Dems and MSM Panic Over Johnson Illness

While we all send our prayers to Senator Tim Johnson as he recovers from brain surgery, I couldn't help but notice the absolute panic displayed by the Establishment Media about the potential repercussions.

My favorite headline is from MSNBC. It doesn't focus on the senator. Instead, it reveals the ugly underbelly of the EM as a whole. Here, a man lies in the hospital after having endured brain surgery, and what does MSNBC lead with?

What if Republicans keep the Senate?

The illness of Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., highlights the fragile hold Democrats have on power in the Senate, raising the prospect that several of their most cherished goals could be out of reach barely a month after party leaders thought they were within grasp.

But don't worry, MSNBC immediately gets down to business to explain how even an incapacitated man could hold onto his seat:

Johnson could stay in office as long as he remains alive, even if he were incapacitated. But if he were to die or to resign, South Dakota state law gives Gov. Michael Rounds, a Republican, the authority to appoint a replacement for the rest of Johnson’s term, which ends in January 2009.

MSNBC also answers it's own question about what would happen should the Repubs stay in the majority--the sky would fall, cats and dogs would starts sleeping together, and then the evil Repubs wouldn't even let the cats and dogs who love each other get married. Oh, and did I mention that if Repubs take back the senate 10,000 kittens will be die? That's right.

That would mean a complete reversal of Democratic plans to take power. Instead of Harry Reid of Nevada, Mitch McConnell, a conservative from Kentucky known for his effective partisan infighting, would become majority leader, and Republicans would remain chairmen of all committees. Such a scenario could effectively quash Democratic hopes of taking on the Bush administration on a variety of fronts...Most broadly, a Republican Senate could insulate President Bush from any number of potentially embarrassing dilemmas.

Oh no! All those investigations, all the hearings, all that bashing of the president in wartime, not possible! Let me get my hanky.

Unlike the parasitic Dem leadership, I will be praying for Senator Johnson for the right reasons, regardless of what he is, or is not, going to do for me. In the meantime, I'm sure the moonbats at MSNBC are busy sending DVDs of "Weekend at Bernie's" over to George Soros and Howard Dean right now.

Bottom feeders.

Oh, and a note to Republicans: don't get too excited. With a president who thinks nominating Harriet Miers for the US Supreme Court was a good idea, and a Repub majority in the Senate which wouldn't even confirm John Bolton, it doesn't really matter who is in control. They're all the same at this stage.

Here's wishing the Senator a speedy recovery! We conservatives don't wish gaining control of the Senate via any means necessary...especially something like this...good grief!

I hope Senator Johnson recovers to serve his term. The Senate will probably be mired in gridlock whether it's 50-50, 50-49 or 51-49. Gridlock is good. The worst news I've seen is that Hoyer is going to make them work 5 days a week in the House instead of 3. That means 40% more work which probably means 40% more hideous legislation. Anybody think we don't have enough laws?

Prayers and well wishes to the Senator and his family.

With respect to the media's coverage of the story, no need to tell us that Senators who are incapacitated can remain in office. How long has it been for Senator Byrd?

Great context Tammy and agree with you fully on wishing Sen. Johnson well.

This is case study as to exactly what is wrong in today's American politics. The lack of compassion is disgusting. And you are correct, this issue is being way overplayed by the MSM. And it continues to remind me why I along with many other Americans have withdrawn our active participation from the domestic political scene. This type of crap makes me sick along with the media's anti-American agenda, I will not support their businesses or products. I don't need to tune in and be downed listening to how the world is falling in with President Bush.

Regarding the 5-day work week referenced in LIB85 comment.

"Next year, members of the House will be expected in the Capitol for votes each week by 6:30 p.m. Monday and will finish their business about 2 p.m. Friday, Hoyer said." [Washington Post Dec. 6]

Not like other people's 5-day work week. Still too much time to cause trouble for the American people though.

I too was horrified how the headline was not about his condition and prognosis, but how this could mean dems would 'lose control'of the senate...pathetic...I also loved Reid's comment after visitng Johnson in ICU was that 'he looks fine to me!' ya know darn good and well if, God forbid, something unforeseen was to happen to him the dems would have him stuffed and proped up in his seat...

I only hope for a full and quick recovery for Senator Johnson...and I also hope that our country can make a full recovery too...

I hope the Democrats remember what they said about Terry Shiavo when it comes to Senator Tim Johnson. If he goes into a vegatative state I expect the Democrats to withhold food and water to the man. Most in the Democratic Party were eager to kill Terry S. so if the good Senator goes mushy in the head I expect him to be starved.

SteveOK,

In my view, your last post was a very tasteless and classless analogy, OK. That is terrible to be doing comparisons like that when we are talking people's lives.

Posted by: WK [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 15, 2006 11:37 AM

I thought it was pretty "tasteless" for them to kill Terry also.

Posted by: SteveOk [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 15, 2006 12:48 PM

That may be, but I might suggest keeping on subject. No one is talking about Terri Schaivo in this thread but you.
