Great guy. Now let’s put him in the Senate.
Tom Tancredo Drops Out of Presidential Race, Endorses Mitt Romney
Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo announced Thursday that he is dropping out of the race, and that he will endorse rival Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination.
He made his announcement at a news conference in downtown Des Moines, two weeks before Iowa begins the presidential nominating process with the caucuses Jan. 3….On Thursday, Tancredo said: “While several of the candidates appear to be committed to our cause, there are others whose records as public servants are abysmal on this issue. They have been on the other side of the battle for years and encouraging and even inviting, in a way, illegal immigrants into the country. I fear that remaining in this race, when I know I cannot win, could contribute to the nomination of one of those candidates. We have done too much. We have come too far. The stakes are way too high for me to allow that to happen.â€
“And so today I’m doing two things that I believe are in the best interests of this cause, and that cause is, of course, a secure America. I am withdrawing from the race and I’m endorsing Governor Romney for president of the United States,†Tancredo continued.
As I noted earlier, let’s hope he runs for the senate.
Hot Air has commentary as well, noting that Huckanut was a factor in Tom’s decision. Essentially, he felt votes for him could go to someone who was not pro-amnesty, endorsing Romney as a way to help get rid of Huckanut, a pro-amnesty freak who’s pretending not to be. Knowing Tom, this makes sense considering his commitment has always been first to country.

Even though I’m for Rudy, I truly admire Congressman Tancredo. I really hope that his supporters avoid the pro-amnesty shills named McCain and Huckabee. If that means Mitt, so be it. (I’m still hoping some end up backing Rudy, however.)
TANCREDO for “Secretary of DHS!!”
He’s always said he entered the Presidential race to get the nation talking about “Illegal Immigration”.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!! Thank You Tom!!
It has to be a gut punch for Thompson. He portrays himself as the conservative candidate. I wonder if his endorsement of Romney will have more influence on undecideds than on Tancredo supporters.
The Republican machine won’t let us get Hucked. Giulianni is ebbing. The reality of Thompson is nothing like the dream. McCain is on the upswing. EEK! Romney is getting the blessings of the holy fathers. To me none of them seem worthy of the job. I feel like I’m watching peewee hockey.
I’ve posted this at more than just this blog, but I definitely do not work for Romney’s campaign. I want some conservatives, who I feel haven’t given Mitt a fair shake thus far (including you Tammy), to seriously reconsider their positions. Romney is clearly now the anti-illegal immigration candidate. What candidate can win the support of ALL conservatives…fiscal, defense, AND social? Mitt’s the man!
DaveP35:
Romney has my attention & my respect. I would be pleased/proud to call him my President. An endorsement from Tancredo holds weight for those of us involved and/or concerned with open borders.
May the best man win!!
I was heartbroken when I heard about this, but I can see why Tom got out of the race. Even in this action, he is putting his country first. He is a patriot and a man of principles and the one guy I felt I could really support, with no compromises. I suppose he chose Romney over Hunter, because Hunter was in the same position as he was in not being able to get into the top tier.
The candidates that are on the Republican side (EXCEPT for Tancredo and Hunter) are disappointing at best. This reflects the move to the left in general by the Republican party and mainstream America. That is what is truly troubling for me. The fact that the likes of McCain or Huckabee (and even Giuliani as far as I’m concerned, although he is a tad better) are even considered by conservative leaning voters is unbelievable to me.
I do wonder about Thompson though. he seems far more conservative than Romney but perhaps his past record doesn’t reflect this. It seems I do recall hearing about an iffy record on illegal immigration from Thompson, but hasn’t Romney also not been steadfast on this issue? Perhaps that is one of his flip flops.
In any event, I am sad to see that my guy, Tom Tancredo couldn’t get any traction. I would have thought he would have been a slam dunk. And again, this just goes to show you how most people have their heads in the sand and don’t comprehend the severity of their inaction and ignorance.
I’m for Rudy – there is something patently insincere about Mitt Romney although I would vote for him against Hillary.
Personally at this point I could vote for either Romney or Giuliani. Rudy says his come to jesus moment was 9-11 that changed thing like gun control for him and I can credibly believe that. Abortion is not a hot issue for me. I am anti abortion except for rape, incest or mothers life. But I think it works better if I teach my kids that and that sex makes babies. So don’t want a baby don’t have sex.
Both seem to be very in sync with the border issue. I’d like to know if they would be pardoning Ramos and Campeon.
