"Fitna"

A post by Maynard

I had earlier noted the imminent release Dutch politician Geert Wilders' short film "Fitna". The release was obstructed by threats of violence and concerns of possible legal repercussions (since freedom of speech can be legally curtailed in Europe; they have no 1st Amendment protection). Many worldwide leaders are condemning the film for its claim that Islamic terrorism is linked to Islamic doctrine.

The original American web server that agreed to carry the film backed out (this being the same operation that had found no problem in hosting the Hezbollah website). LiveLeak then picked up the display, and it was posted on March 27; however it was only available briefly before being removed. In its place, this message appeared:

The Removal of "Fitna" Official LiveLeak statement.

Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could affect the safety of some staff members, LiveLeak has been left with no other choice but to remove "Fitna" from our servers.

This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realized LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.

Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one another's culture.

We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.

So "Fitna" ended up on YouTube. Click to view the English-subtitled Part 1 and Part 2. The 15-minute film consists of verses from the Koran interspersed with violent media clips. (Here is an abridged 10-minute version without the Netherlands-specific material).

Some will argue that warnings such as this are overstated, in that only a small minority of Muslims participate in violence. This may be true, but the essential problem is that the greater Islamic culture is failing to put its house in order. Here in the West, we are constantly reminded (and reminded and reminded and reminded again) of non-violent options. Have you ever seen a report of any sort of Islamic peace rally?

Theo van Gogh was murdered and Hirsi Ali went into hiding for their participation in the film "Submission"; meanwhile people such as Andres Serrano (creator of the notorious "Piss Christ" and other revolting works of "art") merely find their government grants contested.

As disgusted as we may be by some of our compatriots, we should be grateful to live in a culture where we can be challenged by words and respond with words. And, as people like Wilders and van Gogh are reminding us at the risk of their lives, the rest of the world can be a murderously intolerant place.

The sad fact is and will always be those who speak the truth will be persecuted. When it comes to the issue of Islam the religion actively promotes murder of non-Islamics. Which makes the only peace Islam is interested in the kind of peace you rest in. Yet our leaders still call it the religion of peace as if labeling this death cult peaceful makes it a fact.

I just watched the Fitna clip for the first time. It only shows what modern Islam really is. It and more like it are needed. I pray that the reporters and producers stay strong and are not intimidated. Our grandfathers resisted the Axis, our fathers resisted Communism, and this generation is given a choice. Resist Islam or become a part of it.

These people don't want truth to be known. They hide their manipulations under the guise of: our poor stupid masses will misinterpret the film, and lash out against all muslims. They don't mention that you have to look hard to find a "mainstream Muslim" that will condem the acts and deeds of the radicals. Probably not safe to do so. I commend U-Tube.

The best way to distribute the film is to use the trick that some underground film distributors use. Place the film in 8 or so parts on thousands of "peer" servers under thousands of fragment names, so that when someone views the movie, it loads from 20, or 30 different servers and winds up on your computor as one. Then after viewing, you can save it as a new file, allow access to the fragments so someone else can pick it up, or just zap it.

Joseph Campbell who recorded many lectures in his "Transformations of Myth through Time" series, repeated the story of Lucifer as traditionally told by Shiite Muslims. In it God tells his angels to place humanity above him so that they should serve humanity first before God. Lucifer refuses insisting that nothing and no one will stand between him and God. For this transgression Lucifer, the lone dissenting angel, is cast out of heaven by God. Ironically those who chat "Akbar Allah" while inciting or perpetrating their many inhumane deeds are in truth by their own definition followers of Lucifer.

In the film, "Fitna," we can see the vile puss of hatred emanating directly though the words of assorted Imams and other leaders of Islamic jihad, the very same hatred which they wish to conceal from their targets worldwide.

Some additional reading on the subject. Geert Wilders Is No Right-Wing Populist

The label "right-wing populist" resonates negatively today the same way that "communist" did in the '50s and '60s, "fascist" did in the '70s and '80s and "climate change denier" does today...
