Microwave Your Baby? Get Five Years

In 2000, a woman who microwaved her baby to death was sentenced to five years in prison for the horrific act. That's it. That extraordinary news, however, is buried in another story of a woman who, back in August, allegedly did the same thing. In this age of the death of right and wrong, what do you think she'll get? How about picking up trash on the side of the freeway.

If this were the United States of Tammy, I would have killers executed in the same manner in which they killed their victim(s). And yes, I'd have us spend the money to construct a microwave big enough to contain this freak.

Police say mother microwaved her baby

DAYTON, Ohio - The investigation into the death of a baby who authorities believe was heated in a microwave oven was difficult because of a lack of research on the effect of microwaves on people, a coroner's official said...

Arnold's lawyer, Jon Paul Rion, said she had nothing to do with her daughter's death. She was stunned when investigators told her that a microwave might have been involved, he said. "China — as a mother and a person — was horrified that such an act could occur," Rion said.

Horrified. Just horrified, I'm sure.

Oh, and here's the one-sentence mention in the same story about the case in 2000, which means that murderer is already out walking the streets. Perhaps now looking for a convection oven?

In 2000, a Virginia woman was sentenced to five years in prison for killing her month-old son in a microwave oven.

Five years. I did so much research for DRW in 2003. I thought I found the most stunning examples of deadly nihilism in this country, and yet this was so buried, so not news, I missed it. What, possibly, could be the extenuating circumstances allowing such a non-punishment for such a horrific crime? Honestly, what are we becoming?

The result of the Ohio case will tell us if things have gotten better or worse when it comes to justice and women who murder their children. I'll keep an eye on it for us.

As usual Tammy, we agree on punishment...but my idea is public hanging...once a month, or possibly once a week if needed depending on the crime...people would be surprised on how quickly society would turn around...

You know, this is terrible, but in a lot of ways, it's just the logical extension of the thoughts behind abortion. The platform of abortion is that a mother has the right to kill her child because it is inconvenient to her. This is pretty much the same thing. The baby is inconvenient...so kill it. It's not a new idea. And as long as we live in a culture where convenience trumps life...it's not something that'll go away. The only thing that makes this more horrific than partial birth abortion, or a mother wrapping her baby in plastic and throwing it away...is the means.

Yeah, Tammy, this has to be one of the most horrible, the most numbing stories ever; and where else but the good ole U.S.A.?
I personally wonder just what has happened to us as a society, where something like this could even be thought-of, much less, happen.
Since 9/11, have we lost our minds? Everything we Americans do, is wrong, seems wrong, is ejudicated as wrong. We cannot profile. We cannot pray in schools. We cannot seem to stop security leaks from within the White House to the N.Y. Times.
But the babies... From the horrific tragedy of Susan Smith to the Houston mother who drowned those five boys, my God, who are we now, and why do we suddenly epitimize the most vile movies Hollywood can imagine, now?

I would have killers executed in the same manner in which they killed their victim(s). Tammy, it's getting scary as I realize how much we think alike. I've made that suggestion to all who would listen for years. Expanding on MARIE's plan: fire-up the TV cameras, let victims' families give brief remarks, then implement Queen Tammy's idea -- all LIVE. You're right, Marie -- it should be a hell of a deterrent.

How about 4 years for setting your nephew on fire?

Excellent comments from all. But I don't think it's what we are becoming but what we have become. We're there. Pope John Paul II could not have been more accurate when he said we are a culture of death. Tammy's post proves that and with cases like Andrea Yates where you can murder your entire family and escape justice and Wolvenbear's comments on partial birth abortion, a procedure so sickening that we kill babies as they are being delivered and call it choice that nothing can shock this society that we live in.

What a sad sick shame but even more so is that it can get worse. It would not surprise nor shock me if in the not to distant future a woman is given a year after the birth of her child to decide if she wants to keep it or not and if it's too much for her to handle just wrap it up in a hefty bag and toss it in the trash. This sounds so heartless but can it be far off from what madness is taking place today ?
