Tancredo To Drop Out of Presidential Race

The man who single-handedly brought the illegal immigration debacle into the national spotlight will announce tomorrow he is dropping out of the presidential race. I’ve met Tom on a number of occasions, and he’s been a guest on my show many times. Regardless of whether or not you agree with his politics, I can tell you he’s a great guy. He truly cares about our nation and I know whatever he chooses to do, he’ll make a difference.

Tom Tancredo to Drop Out of Presidential Race

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo plans to drop out of the race during an announcement Thursday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP sources close to the campaign have told FOX News.

Tancredo, who has aggressively pushed his anti-illegal immigration message throughout the GOP primary race, has not been able to break through in the polls against his better known competitors. He and California Rep. Duncan Hunter typically poll in the single digits behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul in national surveys.

Tancredo would not personally confirm whether he will pull out of the race.

“I will neither confirm nor deny that report,” Tancredo told FOX News. But he added, “I wouldn’t have a press conference if I didn’t have anything to say.”

Another stalwart on illegal immigration, Rep. Peter King of New York, endorsed Fred Thompson this week. The question now becomes, who will Tom endorse? My guess is Thompson as well.

Tom has also announced he will not run for another term in the House. This does leave open, however, a run for the Senate. Let’s hope he does, because no matter who is elected president in ‘08, illegal immigration will remain an issue, and we’re going to need as many allies on the issue as possible in Congress.

I, too, hope he runs for Senate. We need his clear and consistent voice of reason on immigration.

Thanks for the kind words about Congressman Tancredo, Tammy. Being a Tancredo supporter, it’s a shame things turned out the way it did. Hopefully, he’ll run for the Senate. We need people like him in Washington.
