We *Might* Name Iran's Military A Terrorist Group

Good. Maybe then we can stop with this 'having tea' nonsense and actually ask them out to dinner. After all, being a 'terrorist group' is much more intense and deserves more serious attention.

U.S. may soon label Iran Guard "terrorist"

The United States may soon name Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps a foreign terrorist group, said U.S. officials on Wednesday, reflecting frustration over Tehran's nuclear program and suspected role in Iraqi violence.

The designation would be the first time the United States has placed the armed forces of any sovereign government on its list of terrorist organizations and enables Washington to target the Iranian group's finances.

Iran experts and diplomats said the squeeze on financing for the Guards also was aimed at pacifying hard-liners within and outside the Bush administration who want military action against Tehran and are frustrated that diplomatic pressure has not worked either on curbing the nuclear program or over Iraq.

Gee, after the 1979 hostage taking, one would have thought we had been targeting Iran's finances all along. Silly me. And the notion that this act is to pacify normal people who want to strike Iran--that sounds about right.

Only in D.C. is it possible to believe that calling something by another name changes what it is.
Well- maybe in academia

Iranian assets had been frozen in the US since 1979. Being on the State Dept Terrorism List (to my understanding) will mostly affect foreign monies as it would mean that there would be diplomatic, economic, and/or legal consequences for foreign countries and companies to continue financing them. Thus, countries or companies who would continue to do business or give money to the RevGuards are now legally considered "Terrorist Sponsors", which is why it is no small thing to add a group to this list.

Fascinating how the media keep forgetting that Iran's leaders, during the Carter hostage crisis, literally declared war on America. No Iranian leader since has renounced this declaration of war.

To whatever degree any American president is willing to recognize that we are at war with those who believe they are at war with us, and are actually killing our citizens and acting against our interests (as Iran has been doing since Jimmy Carter), we must be thankful for small favors. When we actually take action against those who are killing us, it's a small miracle.

How much of the money targeted by this move was/will be still within our reach after this move was reported by the New York Times and Washington Post and confirmed by the State Department BEFORE the designation was officially completed?

Iran, our enemy? Noooooooooo! Who'd a thunk it?

Quick, "surgical" strikes on the Medusa-like head of this monster, and we very likely would have the kind of popular support and uprising in Iran that some incorrectly forecast would happen in far more diverse Iraq in 2003. Actually, it's pretty simple, when you get right down to it: let Iran get "the bomb," or take the Islamofascists out before they can acquire even the first one. I can see no "third way."

Too little too late. Another example of the spineless creature Bush and his administration have become.
What happened to all of the aggressive talk and pronouncements made right after 9-11?
