On Fox This Morning Re Thompson's Ambition Issue

The segment will air sometime between 10:20am ET and 10:40am ET (7:20-7:40am PT). We'll take a look at exactly what's happening here, which, IMHO involves Thompson being honest about what has been apparent, and then his attempt to backtrack. There is also word he will drop out by Friday, which I highly doubt. Iowa doesn't really matter in the larger scheme of things while New Hampshire will be key for many. At that point everyone will have to access how much money they have and if they can even can compete in Florida on January 29, let alone Super Tuesday February 5.

Hope you can tune in :)

UPDATE:

Allah at Hot Air was kind enough to post the segment, along with a comment or two about the Fred dilemma, and Bob Beckel being a jerk. Look, folks, we've witnessed Fredhead meltdowns and Beckel, a usually nice guy, taking a gratuitous personal shot, and we haven't even been through Iowa yet. At this rate, 2008 is going to be one hell of a year.

The Washington Times, via Stacy McCain, has also chimed in on the Fred question, with video from this morning in their coverage.

Once again, Tammy, great presence on Fox this morning. I only hope you're wrong. I am so holding out for Thompson. I just don't know what will stoke the fire in his belly, a point you made that is absolutely necessary for any leader in these times. I sadly agree with you that it's missing.

I saw your appearance on Fox, and I have to disagree with your take on Fred Thompson's apparent lack of "fire in the belly", vis-a-vis his Presidential ambitions. My own view is that it is precisely this lack of consuming ambition that makes me lean more towards Fred than before.

I am one of those who believes that anyone who seeks a position of power should under no circumstances be allowed to have it. The fact that Fred Thompson says he doesn't particularly want the job makes him a particularly appealing candidate. (By the same token, I think that William Tecumseh Sherman would have made a spectacular President, precisely because he didn't want the job).

You're right about the presidency being a constant campaign. I can imagine President Thompson perpetually in whine mode over the rigors of the office reminding us he was never really big on the idea in the first place.

Tammy,

Long before hearing him announce his candidacy and before the rumors of it, I heard him speak at policy forums on CSPAN. I admired him then as I do now in his recent message to Iowa Caucus voters posted on YouTube.

He's got the fire. It's just located in the leadership arena. I'm no expert in political positioning and jockeying but, I know a good message when I hear one. Your objection to his laid back attitude about competing for the nomination may be a valid disquality but, I like his message here as I have before.

Good work Tammy. I would love to see you fill in for Hannity or even O'Reilly.

Top form, Tammy. I do think Thompson "has the goods" to be a great president, but he hasn't shown much of those goods and has to AT LEAST do that. Extremely disappointing. (I'm still holding out a little hope that he'll do SOMETHING to get into this race.) I do understand your point about his apparent ambivalence. Forget about the campaigning. I just would have liked him to make a hearty attempt at merely communicating with us.

I'd like to give Beckel a good bop. What a boob.

(And for the record, I would rest easy if you ever WERE the President. Seriously.)

Good show, Tammy. Your analysis of Fred has been on the mark since he first announced. And you're right about 2008. We aren't even past Iowa. And after that, it's still a long way until the conventions or November. Take a deep breath!

Thank you for all your hard work in 2007, much appreciated. And to Tammy and all the peeps, a very sincere happy new year!

I am not a fan of the jowely Beckel but I think he was just doing a ham handed attempt at being glib. Several weeks ago you had a great put down of him when you said something about the mushroom cloud over Jerusalem proving Iran was serious about using muclear weapons
