did Mohammad bring to Christianity, to the Abrahamic religion? The Pope apparently believes Mohammad brought nothing good - putting into question Mohammad's legitimacy as a prophet.

It's worth noting that the Pope hasn't exactly been "our boy" (e.g., not necessarily helpful with Iraq or Israel). But presumably the Vatican understands the threat to its very existence, and isn't driven by the self-hating derangement of the extreme Left. Incidents such as this and the cartoon jihad ought to make the point ever-more obvious and undeniable that it's simply not possible for the West to exist without inadvertently giving offence to the Muslim street and thus "provoking" violence. I don't know how to deal with a billion rampaging people dispersed over the globe, but we need to understand that validating their rage and attempting to address their "grievances" is counterproductive.
