On Tammy Radio: Jim Brossard, The Vet Who Cut Down The Mexican Flag

renoflag.jpg

Thanks to Jim, that Mexican flag is down, and the Stars and Stripes is back to her rightful place.

UPDATE: Finally more national attention. Here's video of Jim on Fox's Neil Cavuto show.

In an act of great patriotism, Jim Brossard, Vietnam vet and bus driver in Reno, Nevada, took personal action when he saw a Mexican flag flying over the Stars and Stripes, which is in fact a federal crime. Jim decided that couldn't stand, so he cut the Mexican flag down. It is this sort of individual act, simple and right, symbolic and actual, that has kept Old Glory flying throughout our history. We salute Jim, and thank him from the bottom of our hearts.

Here is Channel 4 KRNV's original coverage of the incident, and click here for video of Jim and the situation at Breitbart.

The sight of a Mexican flag flying above the American flag is just sickening. On the other hand, I am glad to see such a clear illustration of why it is important to demand that immigrants come to the country legally, learn the language, laws and culture, and renounce any loyalty to their former home.

As annoying as seeing this may be, no one has the right to go onto someone else's property and mess with someone else's stuff. These are the rights patriots have bled and died for, and they MUST be defended, even against silly perceived offenses like this.

Better would have been to call immigration and have them give these folks a little visit and a free ride home.

[It is a federal crime to fly any other flag above the Stars and Stripes. The flagpole is on public property. A federal crime is not a "perceived offense," it is a real thing and a serious crime. They're lucky the only thing that happened was their crime being rectified.--ed.]

HIP HIP HOORAY for Jim Brossard!!!!

he could give our politicians a little lesson in
patriotism, but they wouldn't want to ruin their political careers...

Jim Brossard encompasses exactly what it means to be an American: being an individual who takes a stand and acts on it because it's the right thing to do, and who serves as an inspiration to all of us - an ordinary person doing an extraordinary thing.

Maybe Brossard should consider a run for the '08 presidency! :)

Those we have elected to office as 'leaders' sure could learn a LOT from an individual who really is a true leader.

Thank you editor (is that you, Jim?) for correcting the poster who called this a 'silly perceived offense'.

Jim Brossard is a great American with the balls to do what was right! God bless him!

You can count on the fact that if I ever see a Mexican (or any other) flag flying over Old Glory, I will do the exact same thing.

Proper flag protocol provides that the ONLY time one national flag flies above another on the same flagstaff is when one country has defeated the other in war: perhaps the most famous and dramatic example was the Union Jack flying above the red-white-black of the captured battleships of the German High Seas Fleet as the Royal Navy escorted them across the North Sea and into Scapa Flow in the Scottish Highlands to be formally surrendered at the end of the First World War.

Suffice it to say, under that protocol, the Stars and Stripes has most definitely never flown subordinate to the Mexican flag (although the contrary did happen in the 1840's).

I echo the positive sentiments here concerning Jim Brossard. What a terrific example. Hope the WORLD was watching.

(As an aside, want to thank DaveJ for his keen, legal insights into the topics of the day. Always appreciate what you have to offer.)

(And, I love when "ed." sets the record straight. You often elicit a "Yeah! Take that!" from me. Tammy sure knows how to pick 'em.)

How long will it be before Karl Rove's gang puts Jim in the Fed Pen with the Border Agents who have tried to protect America?
A year, 2 years?

Can't wait for the "Look at that bigoted, jingoistic, hate-filled person destroying a proud flag of that POOR HARD WORKING MEXICAN!!!" babble from the usual suspects. This guy makes me proud to be an American. If you didn't think they had contempt for the US before, does anyone still believe that now? Wake up now America for we are being devoured from the inside out by political correctness. I feel a new civil war a brewin' and I am locked and loaded if it comes to that.

Posted by: josai [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 4, 2007 03:45 PM

Kimj7157, I am deeply flattered: you are far too kind. I'm just another prosecutor toiling in the trenches, overworked and underpaid. ;-)

Not to nit-pick but the bar's flagpole has no flags on it at all right now. It's about two miles from my work. The anchor lines for the flags are just lying there on the ground.
