Ron Paul: The Racist, Sexist Homophobe 'Libertarian'?

Covered in most political places on nets, Pajamas has coverage of the New Republic's expose on a man who has been dismissed merely as the Crazy Uncle. Well, now he is being portrayed as the Crazy Closed-Minded Troofer Bigot Uncle.

You all should know I am not a fan of Paul. His ludicrous attitude about world affairs can be summed up with his comment in one of the early debates that the September 11th hijackers weren't associated with any group or country. He is a ridiculous man offering an absurd worldview. Read the New Republic article completely as opposed to allowing some blog coverage to determine your understanding of what this is. Some of his quotes are questionable, some simple are not. Politically incorrect, yes, but reflective of every "ism" in world? I don't think so.

Ron Paul Bigotry Revolution

A damning New Republic expose on Ron Paul shows the “libertarian” Republican candidate to be a racist, a homophobe and an anti-Semite. Will his diehard supporters continue to defend a man who called Martin Luther King a gay pedophile? Daniel Koffler, a former Paul sympathizer, has a compendium of the Texas congressman’s creepiest hits, pulled straight from his decades-old newsletter.

James Kirchick of the New Republic has a devastating piece on Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) online today on the TNR website. Kirchick provides a meticulously detailed history of the “Ron Paul Political Report,” a newsletter Paul had circulated to a network of some 7,000 subscribers from the late 80s and early 90s.

As Kirchick reports—whether describing post-apartheid South Africa as a “destruction of civilization,” alleging that Martin Luther King “seduced underage girls and boys,” warning of “tens of thousands of well-placed friends of Israel in all countries who are willing to wok [sic] for the Mossad in their area of expertise,” or urging white readers to arm themselves after “the first skirmish in the race war of the 1990s,”—virtually every historic trope of racism, anti-Semitism, anti-gay bigotry, or conspiracy theorizing has been featured in the “Ron Paul Political Report” in one way or another. For his part, Paul has alternately acknowledged writing some of the material that went out under his name, only to deny authorship when confronted with the most disturbing details. In any case, Paul has taken “moral responsibility” for the contents of the “Ron Paul Political Report.” What follows is a quick digest of some of his greatest, which is to say most disgraceful, hits.

Click through to see various pull-quotes from the "Ron Paul Political Report." I always caution you to take with a grain of salt comments that are taken out of a larger context, as you should here. Some quotes, while politically incorrect, are not "sexist," such as:

“[Hillary Clinton] is one of the most dangerous women in public life. Not only is she a fanatical abortion advocate, she wants parents to register with the government as a condition for having children to be able to sue and `divorce’ themselves from their parents. Maybe her daughter ought to sue her parents for attempting to raise her as a leftist. That sure qualifies as abuse to me.”

Or "conspiracy" based, like this:

“The Earth Summit is the creepiest meeting of politicos since the first gathering of Bolsheviks. Officially known as the UN Conference for Environment and Development, it will be held in Brazil in June; bad guys from all over the globe will attend.”

So, please read the actual New Republic article linked to in the first graph of this post and come to your own conclusion. Some of the quotes on race are troubling. Some more shocking than others, but overall you get a very specific sense of where the man is coming from.

Ron Paul is also a huge anti Semite as well. He was one of a small handful of Congressmen who did not sign a resolution supporting Israel in the war with Hezbollah in 2006. There is something almost evil about that man with his Buchananite paleo con friends such as Scott McConnell, Justin Raimondo, and the creepy Alex Jones.

The New Republic article was disturbing. The only caveat I have is the absence of bylines for the pieces in the various Ron Paul newsletters. As Kirchick noted in the New Republic piece, without the byline we can't know if Paul is the author.

However, he was the force behind these newsletters and they ultimately bear his stamp of approval. The same can be said for the people with whom he associates. I'm particularly disturbed by David Duke linking Paul on his website and Paul's connection to Gary North and the Christian Reconstructionism movement. Execution for women who've had abortions and people who curse their parents?! Wow.

We are judged by the company we keep.

Jeebus, and the Ron Paul supporters are all over Manhattan these days, putting bumper stickers all over everything (including traffic signs, which I believe is illegal).

I was ambushed by a group of them a couple of weeks ago. Their support borders on cult-like fanaticism (something I eagerly pointed out to them), not mere political support.

Thankfully, most of them are busy trolling the internet with the rest of the maniacs.

Check out Randy Andy Sullivan trying to give Ron Paul and the Paulistinians the benefit of the doubt (something he would never give the President).
