Animal Activists: To Save the Bear We Need to Kill It

In a situation that makes all animal rights advocates look bad, and in one of the most Orwellian examples of so-called "animal rights" hypocrisy, German activists are demanding that a baby polar bear is better off dead than being raised by humans.

Tiny, fluffy and adorable, Knut the baby polar bear became an animal superstar after he was abandoned by his mother.

He rapidly became the symbol of Berlin Zoo, whose staff bottle-fed him and handed out cuddles in between. At three months old, however, the playful 19lb bundle of fur is at the centre of an impassioned debate over whether he should live or die.

Animal rights activists argue that he should be given a lethal injection rather than brought up suffering the humiliation of being treated as a domestic pet. "The zoo must kill the bear," said spokesman Frank Albrecht. "Feeding by hand is not species-appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws."

That's right--they want the bear killed to honor animal protection laws. But Berlin Zoo offcials haven't given in (at least not yet):

They argue that current treatment of the cub is inhumane and could cause him future difficulties interacting with fellow polar bears. "They cannot domesticate a wild animal," added Ruediger Schmiedel, head of the Foundation for Bears.

The charity cites a similar case of a baby sloth which was put to sleep after being abandoned by its mother last December in the Leipzig city zoo.

But Berlin Zoo holds different opinions. Its chief vet Andre Schuele says the activists' criticisms would make him angry if he could take them seriously. "Polar bears live alone in the wild. I see no logical reason why this bear should be killed."

It does indeed look like the zoo will stand by little Knut. To allow malevolent MalNars to succeed in killing him because of their own hatred for humanity would be the ultimate absurd tragedy.

Nothing else needs to be added! The outlandish animal activists have fully demonstrated their devotion to a political cause, rather than to Knut, or to any specie. Frank Albrecht is the one who needs immediate euthansia, IMHO.
This ought to shame all animal activists. Little Knut will live a life of luxury, thanks to the Berlin Zoo.

This horrible behavior isn’t limited to humans. We often read stories about momma cat or dog or pig adopting a litter of another species. It’s called kindness and the mothering instinct you freaks.

How typically leftist, orphaned animals need to be stolen from their adopters and be murdered so that we can all appreciate nature and understand who wicked and destructive humans are, but vicious murderers, rapists, and child killers should be nurtured and rehabilitated so the can do some more butchering.

If this isn't the Brave New World, what is?

Anyone who would want to kill something so beautiful is not his right mind. They are the ones that should be exterminated since they are obviously having problems interacting with their fellow human beings.

As hard as this may be to believe, I once got into a massive arguement with an animal rights activist who told me that no one has the right to "own" pets and that by having cats as pets I was a despicable human being.

I have given three cats that would otherwise be out in the wild or in shelters a wonderful home, and the love is reciprocal. My sweet babies are everything to me. For someone to say that to me - and be serious about it - let's just say they are lucky they still have teeth in their idiot head.

This demonstrates the dangers of European socialist authoritarianism. They wouldn't dare perpetrate such an atrocity in America, thanks to our Second Amendment and its protection of the right to arm bears.

That's the kookiest thing I've heard in a long time. You kill a Polar Bear cub in order to protect the integrity of your animal protection laws. I think what is at work here is a hidden political agenda that cares more about some political cause than animals.

Okay, so Knut's mother abandoned him. It happens in the wild. Heck, it happens in other zoos. Quite a few species have been known to adopt abandoned babies. Chimps and elephants have done it. So have dogs and cats. It should not be any different in a captive environment, as long as the animal is not being mistreated. I do feel that animals are far more innocent than human beings and yet we don't tear off and shoot abandoned or orphaned children. Instead, we let Angelina Jolie adopt them.

What I want to know is where in the heck is PETA. I stopped by their website and saw no word of cute little Knut and his adventures. In this case, am I to assume that they agree with Frank Albrecht and his ilk. It would seem that they'd want to come to the defense of this little feller instead of turning their back. I guess what a group doesn't say says much about how they really feel.

I was recently shocked and outraged to learn of PETA's dark side recently revealed at the trial of PETA workers in North Carolina who were arrested for dumping animal carcasses of animals they had euthanized in a dumpster behind a grocery store. Not many of PETA's funders know of the killing vans that scour the countrysides in search of animals to relieve of suffering. Not many people know that PETA does not even have an animal shelter on its premises, but rather a walk-in freezer for animal bodies and a contract for a cremetoriam. The trial transcript (available on PetaKillsAnimals.com)from the recent North Carolina trial (end of January) shows that PETA admits they actually kill healthy animals, and they often lie to people to retrieve animals from them, because, actually they seem to believe it is better to put animals to sleep before they have the chance to suffer! Further research into the world of animal activism will show that a huge controversy/split has emerged within the animal acivist community: animal "rights" orgs. vs. animal "welfare" orgs.

PETA is firmly in the animal rights category, and, the founders of that organization separated because of this issue. The major animal rescue, welfare, sanctuary type organizations around the world are up in arms against PETA and other animal rights organizations; the animal rights organizations treat people in heartbreaking ways to obtain their animals to kill, and, as well descend into criminal activity to support their bizarre, narscissistic philosophy. Beware PETA and Animal Rights groups!

According to these activists, all domesticated animals should be euthanized as a show of compassion. Apparently they'd agree with China's brilliant rabies prevention program (sarcasm) of recent dog massacre rulings; to exterminate all dogs (pets included) in certain provinces. Virtually every German has a dog, I doubt that would go over well. I certainly am opposed to the mistreatment, unnecessary caging, or exploitation of animals, but in this case Knut appears to be treated in quite the opposite fashion.

I don't find this surprising at all in the 90's my family lived with in sight of the San Diego Wild Animal Park and some activist group set fire to the place so all the animals could be free of the humans running the place. Then around the same time frame there was some duck (I think it was ducks, birds anyway) disease outbreak and scientists were rounding up the sick birds so they could be put down to save the entire population, again some nutjob activist group thought it was wrong to kill the bids, broke into the facility and let the sick birds out to spread the disease and in quite possibly kill all the birds.

leaving aside the narcissism and mental illness that these wackos clearly suffer from (I commented on that above) has anyone thought of the irony in how the global warming types are all yelling over how polar bears are going to supposedly go extinct in the near future?
I can think of a few German activists who I at least would enjoy seeing just that happen to.
