The French Surrender Planet Earth To Whomever

chirac.jpg

French President Jack Chirac

Now search for second planet "like Earth" to inhabit and screw up.

Planet-hunter searches for second Earth

The hunt for a second Earth began in earnest yesterday with the launch of a space probe that will peer beyond the solar system to distant planets warmed by the faintest of stars.

The mission, which will take place over a two-and-a-half-year period, will look for rocky worlds about twice the size of Earth that lie in what space scientists call habitable zones, the Goldilocks regions of space in every solar system where heat from the nearest star is neither too hot nor too cold to sustain liquid water - believed to be the essential ingredient for life.

Corot, a 4m-long probe built by the French space agency, CNES, with help from British and other European scientists, [uh, d'oh--ed.] will use its 27cm-diameter telescope to gaze at 120,000 stars from an orbit more than 500 miles above Earth. It will look for minuscule changes in the brightness of the stars caused by orbiting planets passing in front of them.

I guess they decided finding a second Earth would be easier than figuring out how to stop all those cars, buses and people from catching on fire. Just like surrendering to Hitler, was, well, easier than not surrendering to Hitler. And just like sending French Jews off to Hitler's death camps was easier than, er, not sending them.

Only the French could be so gullible as to not realize that moons that are precisely the right distance from the planets they are looking for are essential for the development of the life they are looking for. In short they should be looking for binary planets similar to the earth/moon system.

My, my, we were a bit snippy last night, eh? But a good "call", Tammy.

Given that no scientist on earth expects to find a new planet closer than a trip of millions of years, and given that the French are involved here, dont you get the feeling their must be some socialist based "greater good" foolishness prompting this effort and expense?

Im almost embarrassed everytime i hear the word French..it prompts nothing but a head shake and a frown. Great jokes tho..ad in newspaper.."Classic French rifle, never fired. Only dropped once."

I, for one, welcome our new giant ant overlords. ;-)
