A message from Pat S.
****
The message from the American people was border security first and it doesn’t make one damn bit of difference to these politicians! The trouble with conservatives is they think once the point has been won, it’s over. Remember all the glee about this won’t be back for at least two years? We have to battle every single day!
The L.A. Times story says the central conflict in the failed comprehensive bill was a path to legalization for illegals. That’s because we kept harping on amnesty which to me was a secondary matter. The central issue is border security. Nothing else should be considered until that is accomplished. Crackdowns and deportations, even though only for show, are useless without a secure border.
By the time Congress is done with piecemeal legislation, every conceivable life condition will make an illegal eligible for legal status. The magnet isn’t just jobs. Freebies are increasing. Chris Dodd wants to give La Raza $25 mil just for Hispanics. Republicans and Democrats will get into a bidding war with our money to win over the Hispanic vote.
What will it take to stop this? This issue should be a guaranteed win for a Republican in ’08.
Congress quietly returns to immigration [This article requires a log-in to the L.A. Times. If you want to bypass compulsory registration for that site or the multitude of others that require it, go to www.bugmenot.com for anonymous registrations.]
Three months after Congress failed to pass a broad immigration overhaul, lawmakers are quietly returning to the hot-button issue, discussing narrower measures that address illegal immigrants and low-skilled laborers.
Deported criminals slip back into U.S.
Thousands of previously deported criminals are caught trying to slip back into the United States, and it’s likely thousands more return unnoticed. Those caught are eventually kicked out again, making for a revolving door of lawbreakers.
Tarrant County to consider giving immigrants indigent care
Now the Tarrant County Hospital Board of Managers is considering whether to allow illegal immigrants to receive free or low-cost nonemergency medical care. The board is expected to debate the issue and possibly decide Tuesday.
And last but not least, $25 million dollars for La Raza.

We should also be be aware that H.R. 1645, a.k.a. Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act of 2007 (STRIVE), has been revived. The House held six weeks of hearings on H.R. 1645 earlier this year but halted subcommittee discussion pending the outcome of S.1348. Apparently the outcome is irrelevant.
Here’s a readable summary of the bill and the bill itself.
There’s lots of blather about border security which we know is written in disappearing ink and then it goes into guestworkers, H-2C, etc. Something to keep in mind about a guestworker program is that we have no exit program in place (may require registration).
There’s a video of the 9/6 subcommittee hearing. Another hearing was held last week.
Tarrant County already gives free medical care to illegal aliens for all practical purposes. When my granddaughter was sick a few years ago I went to the hospital with her parents at midnight. The people in the emergency room almost all spoke Spanish, and most couldn’t speak English. I asked the nurse about it and she said they were there for routine things, not emergencies. One boy was there for dialysis. The nurse said his family had brought him to Ft. Worth because he couldn’t get treatment in Mexico. The Mexican Council here has been complaining that the hospitals here don’t have enough Spanish speakers on staff, and he is afraid that the non-English speakers may not be getting proper treatment.
By hook or by crook GWB will force his amnesty on us!
This has nothing to do with this topic, but I think it is important enough to write.
Today is the 145th anniversary of The Battle of Antietam, or for you in the south, The Battle of Sharpsburg. In just 12 short hours between sunrise and sunset, 23,000 Americans fell. It remains the single bloodiest day in our history. There were 12,000 casualities in just one square mile during the first five hours of battle. Disjointed and uncoordinated attacks from Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and George B. McClellan’s Army of the Potomac accounted for the carnage.
I say that to say this. September 17, 1862 affected American History. President Lincoln had decided to change course from fighting the Civil War with the goal of restoring the Union only to fighting it to restore the Union free from slavery. He wished to announce his intent of issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, but he required a Union victory to do so, and while militarily Antietam was a draw, it did force Lee out of Maryland and back into Virginia. What Lee was attempting to do in 1862, he would try again in the summer of 1863. He was stopped at Gettysburg only after another 51,000 fell.
With a victory at hand, Linclon did announce to the nation the Emancipation Proclamation, and for the first time in our history, the principles and rights written in the Declaration of Independence would apply to all Americans. It changed history and began the slow process or reshaping this nation.
We need to remember and honor the sacrifice made 145 years ago today.
Just imagine if our government had spent the last 6 years making border security a genuine priority. What if “Duncan Hunter’s” fence had been completed, illegals being (rounded up and) sent back weren’t waltzing back over and first-timers weren’t getting that first chance. What if we actually had control over, at least, our Southern border?
I think I can safely say that this would be a different, safer, richer, BETTER America today. And damn all the politicians who haven’t done right by us.
Pat S!
You are my new guru…lol. Seriously, thank you so much for posting this important info! Or shall I say, thanks for sending it to Tammy to post! This issue is one that sends me to the moon and the stalling tactics and prolonged debate over the obvious is infuriating!
We have made our wishes known to Washington, yet they do the equivalent of giving us the middle finger. All the while we keep posting about it, talking about it, complaining about it, faxing and phoning our representatives, etc., but nothing ever seems to change. How much longer are we all willing to take this crapola?
Everyone was elated that we seemingly defeated the Shamnesty bill, but I knew after the dust settled that the fervor would die down and the open borders crowd would come back with another sneaky back door plan to push through their agenda to destroy America. Instead of using the political capital and momentum we had achieved to DEMAND enforcement, most of us (not me) settled back in and thought they could breathe easy for a while. BIG mistake.
May I say to everyone reading this; if this isn’t reason enough to vote correctly for a true conservative in 2008, I surely don’t know what is!
Tammy, thanks for giving us a forum to voice our opinion. Not that the demonicrats would do with their “fairness baby milk factory doctrine.” This is exactly why nearly all Americans (I did my own pol!!) distrust the congress and why they have such a low rating. Next time you see one of these spineless, lying, sorry-excuses of human dung come around begging you for you vote, take the damn time and check their voting record!! To me the illegal problem in this country IS the ISSUE. I am a one issue voter this time around and if I get wind that any of these R or D’s waffle about the illegals, they will not get my vote! TAKE A HIKE!!!
