Helen Mirren (no complaints here)

England has decided. After a 1,000 person poll. At a shopping center. But I think they got things generally right.

One Sexy Dame

Times are changing, my folks. You no longer have to be a 20 year old to be deemed sexy by the public…

At 61, Dame Helen Mirren has been named the world’s sexiest older woman…

1. Dame Helen Mirren.
2. Goldie Hawn.
3. Charlotte Rampling.
4. Susan Sarandon.
5. Honor Blackman.
6. Joanna Lumley.
7. Vanessa Redgrave.
8. Lauren Hutton.
9. Sophia Loren.
10. Debbie Harry

Debbie Harry

Wow. Debbie Harry is over 60. How did that happen? And while she doesn’t look like she’s been hit by a car or anything, how did she make the list when Jacqueline Bisset didn’t? That’s just weird. Are the people who shop at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex all on crack, or were they just waiting in line at the Lenscrafters?

Oh Tammy dear – I have to stick up for The Debbie on this one!

To start off, I do have some bias being a Blondie fan for nearly 30 years (geez, that is just not right). But in spite of being a die-hard who has seen the band perform numerous times, I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Ms. Harry at length over the years.

As beautiful as she has always appeared in photos or on tv, she is absolutely stunning face to face. When I first met her 10 years ago, I truly felt her photos did not do her justice. To top it off, she’s very intelligent, calm, sweet and takes more interest in other people than talking about herself.

I certainly agree Jacqueline Bisset should be on the list —- but Debbie stays!

Yes, excellent point ArtGal. I have to admit, I think a meow excaped my lips on that one. I also know from personal experience how some photos can be good, and some bad. And, unlike you, have never had the opportunity to meet Debbie Harry, so your opinion will prevail and I officially retract my catty harumph about her being on the list. How about Goldie hawn? Can we put Bisset there? Hawn is cute, but beautiful?

And when did everyone get past 60 anyway? Last time I checked, Goldie was in those knee-high boots doing some go-go dance on a podium. Oops, that was some other chick at another CIA torture session I witnessed in West Hollywood this weekend. My bad.

I certainly agree that Debbie Harry is an interesting choice. I was never a Blondie fan, but I quite enjoyed her in “Videodrome,” which explored perception altering the physical world some 15 years before “The Matrix.” I think she and James Woods make an excellent “edgy couple,” in much the same sense that Mr. Woods and Sean Young did in “The Boost.”

But I’m especially heartened to see Charlotte Rampling in the number three slot. If you didn’t see “Spy Game,” go rent it now, just for the scene in which Ms. Rampling’s character chides Mr. Redford’s character about the young blonde on his arm, effortlessly being about three times sexier–a testament to both Ms. Rampling and Tony Scott’s direction.

What I Don’t understand is how in the hell did Joanna Lumley make the list. The woman looks like a burned out old drag queen. Sure she was great on Absolutely Fabulous but come on she’s not a babe by any stretch of the imagination. Beside I don’t think English women in general age that well anyway.

I’ve always thought Debbie Harry was beautiful.

But can we all agree on bug-eyed Susan Saradon? I can’t figure out how she got on the list, much less at #4. She’s sexier than Sophia Loren?! Those Brits have strange taste in women…I guess Prince Charles proved that one.

Hey Tammy – Agreed! I was also wondering how Goldie Hawn got to the second slot. Love her movies and yes, she’s cute, but not for this list. Jacqueline should reign supreme over Goldie.

You may have well been reminded of Goldie in knee-high boots while witnessing all that sweet torture at the W. Hollywood CIA sessions this weekend. After all, she did don the boots on ‘Laugh In’ during the sixties.

So there – it’s settled. Both The Jacqueline and The Debbie are the cat’s meow.

Charlotte Rampling belongs in the number one slot, and Sarandon should be dropped from the list.

Call me crazy, but I still think that Lauren Bacall is still sexy at 80+. How did these people get so old? Is this really happening Am I getting old too?

Helen Mirren is a total hottie. I just can’t grasp her confused politics. She is anti-monarchy, but she didn’t turn down the peerage title “Dame” and uses it in her name.

Most beautiful women of all time:
1. Tipi Hedrin
2. Jacqueline Bisset
3. Blythe Danner
4. Inger Stevens
5. Rita Hayworth
6. Grace Kelly
7. Nancy Kwan
8. Leslie Carron

Hey cinderellaman, excellent list. Inger Stevens a great choice. She was lovely. Here’s her Wiki entry for those unfamiliar. terrible, though, her suicide.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inger_Stevens
She did a great twilight zone, and dated Burt Reynolds briefly. Classivly beauiful woman. Tippi, I’m not so sure, Bisset, you know how I feel.

Now the difference, of course between your list and the actual list, not all of your women are still here, bt I do think an “of all time” list would indeed be quite different.

How about Julie Andrews ? She’s one of my favorites and has truly aged gracefully, a natural beauty and still gorgeous at 71.

I’ve had THE biggest crush on Mirren ever since I saw her in Losing Chase

HAAA!!!!…..naugh-ty, naugh-ty! ….LOL

Hey Tammy, thanks so much for the link to Wikipedia. Yeah, Inger Stevens was incredibly beautiful.
Thinking some of the selections I posted might have been strange to some, eg. Blythe Danner, but I think I fell in love with her in an early movie she did called “Lovin’Molly”. Some might find her a little ordinary, but here again, strength of character adds so much to her aura. Leslie Caron? Heck, I was just a kid when I first saw her in “Gigi”.
Thought of two more… Maureen O’Hara and Jean Simmons.

(Decided that it’s better late than never when it comes to posting a cool blog such as this one — had just found that the public library actually allows web-surfers to visit Tammy Bruce’s website.)

Noticing that all the women on the list are either very beautiful or clearly more gorgeous than average. Especially liking that Sophia Loren is included on the list — she’s probably the most beautiful woman in the world for her age bracket. Yet, there’s some name am personally wishing had also appeared on the list:

Has anyone considered Linda Hamilton to the list of beautiful, sexy older women? True, she’s not the most famous actress in the world, but if you look at her life –

– (1) that she played both “Sarah Connor” in the first two Terminator movies, and she has starred in a lot of other things (including a cult-following TV series), and at last –

– (2) she went into semi-retirement so that she can better look after her kids. Linda Hamilton is a far cry from what a lot of “radical feminist” “experts” have been telling women what a “good life” should be for a woman. They should consider including her on their list.
