I just saw an interesting, informal documentary made by a comedian on a USO tour of Iraq. This is Patriot Act: A Jeffrey Ross Home Movie, and it describes the experiences of a group of comedians, including Drew Carey. It can be found at all the usual sources, or check showtimes on Showtime.

Meanwhile, on enemy turf closer to the home front, Stanford University had scheduled a screening of the popular Turkish film, “Kurtlar Vadisi: Irak” (“Valley of the Wolves: Iraq”). This fictional war tale was described on Stanford’s Continuing Education department website as “The Action Movie You Were Not Meant to See …An elite Turkish commando squad infiltrates the Kurdish region of US-occupied Iraq. What they find is too shocking to contemplate: Their supposed American allies engaged in murder, extortion, organ dealing, and more. Not in our name indeed.” The cast of characters includes a homicidal American colonel and a Jewish doctor who sells Muslim prisoners’ organs to the West. It seems that the rabid anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism was a bit much, in spite of the glorious anti-war message and multicultural attributes. Stanford has regretfully “postponed” the screening.
