Maria Shriver Hosting Larry King Live

It's on right now, but repeats at 9pm ET. The topic is the Edwards cancer announcement. Technically, I think she's doing a good job and has an array of guests on, including Dr. Susan Love, discussing the issue.

I made a point yesterday on the O'Reilly Factor that Arnold Schwarzeneggar's tilt to the Left is due, in part, to the fact that his wife, Shriver, is a leftist. In 1992 in McCall's Magazine she characterized Arnold's Republican politics as a "sickness." we can't dismiss the impact on that man of the woman most important to him and her politics.

One blog picked up on that comment and surmised that I made it within some grand conspiracy scheme against Shriver because she was hosting Larry King Live tonight, and would be competing with Fox for ratings. Oh brother.

...Maybe that's why the folks over at Fox News were so tough on Shriver last night. In discussing the governor's leftward tilt, conservative talk show host Tammy Bruce blamed Maria. "Let me tell you this guy is in his heart he's a conservative. I'm convinced. The influencing factor is going to bed with a Kennedy every night."

No one at Fox asked me what my comments would be, nor have they ever told me what to say. If that was their approach, I would not be associated with the network. In fact, of all the networks, only Fox has never booked me or unbooked me based on what they thought I would say.

That said, I do believe Shriver is a classic leftist. There's a reason why she's on CNN and it's not because she's an Authentic Conservative. Having served on the Schwarzeneggar's Transition Team when he won the recall race here in California, I met Maria for the first time, and even then was rather surprised by how severe she looked in person. Up until then, it wasn't so obvious on camera.

Well, tonight is another story. She looks to me to be shockingly thin, and, frankly, is difficult to look at. I'm not saying this to malign her personally, and I certainly don't mean it that way, but I've noted to you in the past the importance of appearance and what it says about us. I'm not sure what this says about Shriver, but I wanted to note it to you because that's the first thing I thought when I saw her. I realize her mother also has always had the extremely severe look, but none of the other Kennedy women have. I don't know what to make of it, but it's actually become sort of disturbing.

TAMMY: So have you ever tried to figure-out the Carville/Matalin union? For the life of me, I just can't figure that one. Is true love THAT strong -- or blind? Yikes.

I think Maria's severe look could be tempered with a few hearty meals that are kept down. She does look rugged. No wonder Arnold played around (allegedly).
