Despite the revelation that it was Colin Powell's former deputy Richard Armitage who 'outed' Valerie Plame, she and her husband Joe Wilson have announced they're going ahead with their lawsuit against Vice President Cheney, Scooter Libby, Karl Rove for supposedly conspiring to out her. Despite the fact that it has now been confirmed they had nothing to do with it. Talk about desperation. But I suppose it shouldn't be surprising. For three years their version of reality was accepted hook line and sinker by the Establishment Media. For three years President Bush and others in the White House, working feverishly during a time of war, were distracted, smeared and hauled into deposition after deposition, events that threatened careers and futures. All because Joe and Val said so.

Surprise 'won't derail CIA suit'

Outed CIA operative Valerie Plame and her husband, Bush critic Joseph Wilson, plan to go ahead with a lawsuit against close associates of President George W Bush despite a startling new revelation about the source of the leak that blew Ms Plame's cover, one of her lawyers has said.

The new information "has no impact on the case. This case is about top-level White House officials who conspired against Valerie Wilson," Melanie Sloan, one of Wilson's lawyers, told the BBC, referring to Ms Plame by her married name.

And even the Wilson's know of Armitage's sentiments. Their lawyer assures us they're taking 'at face value' that Armitage's comments to Bob Novak, revealing Plame as CIA, was just "gossip." No hard feelings there. But they're still suing completely uninvolved individuals.

Someone should tell them there's no more blood in that stone, and most normal people think you should apologize to innocent people you've smeared, not continue to sue them.

All of this is only the tip of the iceberg. We also now know that Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald knew from Day One of his inquiry that the leaker was Armitage. That's right. And yet he proceeded with an investigation that was commissioned on that issue, and only that issue. Time to file a counter suit for defamation, libel, harassment etc.

With all the ink and paper that have been expended on this supposed outing, I'm disappointed that we haven't heard more about Wilson's actual report.

I'm surprised that anyone believes for a minute that we could send one man - particularly a caucasian, who would stand out like a sore thumb in Africa because of his skin color, like a toad's belly, as the fellow says in the old movie - to Niger and expect him to be able to find out what had been going on there. In my work in industry, if I want to buy raw materials I might make phone calls and send letters, leaving a trail of people who know what I am trying to buy. I can do that because I am in a legal business, so I have no reason to conceal my purchases except possibly from my competitors.

If I were head of a rogue state attempting to build atomic weapons, I would behave much differently. The mainstream news media seem to take the attitude that if Wilson could not bring home a document signed by Saddam Hussein requesting a price and delivery quotation for enriched uranium, then nothing happened. That is not what Wilson said; in fact, he did find some verbal comments that there had been some contact. Isn't this another case of the news media's "All the news that fits, we print" attitude?

For his fraud on the government, abuse of the taxpayer, and manufacturing of a charge against Libby, Fitzgerald should cbe disbarred.
