Obama's Lack of Respect for the National Anthem

Now makes a bit more sense with the Jeremiah Wright background. If you haven't seen it before, here's video of him refusing to place his hand over his heart for the anthem. It's an easy thing to do, and reflects a very certain respect for this nation. To not engage in such a small gesture of respect is petty and illustrates a remarkable contempt. Interestingly, it also seems he feels the need to protect his gonads from the anthem. Yeah, let's elect this guy.

Oh, my. If I were a guy I might feel the need to protect my gonads from that gawdawful rendition of the National Anthem.

;)

That makes me (probably disproportionately) angry.

Although, I think I'd have put my hands over my ears.

How disingenuous of you to criticize somebody for not doing something which is NOT customarily done. PERIOD. It is not only not "required" to validate your patriotism all that is required is to face the flag, which he appears to be doing. Most people do not do it. Go to a ball game, it's not done.

It is customary to place your hand over your heart while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. It makes sense to place your hand over your heart while pledging your allegiance to your country.

I have more of an issue with the rendition of the National Anthem. It is NOT a gospel song. There is no room for "artistic license". It is a difficult song as it is written. DEAL WITH IT! Show it the respect it is due! No need to place your hand on your heart, feel free if you want to though. It's still a free country.(for now)

I don't know what ball games you go to BigDaddy, but people put their hands over their hearts during our national anthem at every game I've ever been too.

[Seems that Obama was busy with his private ballgame, if you know what I mean. —Maynard]

For the record, the Flag Code states:

During a rendition of the national anthem ... all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

Obviously my concern is for his showcase of disrespect, rather than for his technical breach of the law.

I flat out don't like the guy. But at the same time I do not see this as an issue.

I judge a person by their actions, not the motions they go through in front of others. Placing his hand over his heart means as much about his patriotism as someone wearing a rhinestone flag lapel pin. It means about as much about someone's patriotism as someone strutting about carrying a bible in a manner that the cameras are sure to pick up. (I refer here to WJ Clinton, a past President).

"How disingenuous of you to criticize somebody for not doing something which is NOT customarily done. PERIOD." Bigdaddy.

Oh really? It's NOT customary for those running to be PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES to take EVERY opportunity to visibly demonstrate their pride and honor and patriotism.

And so what if Tammy Bruce doesn't like Obama's public obduracy in making a statement?

It is NOT disingenuous to find something unpleasant whether or not you think it's "customary."

Wow, it's not like Obama is trying to attract voters who DO THINK it's important to respect the National Anthem. Oh hang on HE IS!

Tell you what bigdaddy, you can keep you opinion. PERIOD. It's a typical lefty slash liberal piece of mendacity.

But I think the more we learn about Obama the more of a standard socialist jerk this guy looks.

If I may speak for Tammy, as well as for myself, the issues are:
1. A candidate who seeks to be president of ALL the people should at least pretend to show respect for the country he wants to be president of.
2. As Tammy mentions, it's his narcissistic, childish and petty need to show his disrespect that irks. In this, he reveals himself to be on the same page as his wife, who's only discovered a pride in her country...because Hubby might be elected. Talk about narcissism.

I hadn't read the U.S. Code on this, but I was educated by Catholic nuns who were no slouches in the patriotism department. We were taught to put hand over heart for the Pledge and stand at attention during the National Anthem.

Next baseball game I'm at I'll take a closer look at what others are doing. I do know that Dodger employees won't let you in the gate or serve you food while the National Anthem is playing. I've always thought that was kind of cool.

Obama could be murdering children on live television and there will still be some lefties out there defending him.
