This was the first time after 9/11 when I laughed. This 9/26/01 piece is now a classic from the parody site The Onion. It is especially remarkable in that I have a feeling this is indeed exactly what every Islamist surprisingly finds himself.
Hijackers Surprised To Find Selves In Hell
JAHANNEM, OUTER DARKNESS—The hijackers who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon expressed confusion and surprise Monday to find themselves in the lowest plane of Na’ar, Islam’s Hell.
“I was promised I would spend eternity in Paradise, being fed honeyed cakes by 67 virgins in a tree-lined garden, if only I would fly the airplane into one of the Twin Towers,” said Mohammed Atta, one of the hijackers of American Airlines Flight 11, between attempts to vomit up the wasps, hornets, and live coals infesting his stomach. “But instead, I am fed the boiling feces of traitors by malicious, laughing Ifrit. Is this to be my reward for destroying the enemies of my faith?”

I put out my flag today. There’s a great article by Peggy Noonan in the Wall St. Journal about the sounds of 9-11entitled, “I Just Called To Say I Love Youâ€.

Sounds of not only the planes crashing or the towers falling, but the phone calls and messages left by those facing imminent death. What struck me was the difference between the mindset of the hijackers right before death and that of the innocent victims. The Americans thought of telling their spouses, children, parents, etc. that they loved them. In their final moments Americans selflessly outpoured their love to others, and the terrorists? They thought of 72 virgins.

Despite the fact that I disagree with many of your views, I have the utmost respect for you as an individualist and an open mind, having read a couple of your books previously. Regarding the piece you posted from “The Onion,” although it is funny, don’t you think your introduction was a bit distasteful, explaining,”I have a feeling this is indeed exactly what EVERY ISLAMIST surprisingly finds himself.” Meaning, don’t you believe we should be fair, and not undermine every Islamist with the presumption that they ALL believe in the idea of anti-Western extremist terrorism? Don’t you think that sometimes you tend to categorize Islam as something with too narrow of an ideology or–even more aptly–agenda?
[Let me see--you expect political correctness from Ms. Bruce? And perhaps there's a reason why she wrote "Islamist" and not "Muslim." Distasteful? Tammy Blog thinks this sort of complaint on the anniversary of Islamists murdering 3,000 people, is distasteful. As Ms. bruce would say, Sheesh.--ed.]
