I had this image in my head of the empty stadiums and arenas after the concerts were over, filled with paper debris and empty bottles...while Al Gore sat upon a horse in the foreground with a single tear running down his face...you know, just like the crying Indian...

From Accuweather.com:

Gore's Army may be Lacking in Scientific Background
Al Gore knew he could not get his message out about the dangers of global warming without some help, so he decided to recruit 1000 volunteers to help spread the word. This idea became the "The Climate Project". According to the project director, Jenny Clad, applicants were chosen on their ability to commit to doing 10 presentations and reaching unique groups of people. But, there were no questions in the application about the applicants background with meteorology, climatology or any kind of science. Once the applicants were selected, there was a training session held in Nashville, Tennessee.

Amazing!!!

I know I'm coming into this late, but I have some questions about Al Gore III's high speed joyride in a Prius.

1) How steep was the hill he was driving down at the time?

2) How much of a tailwind was there?

3) How big was the rubber band used to propel the Prius that fast down the hill?

Artgal, 90+% of the possession of cannabis charges I've filed come from traffic stops. Lighting up in your car is an easy way to get a drug charge--and the arrest affidavits all start with approximately "defendant rolled down the window, and what based upon my training and experience I immediately recognized as the odor of burnt cannabis emanated from within"--but the overwhelming majority of those cases are neither investigated as nor charged as DUI. That's because here in Florida, and I imagine something similar is the case in California, to prove DUI you have to prove more than the defendant was under the influence: you have to prove that he or she was under the influence "to the extent their normal faculties were impaired," i.e., it's not necessarily criminal to drive after having had one beer or one joint. It's highly fact-sensitive, of course: fun with the jury.

It's true that reports have not said AGIII was under the influence of anything, but it does state that a cop smelled pot which prompted him to search the car. Unless AGIII lit up or had marijuana opened up in the car, the chances a cop would have caught the scent is unlikely. Nothing was mentioned of whether the guy downed the many prescriptions named either.

I recall some years back when Jeb Bush's daughter had a substance abuse problem and it wasn't something to be joked about then and neither is the condition or activities of AGIII now. He's not the one preaching on the public stage, so I look at the situation as 'hands off' when it comes to a public figure's family members. Certainly, there is room for reporting what happened, but anything more is unnecessary unless it were Al Gore Jr. After all, it is Jr. that needs to be held accountable on his claims - his son has not made public statements concerning global warming or any issue that I am aware of.

When or if AGIII ever does take a public position on something then yes, we can ask him how driving 100mph w/ pot and an assortment of prescription drugs helped the environment. In the mean time, I hope the guy gets serious help and suffers the consequences now before he alters his life or that of another later.

Perhaps AGJr. is cringing quite a bit now about that little 11th hour revelation of W's 30-year-old DUI during the 2000 election. Boy, karma can be cruel.

This is classic. Al Gore's son arrested for driving a "high"brid car that apparently uses marijuana for fuel while setting up Live Earth concerts to stop global warming.

Wait? Weren't Cheech and Chong doing this back in the 70's?

"100 miles an hour and stoned."

In all fairness, none of what I've read actually says he was under the influence at the time. He was arrested for possession of a number of controlled substances but not for DUI. Again, I could be wrong, but this is my understanding. As someone who's prosecuted DUI's, there's nothing in any of the stories that sounds like a DUI investigation: no mention of field sobriety exercises and/or a breath or urine test.

"Drinking and driving is clearly not the same as drugging and driving..."

It's the same statute here in Florida; I expect it is in California as well, and it's just as potentially dangerous or in some cases more so, especially if you're mixing multiple drugs.

Don't worry all, AGIII will be in a cushy six figure job at daddy's carbon offset firm with his own gulfstream 4 that he will HAVE to use on occasion. The 50 trees he will plant to offset the co2 he belches into father sky will only need 60-70 years to take effect. Sleep tight Gore family.
