You should be "packing heat." You have always been responsible for your personal safety, and if our Dem. friends get their way, the war will be taking place in our shopping malls, theaters and schools.</p> It has, of late, seemed to me to be important for conservatives to publicly ask these questions, over and over and over:

(1) Why can Democrat press releases and statements on the war be substituted, virtually verbatim, for terrorist press releases and videos?

(2) When the only way for an American political party to win is for America to lose, what does that say about it’s adherents?

And Pat_S, you’re right. You should be “packing heat.” You have always been responsible for your personal safety, and if our Dem. friends get their way, the war will be taking place in our shopping malls, theaters and schools.

It's possible Bush will make a big decision about Iran, but I think it hinges on Israel's ability to press an emotional argument that appeals to his Good-Evil worldview dichotomy. Bush can get his head around a short-term bombing campaign. </p> <p>I don't see how the current conflict in Iraq can end successfully for us at this point, but we have a generation of war ahead of us. Don't despair. Dubya may have mucked up a lot of things, and he has screwed up plenty. But I think even he has a core issue that will always be something he focuses on. And at his very core, I believe he will focus on iran. Somehow or another, Dubya's final act will be directed at the mullahs. And I expect him to be VERY serious when he treads there. Even though an attack will result in some acts of terrorism against we and our friends, it is OUR price to pay to win this war against savages. The milk toast "war" strategy planning based on politics and public opinion belongs in Ripley's Believe It or Not. The idea of winning was thrown out years ago by this administration. It will be a Congressionally mandated retreat or a humiliating "more-modest attempt" that is doomed to fail and only get more of our splendid young men and women killed or maimed. The politicians already lost the war. Our enemies, foreign and domestic, have won. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and some allies in the Bush administration are seeking to build bipartisan political support for a long-term U.S. presence in Iraq by moving toward withdrawing significant numbers of troops from Iraq by the end of President Bush’s term.

The emerging plan would shift the U.S. mission in Iraq to a more-modest attempt to contain its civil war, rather than the current effort to end the conflict.
