Tammy, I'm so thankful that God chose to put me in this body, in this wonderful country, even in this time-frame, in spite of all the problems. Maybe you and I and others are given the task of fixing some of them. Daunting task but doable. I'm reminded of the commercial back in '76 for our 200th birthday. A drum major loudly proclaims "Happy Birthday America!" and leads the marching band down some street indicative of American cities. Indeed, Happy Birthday America! Though getting on in years and full of flaws, she's still the best on the planet, in spite of our critics. And we still can say, boldly, "if you don't like it, go find some place better. You won't". I've got family records back to 1775 in Virginia. Not about to give up on America. We can still change things, with God's help and Wisdom. Blessings to you Tammy, and to all...as old LBJ used to call us in his slow, Texas drawl..."Mah fellow 'Murricans"!

I've had John Adams on the brain lately. The HBO mini-series on him is excellent. Today, I spent a few hours enjoying the musical '1776' which was very well done. What a remarkable patriot. And he was married to one as well. What a confluence of great men and great minds at a great moment in history. We are truly the beneficiaries of that Spirit of '76.

I watched the entire naturalization ceremony that took place at Monticello. Can you think of a better setting? At the end of the ceremony, eight brand new Americans spoke briefly about what it means to them to be an American. The two words I heard most often were THANKFUL and PRIVILEGED. They get it. I am thrilled they now have the opportunity to lead a productive, happy, and peaceful life.

One other thing.....shortly before the ceremony began, three military helicopters flew over my home. Then I heard a louder rumble....it was Marine One!(President Bush was in attendance this year.) I got the same fly over shortly after it ended as well. I thought this was very cool, especially on the 4th of July.

Went to a brunch on the Fourth at my neighbors, about twelve people plus or minus.
How's this for the adult-unique? Our hosts passed around the Declaration of Independence and just about everyone got a paragraph or long sentence to read.
Pretty nice, I think.
