McCain Suggests Gas Tax Holiday

And other fantastic tax and economic measures. These are the proposals that illustrate the dynamic difference between Marxists (Obama and Clinton) and a man who at least isn't a leftist, and might even be pulled back into the Authentic Conservative framework if we demand it aggressively enough. For whatever his reasons, these proposals reflect the conservative principle of keeping government accountable and spending and taxes low, or at least lower. I need to see more details, but this is a good start.

McCain plan to target tax code, gas prices

An end to earmarks, a gas-tax holiday, government-backed mortgages -- they're all part of an economic-revival plan that a top aide to GOP Sen. John McCain described Tuesday as "big and ambitious." The presumed Republican nominee also wants to create an alternative system for paying income taxes and double the income tax exemption for dependents, McCain said during a Tuesday speech at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

The senator from Arizona is proposing an income tax system that offers two basic rates and a "generous standard deduction," he said. McCain would let Americans choose between the new system and the present one...

The presidential candidate also called for doubling the federal income tax exemptions for dependents, from $3,500 to $7,000.

McCain said he wants Congress to declare a summer gas-tax holiday, suspending the 18.4-cent gas tax and 24.4-cent diesel tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day this year...As for Medicare, McCain plans to tweak the prescription drug benefit to exclude taxpayers who can afford medicine without government assistance...

Despite the promised assault on corporate loopholes, McCain said he would use the money saved via his proposals to ease the burden on employers by lowering the business income tax from 35 percent to 25 percent.

Finally! I've been saying for months (mostly to myself) that the biggest "windfall profits" from oil were being enjoyed by the government, and that if Congress wants a "solution" to high gas prices, they will allow the building of refineries and more US drilling in the long term, and suspend the gas tax in the short term.

There are many oil and gas companies, but only one federal government collecting 18.4% of every single gasoline purchase in the country.

Although I am always against increasing taxes, I am considering an exception...

Maybe Senator McCain could replace any lost revenue by imposing a Windfall Tax on Hollywood movies and movie stars -- on the GROSS of course.

This has a number of benefits..

#1. None of the major players in Tinsel Town is voting Republican anyway. So screw them.

#2. Hollywood is pretty well hated in fly-over country. And that includes all those bitter Penn. Dems.

#3. It will teach Big Movie a lesson and get them thinking, maybe they shouldn't be supporting a party which considers "wealth" starts at those who earn less than their Porsche.

MCAMNESTY IS A CAUSE OF OUR GAS PROBLEMS!

Tammy, Let's not forget McAmnesty was the deciding vote to prevent drilling in Anwar, so he is a major cause of our inability to develop alternate oil sources. I remember Alaska Senator Ted Stevens giving a speech in favor of drilling, showing a map of the Anwar area. The U.S. side was bare, but across the border on the Canadian side there must have been hundreds of Canadian oil rigs. So the Canadians drill the oil and sell it to us--40% of our imported oil is from them!!! Any reports about dead Canadian caribou choked by oil?

The answer is "NO", since they have the sense to walk around any problem! Didn't you just point out that the oil is actually seeping out of the ground on the U.S. side there is so much of it? McAmnesty would also oppose drilling off the Florida coast so he can watch the Chinese Communist "running dogs of capitalism" rigs being built off the coast of Cuba to drill more oil to sell us. And let's remember the blow his scheme will deliver to the infrastructure fund that DEPENDS (!) on that tax money. Have we forgotten the I-35W Minneapolis bridge collapse already? His Iraq war expense could have rebuilt our entire interstate system, bridges and all! I just can't understand why you are giving this sellout a pass on so many issues. This guy finished near the bottom of his Naval Academy class for a reason. With "friends" like him, who needs enemies?

IOWA PATN, politicians fear people like you; people that can read, remember, have critical thinking skills and a long attention span.

Let's just hope that Hillary and Obama will keep talking themselves out of an election...I knew that if enough time went by they would show their true colours...and to think, the show has really just started!!!
