Amazon Absurdity

A diversion by Maynard

Gentlemen, are you looking for a very special Christmas holiday gift for a very special lady person? Well, for a mere $225,000.00, here's a lovely wristwatch.

I'm wondering if this is the most expensive item on Amazon.

Take a moment to check out the Customer Reviews. Products such as this seem to beacon in the clowns. Funny stuff!

I love the one about the watch being a perfect gift for "a blossoming drag queen"... way funny.

The best: "

I have a far better deal for you. For $200,000.00 I'll personally follow you around and tell you the time whenever you ask. I'm very accurate and never need winding. Put me on your yacht, take me skiing, or place me in your villa in the South of Spain. You'll never even know I'm there.

For an additional $75,000 I also do temperature and humidity. "

Really funny reviews! Thanks!

Between legal jobs, I sold Swiss watches. I never sold anything that pricey (my biggest sale that actually went through was $38,000, although I had a close bite at $110,000), but we had things in our vendors' catalogs that were more expensive WITHOUT DIAMONDS than that piece: extremely complicated hand-made pieces by Breguet, Blancpain, Patek Phillipe, Jaeger-LeCoultre. $225,000, if it had to be spent on a watch, my first thought is a Patek Limited Edition Ten-Day Tourbillon, in platinum.

Cartier is a jewelry brand, not anything particularly special: that absurd gaudy piece of bling contains a robot-made quartz movement that cost Cartier no more than $50. The watch I wear every day when I'm in court, a sales incentive gift from Baume & Mercier (lists for $3000, although mine was free), is more of a real watch than that. Yes, what can I say, life in the hell of high-end retail made me a total watch snob.

My watch cost about fifteen bucks at Wal-Mart, and it has been telling me the time for two years. Before that, I used a Casio that I found in my Dad's drawer after he checked out in '82. Why would anyone want a watch that costs more than a four bedroom house in the midwest? When would you dare to wear it?

225,000.00 bucks for one lovely watch ? Such folly ! If I had that wad of cash to blow I'd get myself 3 BMW 325i's and a fleet of Cannondales :)

Brutepcm: the girls who get that Cartier are going to get them from fathers, husbands and/or boyfriends for whom 200 grand is pocket change. Think either Texas, Hong Kong or Dubai.

C'mon guys...get with the program! I'm 52 years old and my youthful good looks are fading fast! Bling is all we have left after a certain age and what better way to spend one's hard earned money than on this little bobble? If you are concerned about the price...well you are just one of the regular rubes and they probably won't sell it to you anyway...oh yea...that's me too...damn!
