On O'Reilly Factor Tonight

Probably at about 20-30 minutes past the hour. It will be a debate about the LAPD's reaction to the illegal alien rally/riot that injured 15 police officers. And who is getting heat? Not the 100+ masked rioters, but the LAPD officers for defending themselves, inflicting a few bruises in the process, but managing to disperse a crowd of thousands without a small riot turning into a bigger one.

Already, the 'investigation' is turning into a lynch mob, a frenzy to punish the police for diffusing a situation and ending a potentially riotous dynamic. No wonder we have trouble finding people who want to be police in this city and so many others.

This is an example of how far gone Los Angeles is on this issue, and where the nation is headed--we have a group of people who have lived outside the law for so long, without facing repercussions for the criminal activity, and never having to consider any police force a threat, they simply are shocked they were shut down by the LAPD. While no one, no one, discusses how 15 police officers were injured and hospitalized, because that's not part of the "innocent people just having a rally" narrative.

The Los Angeles Times called the rally "mostly peaceful." Yeah, that's like being a little bit pregnant. And keep in mind what the biggest complaint about the LAPD was during the Los Angeles riot--that they didn't do enough, they didn't move in quickly enough, allowing a small local incident turn into a huge city-wide riot with fatalities.

They're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Tonight should be interesting. I hope you can tune in.

Tammy, would you like to move to Tennessee? We are passing some great laws here and we might have a great president shortly.

As someone who worked in the DA's office in LA, I think I cna safely say the LAPD have one of the hardest and most thankless jobs in the world. The City of Los Angeles is both densely populated and absolutely enormous geographically: LAPD is spread thin, often outnumbered and outgunned in a way almost no other police department so frequently is.

I love how some local stations are editing the infamous Rodney King video into their reports. They're certainly milking this for all its worth.

Interesting how Ted Hayes and the Minutemen Project can march without causing a near riot...but I suppose that's because they didn't allow any criminal elements to join in with them.

If anything, they required police protection from all of the counter demonstrators.

Although you were able to speak only a minute, thanks for giving the intelligent and insightful analysis required!

Just watched my tape of O'Reilly. First off, Bratton should be ashamed of himself. Maybe if he was out on the front lines a bit more he'd be whistling a different tune. Secondly, this is a perfect example of the utter lack of respect these illegal Mexicans (and their supporters) have for this country, its people and laws. We are nothing but a big doormat to them. They prey on our decency as a nation. This time, there were tangible consequences for their actions. Unfortunately that hasn't always been the case. Thank God the police stood up and fought back.

Glad you spoke first. Terrific as always.

I'm actually not surprised that the LAPD has become the target of an investigation, instead of the protesters who started the whole thing...after all, this IS Los Angeles we're talking about. I did a little research on it's mayor,Antonio Villaraigosa. Before becoming mayor he belonged to an organization that believed that the southern part of the U.S rightfully belonged to Mexico:

http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=3531

And he recently tried to take control of the Los Angeles school district:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/18/BAGEKPAN8Q1.DTL&feed=rss.bayarea

But he's not giving up!

http://www.latimes.com/news/education/la-me-lausd4may04,1,3591.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

If he is able to control the school board,he will be in charge of,among other things, the school CURRICULUM.Sorry, this is sort of off the subject but I thought your readers might be interested in Mayor Villaraigosa and his motivation for backing the 'immigrant' protesters instead of the Police.

Good for you Tammy. I experienced something similar 20 years ago: When I was in college (Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo) as a senior, one of my roommates was the editor of the campus newspaper. He got a call one night saying that he should get down to where a local concert had broken out into a riot. The roommate asked me to drive.

There were cops from lots of jurisdictions there who were trying to send the crowd home. After parking, my roommate and I approached on foot and I told him to make sure his press pass was easily seen. We foolishly walked past some students at the top of a hill throwing bottles and rocks at the police, and yelling "Fascist pigs!" and made our way through the crowd to the front to find out what was going on.

It must made been our youthful optimism that made us believe that the police would distinguish us from the rest of the rowdy crowd; they did not, and I took a baton shot on my elbow as I was now retreating with others.

Being at the receiving end, I of course thought at the time that the police had gone overboard but I had to rethink it later when I saw the damage the rioters had done to the building and some of the police. Just as with the mess in L.A. the other day, the police were trying to stop further damage and protecting themselves. How they get blamed for stupid acts of violence by others is beyond me.
