Horrible news. This was the one man who had such a level of integrity it not only could survive the pit of the UN, it actually could have forced it into changing. He was the one daily reminder to those freaks that decency and integrity do exist.
Bolton Withdraws From UN Nomination Amid Opposition
Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) — John Bolton will step down this month as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, conceding that his nomination to continue in the post was unlikely to overcome Democratic opposition in the Senate.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, on a conference call with reporters, said President George W. Bush “reluctantly accepted” Bolton’s decision to withdraw his name from consideration. Bush will appear later today with Bolton at the White House, she said…
Bush drew fire from Capitol Hill by asking Congress to reconsider Bolton’s nomination immediately after Republicans were defeated in the midterm elections on Nov. 7.
“To confirm Mr. Bolton to the position of UN ambassador would fly in the face of the clear consensus of the country that a new direction is called for” on foreign policy, Senator Lincoln Chafee, a Rhode Island Republican, said two days after losing to a Democrat in the election.
Bolton couldn’t win the support of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee without Chafee’s vote, and Republican leaders signaled Bolton didn’t have enough support to get his nomination to the whole Senate for a vote.
Make no mistake–this is not a casualty of the new Dem majority, the loss of Bolton is due to the incompetence and cowardice of the previous Republican majority. And they wonder why they got fired.
The president will be meeting/”appear” with Bolton at the White House later today. How pathetic of President Bush that he did not command enough respect from his own majority to win this appointment. After all, what good is having the majority if you ask nothing of them, and then when you do, they balk?
I’m thrilled Republicanism is dead. Now let us usher in a new day is renewed Authentic Conservatism, a return of Reaganism.
In the meantime, UN Food-for-Sex crimes continue, as that entity, which resented Bolton’s attempts to impose some sort of discipline on the organization, continues to be the official International Child Rapists of the World.

Just another reason for us to quit that organization, recover that land and turn it into something useful like condo’s.
Sorry to say that conservative and Republican are not longer synonymous, at least when it comes to the majority of Republican congressmen. The spineless Republican controlled Senate refusing to force a vote on John Bolton is proof positive of how out of touch Republican “leadership” is. I’ve been listening to your program today on talkradio network.com today about you proposed presidential candidates, how about Gingrich/Steele ‘08?
[Or, Ms. Bruce just mentioned on Tammy Radio, how about Gingrich/Bolton '08?--ed.]
Just, damn!
Even if L. Chafee had not opposed Bolton’s nomination the Democrates would have blocked the nomination with a filibuster if necessary. The UN will never be reformed because it is made up of corrupt governments who are more than willing to turn a blind eye to any activity for the right price. It’s like the La Cosa Nostra, it operates on the flow of money underneath the table. People like Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are more than willing to turn a blind eye to the corruption so they can get stuff like the Nobel Peace Prize and other payoffs. The Democratic Congress will support a foreign policy that is more in line with the UN agenda and dictates. The Democrats believe in a more internationalist foreign policy that requires UN approval before we do anything (which means we will not take any action that is in our national interest).
The Republican Party is not purely a conservative party and never has been. Barry Goldwater attempted to hyjack the party in 1964 and was soundly repudiated by the American people. The Republican Party has always been a coalition of diverse views from northeast liberals to southern conservatives. Reagan was able to put together a national majority coalition of Republicans and moderate to conservative Democrats and Independants that was shattered when Bush I raised taxes. I don’t see anyone within the Republican Party who can put the Reagan coaliton back together again. The liberal Democrats may be able to put it back together if they raise taxes in 2008/2009.
I don’t get to listen to your radio show so I don’t know exactly what you mean by “authentic conservativism” but you equate it with Reaganism. Some of the things Reagan was in favor of included: tax cuts for all income levels, SDI, a 600 ship Navy, anti-abortion agenda, short range nuclear missiles in Europe (which would probably equate with short range nuclear missiles in the Middle East), and amnesty for illegals (yes amnesty and secure borders), and a reduction in the size of government and regulations. One of the most important things that I appreciated about Reagan was his no litmus tests policy when it came to appointments to the Federal Bench, that is why he was able to appoint people like Sandra Day O’Connor. This is in sharp contrast to the Democrats who want to clone the Federal Bench to fit the Democratic Platform.
That Bolton was not confirmed in Mar 05 is testimony to the stupidity of Dr. Frist. That he was never confirmed is because of the at best tepid support given him by Bush.
The liberals (Not all of whom were/are Dems) bamboozled the moron Senate Majority “leader” 4 times (Mar, Apr, May and June) in 05. Every time Frist fell for their trick; or is Frist really a liberal liar who pretends to be conservative? In any case I stated last year I would never vote for Frist for any office. That Bush did not make Frist bring Bolton to the floor shows that his support was all talk. Bush has no guts and Frist has no brains. Two prime reasons the GOP got crushed in last month’s elections! It is why the 21 new conservatives that will be joining Congress next year will all be Democrats. THe GOP has been moving leftward the last 6 years; and is now much more liberal than the Dems. And Americans are not fooled any more by “Read my lips!…….” lies. Actions speak louder than words. Bolton is a great case in point!
I fear that “Republicanism” is NOT dead with Trent Lott and the other old guard firmly in charge! Bolton deserves better than this administration! Bush is what we thought he was…a liberal Republican…no surprise there!
Hey Tammy,
I’m with you on this… a very bad turn of events, and this ought to be a real wake up call for the Republican party.
Not to worry, Kofi Anan will save the world. Who he saves it for is the real question- it sure ain’t the good old US of A.
One other things regarding the lack of Repub Senate inaction: I never heard Bill Frist, or any other Republican bring up the fact that the filibuster is reserved for legislation, not appointments. Filibustering Bolton’s confirmatin would have been obstructionist and unconstitutional. But as I said before, pointing that out would require leadership.
This is terrible news for the country. But probably only 15% of the country know who Bolton is and only 5% probably know how courageous and correct he is. They’re too busy “living their lives” to pay attention. No political downside to this for the Dems.
I would write more, but have to watch an episode of “Survivor” that is tivoed. I’m busy “living my life.”
I think there is some truth in all these comments. President Bush is definitely not a conservative on issues like spending and border control but he is very much a social conservative,as are many of the Republicans in the Congress, and I would hope that some remnant of the Reagan conservatives will take the party back to it’s conservative roots. That is why I refuse to write off the Republican party. I suspect that Tammy remains a Democrat for much the same reason, namely, seeing her party regain it’s former glory. President Bush has let me down more than a few times but I will always hold him in high regard for having the guts to do what his predecessors KNEW had to be done(topple Saddam),but were unwilling to face the consequences(domestic and foreign backlash, possible muslim retribution, huge spending bills, chaos etc). I remember during the Clinton administration, when the president ordered a missle strike on Afghanistan, the Taliban would often say that the Americans were brave dropping bombs from the air but they did not have the guts to fight on the ground. After 9/11 Bush sent our military in and the Taliban soon were eating those words. As for John Bolton,I am very disappointed. The president should have pushed harder for Bolton’s confirmation, but I suspect that after November’s defeat, many Republicans had probably lost the will to fight. And I think we will see much of the same for the next two years. But sadly, politicians will be politicians, and the disconnect between them and us will continue no matter who is in power.
