Estrich: I'm Old, Bitter and Dateless

Frankly, those are the only messages you get from her latest column. And what a shame, because she also illustrates how ridiculous the 'feminist establishment' truly has become while simultaneously reinforcing the stereotype that feminists are simply bitter and jealous.

Fred Thompson's Trophy Wife

Fred Thompson, would-be presidential candidate, is 64 years old and looks it. His wife, Jeri, is two years younger than one of his daughters and looks even younger than her 40 years.

This term is generally used to refer to women who are substantially younger, less wrinkled, and sometimes, but not always, more accomplished than the old model. The old model was there when the guy was nobody, offering him support, cleaning the house, and giving birth to the children who are now older than the new edition...

The reaction I hear from every woman I know, those who have gotten sick to their stomachs over seeing middle-aged men cavorting with girls barely beyond their teen years, is a giant "yuck."

What does it say about a man who's busy having babies only two years after being diagnosed with lymphoma? What does it say that he'd rather be with someone who wasn't even alive when JFK was shot, or at least was too young to remember where she was?

What does it say that he doesn't care that she doesn't remember the songs and the history and the fears we grew up with? Where does it leave those of us who do?

Dateless is where. And maybe voting no.

Silly me--I thought the feminist movement was about making sure women could make the choices that best suited them, which very well might include marrying a man you love, who also happens to be handsome, rich, famous and powerful.

Yeah, that Jeri Thomson, what a bitch. Or just maybe, Susan, you're 'dateless' because you're an older, bitter resentful woman. And that, at any age, makes a woman remarkably ugly.

I did not read the article because Tammy forewarned me of its content and because I have heard Susan on the Radio many times. Because I know she is a die hard Dem (not as far left as most, even more conservative than many RINOS in Congress and the White House)I bet she neglected to mention the Mayor of LA (Where she has a house.) banging a woman younger than 2 of his kids, and someone other than his wife.
Anyone reading the article tell me if I am wrong.

Though I've not seen Ms. Estrich often on TV, I can't recall ever seeing her smile. She seems to be a generally unhappy person. Someone might want to inform her that much of life's "happiness" or "unhappiness" is self-made. If we are waiting for others to provide our "happiness," we, like Ms. Estrich, might wait forever in vain.

I had to read the article twice even to follow her premise, thinking my logic skills were slipping – but it truly is nothing more than an illogical house of cards. She builds the entire thing with empty examples, throws them all together and concludes they are meaningless, then simply dismisses her own argument in the same bitter breath! Is she for real? Every time she inserted another and another snarky question, I could only yell, “Who cares?!”

The final six “paragraphs” earned the loudest shouts of disbelief. However, there was one exciting moment when I learned that, at 41, I am “barely beyond [my] teenage years.” Awesome! Instantly the boobs perked right back up, but this sudden onslaught of acne sucks...

Should we tell her that a man overcoming cancer and treatment strongly enough to make babies with a young chick says he’s probably strong enough to stare Putin in the eyes? Oh, and one other little thing – also says he’s keeping it in the bed with his wife instead of in the toilet with a gal who really WAS barely beyond a teenager!

Here are MY questions, Susan: Has your entire life become so shallow and stupid that you can’t remember women who aren't ruled by (to quote you) “yuck” and “ick” but vote with slightly more informed convictions? Isn’t the latter what you burned your bra to be my legacy? Most importantly, have you compiled a list of each candidate’s and his wife’s musical preferences and childhood memories to study before endorsing one? (Okay, that one was snarky too.)

God help us if all the men vote according to jealousy vs. arousal, and all the women vote according to yuck vs. wanting to bed a man as virile as Fred!

Memo to Sue: Sour grapes make your breath stink. Ick!

The issue is made of straw. So far all the opinions about Thompson from the left have been made this way. Attempts to derail him before he gets in the race on non-issue issues.

There's something about Thompson that is scaring the pants off the left and other than his ability to beat the entire crowd of candidates in both parties I don't know what it is.

Since Thompson is running a "stealth" candidacy, staying at the top without spending a dime because of his refusal to announce, there haven't been too many issues released from the Thompson camp.

But visit any political discussion thread and all you see is post after post decrying Thompson for being "too old" or "shot through with cancer" or "a tail chaser" or "lobbyist" or "Libby sympathizer" and it's said with the same venom that is used against President Bush.

Oh and the ever popular "he's just a carbon copy of Bush" is all over the boards.

If that one in particular were true I doubt very seriously if Thompson's numbers would be as high as they are.

Fred Thompson represents a tremendous threat to the democrats and the left, which is a good thing, I just can't figure out what it is!

I'm open to suggestions at this point.

I'm wondering if Mz. Estrich wrote an article of such substance after Clinton brought Monica to her knees expressing her outrage with Bill.
I really do feel sorry for Estrich. She has got to be one miserable woman. But then again the left love to wallow in misery. Teri

Hey Jeweytunes: I, too, am thrilled to know I am now considered 'barely beyond (my) teenage years'. Guess we should be glad to see those of us 'girls' in our 40's are more accomplished, desirable and happier than a dour, bitter, scowling, miserable and sagging broad.

Estrich's tirade does sound more like the sort of jealousy, pettiness and snobbish BS you get from someone writhing in self-hatred and loneliness. It's sad she had to write such a pointless article. It sort of pushes aside anything worthy she has stood for in the past - some items of which I have been in agreement with her - certainly not on this! I can almost picture Estrich in a barely lit room w/ a bottle of gin while keying away on the pressing 'Thompson news' in the wee hours, letting a raspy curse word escape from her lips. She continues on this bitter path, she'll wind up in the attic of an abandoned farmhouse somewhere clanking chains at night.

Susan Estrich aligned herself w/ the Bra Burning Brigade, but she never considered the day she would so desperately need that bra to help hold her neck up.

Hmmm, shows you just how terrified of Fred Thompson the libs really are. Anyone who frightens them becomes the target of unrelenting examination and criticism (even if they have to make it up as they go along).

They'll never admit it, of course, but you know they're scared as hell of someone like Thompson running against their precious Hillary in the general election (48- or 49-state landslide, anyone?). Hence that idiotic, illogical gibberish from Ms. Estrich the other day.

AG, yeah I agree about Estrich -- although I don't know her whole (often intense) history, I've known enough not to consider her to this point a bona fide Moonbat. That's why this blew me away, if nothing else just the sheer illogic of it. I cracked up over your imagery; don't you think we should add an ashtray full of stubbed-out filters and one still smoldering... and for "keying," hell let's just go all the way and stick in Hemingway's Royal??

Neil, is it as simple as the charisma factor, the star power? I don't like everything about how Fred is handling this early phase of the hunt, nor everything in his issues/history closet (although being a TN boy covers a multitude of sins!), but none of the other Rep's is as interesting a package -- and after these 6 1/2 years of a cowboy-turned-wet-washcloth, even I get excited thinking about Arthur Blank in the White House. But is that all we'll get: a President I'm-Not-a-Lawyer-but-I-Play-One-on-TV instead of the smart, tough Commander we're starving for?

Hillary absolutely must have Bill's star appeal. None of the others has it like he does, not even Obama. The scales will tip dramatically without Bill. So would it make sense that anyone with the potential to outshine Bill's spit-shined tin would threaten the whole side? J

Susan sadly jumped the shark when she made the anti-Ann Coulter screed in her book where she mimicked the cover of Ann's book. She grew her hair long, she lost weight, she tried to look like Coulter -- but she couldn't carry it off, she came off as bitter and jealous.

I used to have a bit of respect for Susan when she would honestly look at things that the Dems were doing and would comment on the destructive nature of their actions. But, something happened around the time that Coulter's last book came out, Susan went weird.

Her subsequent columns have demonstrated a poor reasoning, she has focused on her own resentments possibly... but she has jumped the shark. When she shows up I find myself thinking how ridiculous she looked when she tried to mimic Ann Coulter, how empty her arguments had gotten on TV and how many shows don't even have her on any more. She changed for the worse and I don't miss the person she has become.

Having just left my teen years myself just a few weeks ago, I still cannot get over this article. Am I in HIGH SCHOOL? Good Lord.

I'm willing to bet Ms. E had no plans on voting for Thompson anyway - but having a baseless reason for voting like a stupid head is better than just admitting you're a dodo.

Susan Estrich and Arianna Huffington are peas in a pod. They will never get that being angry and bitter makes them ugly. Also, am I the only one out there that notices that Female Conservative Pundits are ALWAYS better looking than Female Liberal Pundits? I think it has something to do with Madame Ann Coulter's reasoning that Female Feminists need a general hygiene class.
