Popular Mechanics Responds to Rosie's 9/11 Conspiracy Meltdown

Who took my cheeseburger?!?

Apparently no portrait in the attic for Rosie

On Tammy Radio today I commented on Rosie O'Donnell's delusions about September 11th and her assertions that it was an American government conspiracy. This after her similar paranoid/conspiracy rant about the Iranian hostage taking of the British sailors either being faked or arranged by us, the British, or maybe Martians. All she knows is someone is setting up the gentle, compassionate and 'ethical' Iranians.

Other than the mental health issues in question, the bizarre claims of conspiracy surrounding 9-11 have been addressed over the years by a number of respected scientists, researchers and engineers, including the editors of Popular Mechanics. They now respond to Rosie's delusions on their blog, and deconstruct her wild accusations, one by one.

911myths.jpg

She would have been well served to read their book, "Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up to the Facts," before jumping the shark in front of millions of people. Here's how Booklist reviewed their work:

Expanding on an article published in Popular Mechanics in March 2005, the staff of the highly regarded magazine painstakingly deconstructs many of the myths surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Drawing on interviews with engineers, aviation experts, military officials, eyewitnesses, and investigators, this book addresses only those questions raised by conspiracy theorists, mostly that somehow the U.S. government was behind the attacks, and puts forth no theory of its own. Each section announces a theory, discloses the major proponents behind the theory, and deconstructs the theories specifically surrounding the World Trade Center (the fires could not have melted the steel in the structure), the Pentagon (the holes in the building were too small to have been made by a Boeing 757), and United Flight 93 (that it was actually shot down by an air force plane). The afterword details how Popular Mechanics itself was accused of being part of the conspiracy to support the administration. Although it isn't likely to stop conspiracy theorists, this book offers sound information for readers to ponder.

While her comments attacking various people like the president or Rumsfeld in the past on "The View" have generated wild applause, her 9/11 conspiracy screed received the excited response of one moonbat applauding. One. At least we have that good news.

Also a must-read in the midst of the disturbed seeming to control the national discussion these days, is "Conspiracy Industry," a terrific article from last year by James Meigs, the Editor-In-Chief of Popular Mechanics. He writes about what it was like for them when they came face-to-face with the industry, but also does a fabulous job deconstructing their very specific and deluded techniques. A fascinating, and important, read.

I think everyone knows Rosie is a head case. The disturbing thing isn't Rosie herself, but that we're on the defensive. Tomorrow the details of this story will be forgotten, but the sensationalism will stir up interest in what she'll say next, and people will tune in to hear her next crackpot pronouncement. And we'll again go scrambling to address that, as if her stupid charges were to be taken seriously. This is fundamentally wrong. We need to change the subject. If it isn't self-evident that these are the ravings of a paranoid lunatic, then the nation has a much bigger problem than Rosie.

Good job, guys. Now could you do something about that global warming rumor?

Posted by: brutepcm [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 02:23 AM

It's a commentary on our culture that this very ugly human gets press any and every time she opens her trap! What has she ever done in her life? She has NO talent? She isn't attractive or very smart yet ABC gives her a national forum? C'mon! This is why I don't EVER watch network TV for any reason EVER!

Posted by: SLABBOTT [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 03:53 AM

there are certain subjects where rational thought will not avail itself. Talking to some of Rosies delusions is one such case. As my sister told me years ago (member of the Mass Bar) when you have the law, pound the law: when you have the facts, pound the facts: when you have neither, pound the table. It's been a good barometer over the years to note what people are pounding. LAW (or reasons), FACTS, or TABLE.
Resistance is futile you WILL be assimilated!

The amount of time that bright, intelligent, relevant people are spending discussing Rosie's rantings is disappointing. She does not merit this kind of coverage. I would add another truism to BOTG's above. "Behavior that is ignored will go away." But I guess Rosie's behavior is too enticing for the pundits to ignore and too easy to discredit, so the punditry can't resist the dismantling of her lies and platitudes. Rosie is winning this round and that pathetic show is growing ratings. The worst part is that some of the people that watch that show vote.

Posted by: Lib85 [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 07:46 AM

Rosie isn't saying that the government was behind 9/11. She has never said that. What she's questioning is if WTC 7 was brought down intentionally and why the collapse of WTC 7 wasn't in the 9/11 report. There's a huge difference between thinking that Bush and Cheney orchestrated the entire attack and wondering if Larry Silverstein brought down his own building.

I know it's easy to jump all over Rosie and most of the time she deserves it but there's no sense in jumping all over her for something she hasn't said.

[You've got to be kidding. So, you're making excuses for a woman who has also said within 24 hours of that moronic statement about 9/11 that the government is also conspiring and falsifying the seizure of the British marines for an excuse to invade Iran, and has said that the WMD was also a conspiracy by Bush, deliberately fabricated as an excuse to invade Iraq, but she never had any intention, nor did she mean to suggest that Bush and the govt was involved with 9/11? I know it must be sad to watch this happen to her, but don't devolve into your own conspiracy theory to pretend that this woman isn't in serious personal trouble.--ed].

Posted by: HufflePuff [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 09:50 AM

9/11 Conspiracy theorists are incapable of logic. We know that Rosie has mental problems, but her condition is worsening as she appears now to be deteroriating into madness.

What does Rosie know about physics? The only thing she knows is how to open her big trap to stuff ding dongs into or to release some innanity or noxious stupidity.

Let's see, with 9/11 we have video footage, paper trails out the ying yang, eyewitness testimonies from airline industry workers, police, firefighters, military, families of those on the planes, and those who called while on the planes, and of course we have an admission from Bin Ladin himself and his accomplices. And yet this is all bogus. Why is it that with this MOTHER of all conspiracies, not one person in the thousands required to pull off this spectacular hoax has come forward to either ease his conscience or enrich himself? Why hasn't anyone leaked damning documents to the New York Times?
Rosie is your CLASSIC classroom bully: a loud-mouthed, sarcastic, gotta be center of attention, look-at-me, obnoxious, selfish, intimidates with insults those who oppose her NOBODY.

Posted by: helpunderdog [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 10:27 AM

Another thing 9/11 conspiracists fail to rationalize is why would the govt. falsely implicate Bin Ladin and the Taliban? According to them, Born-again Christian Geoge and Laura Bush and a thousand co-conspirators plotted to kill 3000 Americans in order to squabble with resource-poor Afghanistan? WTF??! Conspiracy theorists are indecent imbeciles.

Posted by: helpunderdog [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 10:41 AM

I didn't know I had a conspiracy theory. I'm not defending what she said. I don't know how I can make that any clearer. I think what she said about the current situation in Iran is disgusting. Again, I don't know how to make that any clearer. What I'm trying to do is point out the difference between what she is saying about WTC 7 and the overall conspiracy theories regarding 9/11. She doesn't think that President Bush and a million co-conspirators plotted to kill 3000 Americans, as someone here mentioned. She has never said that. What she's questioning is WTC 7. Period. She's not saying that President Bush ordered the building to be imploded. She's asking how a building that wasn't hit by the terrorists could collapse in almost the exact same way.

Again, I am not defending her. I can't say that strongly enough. But the media is having a field day with this and lumping her in with the people like Charlie Sheen, who think that Cheney flew the airplanes into the towers using a remote control. There's a huge, huge difference.

[Oh, and how is it you "know" what it is she meant? Considering we do have to draw conclusions about who she thinks is responsible because I'm sure she's worried about lawsuits, so she just "infers" attempted or accomplished mass murder on an unnamed individual. So we have to draw from her comments about other events, like Iraq and Iran, which accuse the president and other US officials of directly of conspiring (Gulf of Tonkin! Google it!") causing massive loss of life for personal power agendas. So now you're saying she thinks an *individual* arranged to blow up a massive building, with people inside, rescue personnel running all around, and regular New Yorkers still trying to run away?

And I guess this unnamed person, not the government, somehow knew the terrorists were going to attack us, and made his building ready to explode at the same time? How convenient for him. So this individual person a) knew what was coming, b) knew terrorists were going to murder thousands and said nothing, and c) was ready to commit mass murder himself in order to demolish his building...For what? Insurance money?

And you suggest this is what she meant because is sounds *more reasonable* than the government conspiracy madness? Do you realize how insane this sounds??--ed.]

Please! HUFFLEPUFF...don't try to get up. Just stay on the canvas!

This is getting a little painful to witness... .

The conspiracy garbage is nothing new, so one more moonbat throwing out the same old crap didn't phase me at all.

It's the other thing she said, at the end of her rant, that concerns me and troubles me deeply, to paraphrase:

Don't fear the terrorists. They're mothers and fathers.

With that, she essentially implied a moral equivalence between US and a pack of blood thirsty animals who would murder every man, woman, and child that they percieve to be an enemy.

As Tammy would say, how DARE she?

Posted by: RagingBullmoose [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 31, 2007 07:32 PM

Hufflepuff - Rosie has continually 'inferred' that our government is responsible for 9/11. Who the hell else is she blaming in all this? Certainly not the Islamofascist Smegma who have taken credit for it!

Rosie has firmly supported the conspiracy theorists WHO BLAME OUR GOVERNMENT for 9/11. Why else does she speak for them? As for WTC 7 - uh hello - it would stand to reason that with such a massive explosion as the initial contact of the planes into each of the towers that upon their implosion, many structures would have been unstable in the aftermath. If Rosie is so taken with why WTC 7 fell, then she should have an expert physicist, engineer or one of the buildings architects provide answers instead of promoting her demented theories - or the demented, agenda-driven theories of other equally disturbed individuals.

On a further note, Rosie is NOT just asking about WTC - she has flat out stated 9/11 was the first time steel was melted by fuel, accused our military of being the aggressors and torturers, and defended Khalid Sheik Mohammed. In her view, that one man just could not be responsible for all the horrible terror plots including 9/11 - no siree! But, by golly! Our government, led by our president, can sure be the architects of all evil in all the universe! Never a man who has spent a lifetime crafting and carrying out hideous crimes against humanity.

Rosie is free to say what she wants no matter how stupid and uninformed, but others have the same freedom - and responsibility - to respond to it. It will be interesting to see the conspiracy theories abound when Rosie implodes - guess that will be our government's fault, too.

And she's just as much of a raging lunatic as Charlie Sheen.
