The "You're Kidding!" Headline of the Day

USC Study: Celebrities Really Are More Narcissistic Than the General Public

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrities have more narcissistic personality traits than the general population, and people with narcissistic tendencies seem to be attracted to the entertainment industry rather than the industry creating narcissists, according to a groundbreaking study conducted by researchers Drew Pinsky of the Keck School of Medicine of USC and S. Mark Young of the USC Marshall School of Business and the USC Annenberg School for Communication.

The study, which will be published in the Journal of Research in Personality (Elsevier), is the first systematic, empirical scholarly study of celebrity personality and was based on a standardized test of narcissistic personality traits administered to 200 celebrities.

And this from my alma mater. This is like commissioning a study to determine whether or not the sky is blue. Some things you don't need a study or a report, they just are.

Now what would have been really cool is if we hospitalized the celebrities who were tested. You know, for their own safety. And ours. Think about it--a world where people like Streisand and Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon, and Alec Baldwin, Michael Moore and heck, even Jesse Jackson, tucked safely away in some 'resort' where microphones and cameras were nowhere to be seen. Or had. Or used. Now that would be a study!

Ahhhhhh.....is that a nice cool breeze I feel?

Careful with the suggestions about re-education camps or "resorts." I don't think the celebrities have that much credibility with the general public, I'm more concerned with the Dan Rather (and now Katie Couric) like narcissists in the media or the Hillary Clinton type in politics that use a facade of intellectual/professionalism.

If we're going to waste money on studies about narcissism these are a couple of professions that should be studied.

I think it is just a given that there will always be narcissists in the world. What we need is better education so we can identify them and weigh their comments accordingly.

[I didn't see any suggestion in Tammy's post about "re-education." It seems to me she was musing about leftist celebrities being away from the tools that give them access to us. It's probably even worse-them being themselves but without control of the culture or access to mass-communication. Crikey!--ed.]

Speaking of celebrities and narcissism - I have been looking for a reason to vote for Hillary (not!). I heard today that Janet Jackson (that great political mind and wardrobe expert)is backing her. That should get Hillary a few votes:-)

I know of a wonderful resort that I think is fitting for these folks.
Just to mention a few of the amenities: Clean cool ocean breezes, surrounded by lush wooded areas, four on-site recreation areas, private rooms or shared space, many opportunities for intimate relationships, all meals served in your quarters, excellent security, long or short term occupancy and shopping at the property run store. This place is called Pelican Bay and is located in Crescent City Ca.

By the way; This Drew Pinsky fella seems an odd person to be judging the narcissistic tendencies of others, or maybe he is speaking from personal knowledge. Check his celebrity status.
