NYT Confirms: Saddam Had Advanced Nuclear Plans

So much for the "Iraq wasn't a threat to anyone and had no WMD plans" bleat that spews from leftists day in and day out.

Ironically, the NYT runs this story as a supposed November Surprise slam against President Bush, because, like all the Dems and their leftist water-carriers, they're all still fighting the 2004 election. It's called Loser Derangement Syndrome. Their desperation, however, seems to have blinded them to the real headline of this story. Their spin is that the Bush Administration put everyone at risk by posting on the net documents that revealed the details of advanced nuclear capabilities of Iraq. Hogwash. Saddam had bomb plans, and now we kow Iran has always had bomb plans. Both were reliant, as was every rogue nation, on the Pakistan Khan blackmarket network.

The real story is the revelation that Saddam had everything he needed for a bomb, except for the fissile material which was his for the asking via any number of rogue nations, had sanctions been lifted.

This blog will never link to that leftist mouthpiece the NYT, but here, in part, is what the NYT is reporting:

The documents, roughly a dozen in number, contain charts, diagrams, equations and lengthy narratives about bomb building that nuclear experts who have viewed them say go beyond what is available on the Internet and in other public forums. For instance, the papers give detailed information on how to build nuclear firing circuits and triggering explosives, as well as the radioactive cores of atom bombs.

Captain Ed at Captain's Quarters has the best analysis of the situation. In part he notes:

This is apparently the Times' November surprise, but it's a surprising one indeed. The Times has just authenticated the entire collection of memos, some of which give very detailed accounts of Iraqi ties to terrorist organizations. Just this past Monday, I posted a memo which showed that the Saddam regime actively coordinated with Palestinian terrorists in the PFLP as well as Hamas and Islamic Jihad. On September 20th, I reposted a translation of an IIS memo written four days after 9/11 that worried the US would discover Iraq's ties to Osama bin Laden.

Pajamas Media
has a roundup up blog reaction, with Michelle Malkin reminding us of the absurdity of the NYT, the Newspaper of Security Leaks, "suddenly worried about dangerous disclosures."

And via LGF, Ray Robison reminds us of the history of the Saddam papers, and who knew what when.

With all of this excellent reporting, it is now obvious what we have here: a NYT with its own November Surprise that should have actually been hyped by the Bush Administration.

With both Kerrygate and now this confirmation of how advanced Saddam was with his nuke weapons program, why is it we either are exposed to a situation by accident (Kerry) or as an unintended consequence of an attempted leftist smear?

Kerry, as an example. The general assessment now is that Republicans have been energized because of his slander of the troops. Conservatives, it is true, were reminded of the Dems untenable attitude about the military and our troops, primarily because the Dem Elite do think America is the problem. Kerry has made a career for decades bashing the troops and casting America as a scourge, via that slander of raping-murdering-terrorizing military representatives.

My question is, why did it take a Kerry statement to remind us? Why weren't the Republicans reminding Americans, day after day, of the nature of today's Dems?

The same question suits the NYT "revelations" of Saddam's nuke program. The UN and the Bush Admin had these same documents for years and yet the importance and significance of this is only brought home because of a botched NYT hit job.

We did ultimately get educated with both Kerrygate and this Saddam nuke docs, and does indicate one more time that God, while he has other things to do, does notice when the good guys drop the ball, and is willing to be a pinch hitter when necessary.

It does concern me, though, that God must be giving us all the head-shake as he has to work to make sure we get the info we need to do the right thing with our Free Will.

Well put. May God continue to bless the USA!

I love it when lefties make an argument that actually ends up blowing back into their faces.

I always thought I missed something with the whole WMD thing in Iraq. Pardon me, but how the hell could anyone have considered that he didn't have WMD, when in fact we all know he had used them to murder 20,000 Kurds. 300,000 dead innocent Iraqi people, buried in mass graves. The worst case of genocide I know of, certainly right there with Darfur, Rwanda, Turkey, etc.

And what of the weapons inspectors? Had they been granted unfettered access, we may never have invaded Iraq to begin with. Remember, Putin indicated his own intelligence sources said he had WMD, as did Sadaam's top Air Force general. What a shock...NOT!

Yea, but Hans Brix sent him really really angry letters and then told us all he didn't have any...

The selective blindness and naked contradiction of the Left is INFREAKINGFURIATING....

WHEN WILL BIG PHARMA DEVELOP A VACCINE...for US , so we can understand their flawed logic and delusional thinking?

Oh, yeah... KOOL-AID,...riiiight....

You good people took the words right out of my mouth. Saddam did not do his ethnic cleansing with a can of Lysol. Back when Hans Blix would give ample warning he was coming in to hunt for the W of MD, that gave Saddam plenty of time to move them around and across the border into Syria and Saudi Arabia away from the keen eye of Blix and his (in)credible U.N. forces.

I saw the movie "Fat Man and Little Boy" in 1989 and it had enough information in it for any physicist, including a Muslim physicist, to make a crude nuclear weapon. It was not a miracle that Oppenheimer, et al, developed the atomic bomb or later developed the hydrogen bomb. It was simply applying existing scientific knowledge to the problem. The information is already out there and anyone who is determined enough (and has a lot of money)can re-invent the "bomb" at at any time. Be afraid! Be very afraid!
Enlightened people in government know that Pandora's Box has already been opened, so publishing Sadam's bomb plans is a non-issue.

For everyone's disgust with today's Dems, they continue to run strong in a number of polls and are expected to win 1 or both houses of Congress. How important that really is is debatable to me, as Congress has become essentially a do-nothing PR machine. However in spite of that, I would feel like s*it if I actually pulled the lever for any national Dems and can never support their irresponsibility to the American citizens. For in spite of all the Iraq anger, what the left really doesn't express is exactly what they would do about Iraq if they had power and support over what they had today (other than surrender and pull out).

My district will stay GOP and I have a lot of issues with the GOP that many blogs have documented over the past 2 years. But with all their faults, the GOP still is by far the lesser of two evils, but it is amazing that so many people are so angry about Iraq when they should have known all along that the jury was still out on the WMD question. I am fed up with American domestic politics, the ugliness, the disrespect, the spewing of vile in public, the anger, the self-righteousness, the sanctimony and all the rest. I have been quite refreshed to withdraw from it all, only to be annoyed by the incessant political ads on TV.

Nice job Tammy!!!

It's time the public demands a bi partisan committee to really look at these documents and report back to us on what those documents reveal about Saddam's terror link (see www.regimeofterror.com) and WMD aspirations (see www.iraqdocs.blogspot.com).

We all know we are in Iraq but what if we prevented more terror attacks and prevented WMD proliferation and the public is ignorant of all this??? Don't they deserve to know?
