The iPhone. iWant It. iNeed It.

iphone_2.jpg

I have always liked the gadgets but up until now have stayed away from the PDAs. It seems, generally, that the guys like the PDAs while we chicks prefer the paper-based systems. I still have my Filofax, and love it, but I've also always been an Apple devotee and am very excited about the iPhone.

Some friends tell me I should wait because it will go down in price, and the first ones will have glitches, etc, but I don't care. I want my iPhone. Apparently I am obsessed. I want the iPhone and I don't care if it's trouble. It's like when everyone said "Don't get the calico kitten. They're all crazy." And I picked the calico, maybe because they're all crazy. And Snoopy is a little eccentric, but she's amazing, and unique and incredible. She's a handful, and that's how I like it.

I do feel the iPhone could very well be the culmination of what all our information tech advances have been about. Phone. iPod. Web. Maps. Life. Touchscreen (which I really love). Compact-ish. Cute. Like a puppy. That could be the chick angle--the puppy quotient. I'm there.

Yes, I will get an iPhone. I am planning my plot to get one the moment it's released at 6pm on the 29th. Most of my friends are now encouraging me to get it because they want to try it. I will be the willing guinea pig. I am being enabled by everyone else, and that's fine with me.

I will, of course, also report back to you.

All hail Apple. All hail the iPhone! Are you with me, or do you, too, consider the iPhone to be the equivalent of a calico cat--probably a little nuts, best to be avoided, and there are so many other options. But none will be able to compare, of course. I'm sure if you have an opinion you'll chime in right here. :)

UPDATE:

Allah at Hot Air has posted Apple's 20 minutes with the iPhone video. Scrumptious!

I think you meant PDA (not PDF) - plus now that it's been blogged it's a write-off, right? ;)

[LOL! yeah, I'm sure she did. I'll fix that up right away :)--ed.]

I am just jealous... I want one so bad. I think it is an amazing device. I WILL have one, who knows I might find myself in line next Friday too.

I guess I am saying I am with you on this one

Cheers!

Hello,
I saw you today on O'Reilly Factor, you were great. That was a great, powerful message that you brought. I am sick and tired of the whole "RACIST" stories. This is embarrassing to this country that we deal with this stupid stuff. This was the first time I heard about the violence that happened in those three states. Those people should be put to jail for the rest of their lives; they are the racists. As we all know the media is made with liberals and liars. I think we should change the definition (at least the definition that people in this country know) of RACISM. Racism does not mean "Against Black". I am so frustrated I cannot even write. But I am glad you came forward and said smth. We need more people like you, and if this does not happen any time soon, this country will be going down.
Thanks a lot.
P.S. I cannot display my name because I will be called "RACIST". So much for freedom of speech!!!

Dear Tammy:

I've been an Apple fan since my first Apple with a monstrous 20 MB hard drive (not included in the case of the computer!)! Good luck with the iPhone, but it's not for me. I'm afraid I see my phone as a communications device, first and foremost, but I understand your gadget-related lust.

One other item if you'll bear with me. I just saw the photo of you advertising your radio program. You look, as always, quite lovely, but--and I speak as a certified small arms instructor--never, ever put your finger in the triggerguard of a weapon, and on the trigger, until you are milliseconds from firing. The proper term is keeping the trigger finger "in register," which means, pointing it parallel to the barrel and in contact with the right side of the frame. Not only is this the only truly safe way to handle firearms, it makes you look very wise and cool indeed to those who know proper firearm technique. What do you care about what the others think anyway? Keep up the good work!

I have always been an Apple devotee, but I sold my soul to Verizon back in November. :*-(

Tammy,
I have wanted that phone since that news conference months ago; alas, I will have to have an IPOD Phone fund to get it, but I will!! I know alot of folks that will be right behind you in line. I can not wait to hear all about it..

I am a big apple person, however the iphone isn't happening since I'm not a customer of AT&T.
I do have a coworker who has researched the iphone. Two words:
Buy it!!!!

Posted by: ltlme [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 21, 2007 09:07 PM

Tammy I have been an Apple fan for years (got my first Mac in 1984). I have purposely let me contract with my current cell phone carrier expire, they keep calling and offering incentives to renew. But since they don't have the iPhone they just get quiet when I tell them I am waiting to look at the iPhone.

I will be looking at the iPhone very closely, the only disappointment I have is that I had horrible service from AT&T many years ago. I hope they have improved... :) because I want that iPhone!!

Posted by: Skeptic [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 21, 2007 10:32 PM

I'm glad to see that AT&T got on board with this.

Which means that I won't even have to change my cell phone carrier.

I've been a devoted Mac fan since 1994 and their constant, progressive stylish gadgets had me at "hello". But stuck with a Verizon contract for the next two years, I will have to wait this one out and live vicariously through others. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Long live Apple & Tammy Radio!

I'll be waiting a while (already filled my "new gadgets" $$$ quotient for a bit), but i definitely want one too. I work (dabble) in IT and my coworkers are also pretty excited about it. Their advice also is buy it--Who cares about bugs with something sweet like this! Apple's pretty helpful with problems anyway. I can't say a lot about AT&T either but it's been a good while since I had them and they will hopefully back this product up well with their service since a lot is riding on it for them. thanks for keeping us posted on this, Tammy (and for everything else you do too!!!!)

That's really something that I can actually read your enthusiasm in your posting Tammy!

Come Christmastime I think you would be the perfect shopping companion to take the sting out of dealing with the crush of mall inhabitants.

Get someone with a camera to follow you so the rest of us can shop vicariously with you!

Actually there might be an industry to be born there, buy things online, then go do some "virtual shopping" on YouTube. There could even be finding a virtual parking spot, which isn't too much different than the real thing around December!

I enjoy your gadget posts Tammy, your enthusiasm is contagious!

The iPhone is spurring on a slew of similar products, Forbes has and article about them:

http://www.forbes.com/2007/06/19/iphone-mogul-treo-tech-wireless-cx_df_0619iphoneoptions.html

I think in the cellphone world there's a rising tide about to lift all boats.

Posted by: chas [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 23, 2007 11:32 AM

CHAS just made me think of something with that "rising tide" comment.
Why isn't WATERPROOF a major feature of any cell phone?
Usually the death of any phone I have had has been in a washbasin or a 5 gallon bucket (fortunately never in a toilet yet, but I think I would just flush it if that happened).
The last one I had would do all kinds of gee whiz stuff and set me back $100, but one dunking when I was washing the car and it was lost with all hands.
Is a little gasket or o-ring too much to ask in a technology that is this widespread, this competitive, and this vital to everything we do?

Or is the iPhone waterproof? If so, please disregard.

Posted by: Neil A Russell [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 23, 2007 05:36 PM

Tammy,
Stone cold truth to follow....
I've held iPhone in my hand, made calls on it, synced it to my Mac (OMG was that easy), surfed the web, watched a monkey get a bottle open on YouTube, et al . It is truly the easiest and most useful cell phone in the world. Tammy, you will love it. I can't tell you how hard everyone has been working on it to make it the most amazing customer experience they've ever had.

You. Will. Love. It.
