Monday Amnesty Update

A Los Angeles Times story, also being run by the Boston Globe, is trying to spin the massive rejection of the Amnesty Bill by 97% of Americans as an organizing effort 'bluster' (in other words: fake) by one group--NumbersUSA.

In the meantime, in another L.A. Times piece, Feinstein is still determined to believe that we're all a bunch of morons:

"There has to be detention of people coming across the border," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a supporter of the bill. "So there will be border enforcement, 3,500 additional border patrol, before any other part of the bill goes into place. People don't understand that."

That isn't the point, Dianne. The point is, 20 million people who have been breaking this nation's laws, stealing identities, stealing social services, and draining our infrastructure dry, are going to be rewarded with amnesty. Immediately, with the Permanent Temporary Visa. Her statement that certain enforcement happens "before any other part of the bill goes into effect" is simply not true. The Z-via aspects may not all kick in, but that's only if people want citizenship. In the meantime, they all become defacto legal. In fact, how can she even say what will and will not be the case with the bill--it supposedly isn't even finished yet.

Yeah, Dianne, certain people don't understand a lot, and it's the people with the word "Senator" in front of their names.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) predicted that the bill would prevail, but Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) maintained it was losing support among the public and key senators.

"We need to go back, reevaluate it and create something we can be proud of," said Sessions, who argued that the measure would be too easy on illegal immigrants. He continued: "We're going to use every effort to slow this process down and continue to hold up the bill."

It's up to you to determine which man, Kenned or Sessions, will be proven right.

Organized labor is also split, with some unions wary of a stronger guest worker program. The AFL-CIO last week formally came out against the bill.

Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said on "Fox News Sunday": "I'm not committed to voting for the final product. The wheels may come off. But I am committed to trying."

Wow, that's leadership for you.

Kennedy said the public recognized the issue was complex: "The American people know that we can't have bumper-sticker solutions. The cliches, slogans that we hear on the Senate floor are not going to solve our problem. All this problem will do is get worse if we do nothing."

Oh yeah, we're going to do something Teddy. We're going to fire a lot of politicians, effectively ending the status quo.

To end this post, I bring you the audio making the rounds of the blogosphere--a United States Senator making an ass of himself in an embarrassing display of drunken pandering to illegal aliens on Spanish radio. At the end, Teddy Kennedy assures the host, a man who sounds suspiciously like the Frito Bandito, that he "won't let them down."

And that, my friends, sums up the condition of the American government this weekend.

I continue to write my senators here in Minnesota. I am starting to hope the fix isn't in!

For over 75 years the people who do *not* understand have lived in and around DC.

One exception that proves the rule was a Californian (a man who is/was the antithesis of GWB) who as President said in a State of the Union address over 20 years ago, “ The government can never solve the problem,… because the government *is* the problem.” Tammy being a Californian knows of whom I speak. Anyone reading this who does not, ask and I will name names!

The EM stories emphasize "pathway to citizenship" because this phrase got favorable polling. What isn't said is that opinion in favor of border security first demolishes the support for "pathway to citizenship". Why bring that up, eh EM? The spin is that fear mongering is poisoning the good hearts of the American people. Well, the news flash for the EM is the Left doesn't like the bill either. The Progressive Case Against the Immigration Bill

In fact, this immigration bill is an historically bad bill, one that will undermine wage markets and which will permanently cripple skills training in vital sectors of the economy. And -- contrary to Lou Dobbs and the nativists -- the critical problem with the bill has nothing to do with the path to citizenship provided therein. Hell, everyone this side of the Minutemen agrees that there needs to be a humane path to citizenship for those undocumented workers who are living, working, and contributing in the United States. The fact that this bill provides a version of that path is about the only positive aspect of the legislation. No, the fatal flaw in this bill isn't "amnesty" -- it's the euphemistically termed "temporary worker program."

Here's a fascinating sentence from the AP article linked below. "Democrats have taken hits from their normal allies, including labor and some Hispanic groups."

Hmmm... I seeeeee... so this means they have been unwillingly zapped by the evil talk-radio laser beam. They now listen daily (like glassy-eyed zombies, of course) to Tammy and Laura and are big Michelle Malkin fans. Right. J

"Immigration Outcome Too Close to Call"

[If it's "too close to call," folks, then it's NOW OR NEVER FOR US!! Keep hangin' in.]

Much like attacking John Murtha's "patriotism" by criticizing any of the nonsense that dribbles out of his mouth, talk radio is now "misrepresenting" the criminal alien pardon bill, sorry; amnesty bill, oh sorry again; immigration reform act.

Of course the answer to all of this is to bring back the Speech Control---oops, the Fairness Doctrine, and none other than the illustrious Sen. Feinstein answered Chris Wallace on FOX when he asked if she supported the FD with this: "Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way". (quote stolen quite unashamedly from Neal Boortz' website)

It's amazing how they fear something like 12% of the total media audience. I don't remember that as a radio listener filing for minority status, that's the only way I could think of that talk radio listeners "run the country".

So what Senator Feinstein and others like her are saying when there is overwhelming opposition to such harmful legislation and have to face questions like "why are you promoting this?" is simple: "Shut up, that's why!"
