…you gotta first sell her as a woman…

Donny Deutsch is the host of the CNBC show The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch … Your Daily Roadmap to The American Dream. Donny is very excited about Sarah Palin. He calls the national debut of Sarah Palin a seminal moment in “the new creation of the feminist ideal”. The new feminist ideal includes getting men to wish they were next to you in bed.

“She [Palin] talked about energy. Didn’t matter! Today everybody’s running in circles – we want to have her over for dinner. I trust her. I want her watching my kids. I want her laying next to me in bed. That’s the way people vote.”

Now there’s a pig.

Cool. I think she does bring great ideas, if not perfect, into the mix. Also, the debate over all the aspects of “global warming” are not over, and should not be.

And…I have to be lenient with Obama. Maybe he didn’t mean to call Palin a pig. Even if innocent, it still was a dumb thing to say though, considering the climate of the election and Sarah’s lipstick comment.

Please, please gop. Don’t go after Obama about the lipstick/pig comment. We may look like whiners to some. The public will notice and the media will talk about it.

  2. Nonnie says:

You cracked me up! Yep, there’s a piggo and he doesn’t have a clue. 🙂

  3. DogOnCrack says:

I’ll be the first to say that Governor Palin is an attractive woman but that has nothing to do with why I’m voting for her.
I’d like to think that the majority of the electorate don’t cast their vote based merely on the “hot factor”.
That was always the accusation about women who voted for both Clinton and Bush.
I think it was bogus for the most part.

  4. jeweytunes says:

At least he has something attractive running up his leg, for a change — a real improvement for MSNBC.

  5. jeweytunes says:

Duh, CNBC. Hell it’s all NBC in the wash…

  6. Yankeeduck says:

Unlike what the writers and directors of commercial Hollywood believe, there are a lot of men out there that are not sex oriented mooks.
Sarah Palin will get my vote because she closely reflects what *I* believe in, and consider what is needed for our country. She also comes across as trustworthy, which is a vibe I don’t get from many candidates.
NBC/MSNBC/CNBC all are pretty worthless networks. Another reason to vote for McCain/Palin, when they go bankrupt maybe we wont have to bail out NBC too.

  7. DogOnCrack says:

    PMSDNC seems more fitting.

  8. usaguys says:

Every time I hear the New Yoarka Donny talk it reminds me that my decision to never hire New Yoarka’s was a good decision in my company. Opinionunated morons who think the center of the Universe is NY and NBC, when it is in fact the Arm pit of the world and liberal media respectivly.

  9. Young American says:

Who the hell are these people and where do they come from ?

  10. Talkin Horse says:

Q: What’s the difference between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin?
A: One has sagging breasts…and the other is Sarah Palin!

Thanks, I’m here all week. Try the cheese blintzes

    [LOL! – Pat].

  11. KatieSilverSpring says:

Thank you, Pat S, another confirmation of my not listening to those networks. Who the H*ll are these people? What kind of a jerk is Donny Deutsch? does he hear himself? does his wife? who pays their salaries? I mean, Jeez Louise, d people really lisen to these a–holes? Sorry, I don’t usually use this language but come on?!

I found myself this afternoon talking out loud to the TV broadcasting at the Bethesda Naval hospital pharmacy – CNN no less. I was patiently waiting for meds (antibiotics, for smart alecks who might think they know othewise). And the Navy people around me were also chiming in. But it was nothing like this clip.

Oh Lawd, I so worry if they gain the Presidency. Barack may think he is the candidate but these jerks will let him know who got him in place. And, as an aside, did anyone else wonder if the main anchor was sober? I sure did.

  12. KatieSilverSpring says:

Oh, forgot to add, my 17-year-old, who always complains that I only listen to talking heads who agree with me, said, as we were walking to the garage, they really need to get a fair and balanced network, not FOX or CNN, to broadcast there. I had to remind her that FOX is the one who is fair and balanced, but I was just happy that she saw on her own the bias in the CNN play.

  13. KatieSilverSpring says:

I am so sorry I can’t get all in one posting, I had to replay & replay the video clip.

I am so looking forward to seeing Todd Palin bust Obama in the mouth for what Barry said about his “lipsticked pig” wife, and, now, I hope Todd Palin has a chance to meet this Donny Deutsch.

I know Todd’s a gentleman but I also know there is a limit. I’m from the South and it’s just a woman’s due to have her man defend her. And, it’s her due to have real pigs be done with.

Sorry I can’t get over this stupid Donny Deutsch and how he thinks women must “present” themselves in the workplace. Talk about a step back in time, or in some neighborhood somewhere in the backwoods of the South or in the backwoods of New Jersey (or wherever this pig is from). (shivers) He seriously reminds me of Bill Clinton.

    Just a thought …

  14. LiveFreeOrDie says:

    “Now there’s a pig.”

We all are, Pat. And that’s never going to change.

We can be taught civilized behavior. We can actually respect women for things other than their sex appeal. But to get rid of the little jolt that comes from seeing a prime specimen, you’d have to sever the spinal cord. Hard Wired.

Yes, the guy is over the line. Far over the line. But primarily in the sense of what’s appropriate for public discourse. If you think otherwise, you don’t actually know or like men.

    Respectfully.

  15. RagingBullmoose says:

Uh, I watched the clip and I’m a bit puzzled by the general reaction around here.

The guy compared her to Reagan in a good way and what he said about both of them was true: These are the kind of people you want in your living room, these are the kind of people you want over for dinner, these are the kind of people you want watching your kids (ever occur to anyone here that if Sarah Palin becomes president one of her duties as CIC is going to be watching our kids in the broad national security sense? Sounds like a wringing endorsement to me.) The most important point he made was this one, and it’s the reason we loved Reagan and it’s the reason people love Palin: We TRUST her.

Also, how is his suggesting that she’s been able to rise to be the equal of men without sacrificing her femininity at the alter of pants-suits and earth-tones a negative? Am I the only one here who read Tammy’s books? She wrote extensively on the subject of rejecting the old feminist orthodoxies of trying to become the equal of men by rejecting their femininity. Sarah Palin apparently is of the same opinion as no less than our gracious hostess on this score. That’s an excellent point about her appeal on a primal level; men like her because she retains her feminine charms and combines them with all the same traits that men look for in male leaders. Before he ever mentioned that, he compared her favorably to Ronald Reagan. RONALD REAGAN!!!

Guess what? There’s a lot of us who are starting to view her that way, including The Gipper’s son Mike. When she speaks and I feel like I did when I was a kid growing up in the 80’s, watching and listening to Reagan: proud, safe, and optimistic. I trust this woman and I feel like she trusts me, which was also one of The Gipper’s great hallmarks; his belief in US, the American people and our potential for greatness and a confidence that left alone to pursue our own goals without interference from the government that we ALL could achieve that greatness, that we could all fufill that potential.

Only difference now is that instead of the figure on the TV speaking to me, believing in me, and trusting me to be the captain of my own destiny isn’t my idealized grandfather (I never knew either of my grandfathers, they both died before I was born) but rather my idealized woman: a strong, confident, principled, independent, intelligent, hard-working woman who also happens to be gorgeous.

And THAT is the point I think ‘ol Donny was trying to make.

I know that Obama’s verbal sewage of the last 24 hours has put a lot of people on the hair-trigger but gads, let’s not go LOOKING for things to be offended by.

Trust me, the rest of the media and Obama’s DNC and 527 hatchetmen will be providing plenty contemptible garbage for us to be offended by in short order.

  16. pat_s says:

    RagingBullmoose

He isn’t saying a woman can be feminine and succeed. He’s saying she MUST be feminine to succeed. Femininity is indispensable to a woman’s success under his concept of the new feminist ideal. You might find that a compelling argument but the conclusion he reaches is Hillary’s quest for the Presidency was doomed because she failed to wear a skirt. Intelligence, competence, objective qualifications are secondary if you’re a woman.

And is he really talking about some higher level concept of feminity? He’s talking about selling women to men by appealing to a “primal power”. Please! I’d say most women balk at the idea of selling themselves as desirable for bedding before they can hope to accomplish higher ambitions in business or politics. I must have misread Tammy’s books if she was suggesting otherwise.

It’s very nice he compared her to Reagan as trustworthy and likable. He should have stopped there. When he talks about primal power and wanting to share a bed, he’s adding a component of appeal that should not be there. It isn’t quite “just so happens” as you say. His whole point is based on sex appeal. I’m sure men see no problem with that. Women generally do. Did you notice the way the women on the show reacted? Don’t argue that sex appeal is undeniably a factor when it comes to men and women.. It is. Just don’t tell me a woman’s path to success depends on…on dear…wearing lipstick.

  17. jerocat says:

    Hey all,

Donny Deutsch is a New York “ad” man, as in advertising executive, a mass marketing and communications expert. He helps people sell things on a vast scale and, understands all the components of sales including sex appeal. His comments about the Sarah Palin “brand” resonating with the American public is just how he slices and dices the world. He’s left of center but not by much. He opposed the Iraq adventure not because he’s a nut job Marxist pacifist but because he thought “it cost too much” and “was not an effective use of our treasure.” He’s got a pretty good show on CNBC about how to build success in an entrepreneurial way. I recommend it.

    Anyway back to Sarah….
Please pass me some of that great apple pie.

  18. storytold says:

I have a feeling this will be my last comment! But here goes. What he said was definitely inappropriate but not unique to Donny Deutch. I’m fairly certain that many people, male and female, are having the same thoughts about Sarah Palin but perhaps are too scared to express them publicly. And to all my fellow men, stop apologizing for the way you feel about women. Stand up and be counted as a man. I don’t mean we should denegrate women but if you think she’s hot,say it! Tammy herself is never shy about posting pictures of scantilly clad ladies and vowing to capture them with a net if they escape into the wild! https://tammybruce.com/2007/10/new_species_create.php#comments

Pat_S…does that make Tammy a pig? Or does that feminist label apply only to men? The only thing that Donny did wrong was saying what he did on national TV,on a serious news program. But rest assured,a whole lot of folks are thinking the exact same thing as Mr. Deutch.

    Good day!

  19. pat_s says:

My objection to his remarks is primarily the fact he is advising women to make themselves sexually appealing to men in order to be successful in business and politics. The fact that men find women attractive is not news. What he is talking about and what is being defended by some of you isn’t “the new creation of the feminist ideal”. It’s as old as creation and one of the reasons the feminist movement got started in the first place.

Women should be judged on their merits for a job without having to pass the whistle test. He is saying women should first make themselves appealing to men as women in order to be successful. I’m a big girl and realize men like women who appeal to that primal power Donny’s talking about. I’m not suggesting that should somehow be stopped. I’m all for it in the proper settings. That isn’t in the workforce or in politics.

  20. Nonnie says:

For the several guys who didn’t seem to get the “That’s a pig” statement.

Women are JUST as hardwired to respond to attractiveness as women. NONE OF US are just a bunch of genitals walking around. Come on now, stop being defensive. It was the WAY in which this guy responded that was piggish. You said so yourself.

His message was feminity is the way to success for women. THAT, in itself, is bigotry. What if we said no people with good looks need apply? How low can we sink now? Unfortunately, if a woman doesn’t want to wear a lot of makeup or wear a dress, she is seen as masculine. We only have two pictures of the genders and THAT has got to stop. I don’t care who agrees with me.

Also, NOBODY is asking men to apologize for being sexually attracted to ANY woman. AND, the component of appeal of being “SEMINAL” is just plain gross on national TV. You said it yourself.

  21. KatieSilverSpring says:

I am in total agreement with you, Pat_S. You are so on target.

  22. PeteRFNY says:

All things considered, at least he’s not calling her an under-qualified bad parent and moose-killer. The guy is an ad exec, and speaking as a guy who worked 10 years in advertising / research, this is what they do. They are idiots. Having said that, I think Palin supporters might be losing a little focus…

I couldn’t believe that the cover of the NY Post had the “lipstick on a pig” nonsense on it AGAIN today. I think Obama is clueless, but enough’s enough. It’s time to get back on the issues. By obsessing about every percieved slight or “diss”, we give the Obama camp another excuse to avoid talking about the actual issues. This is NOT what I want to see in the paper or on the news every day when we are talking about one of the most important elections in 30 years (give or take a year or two).

What the Donny Deutshes of the world say is inconsequential in the big picture.

  23. WK says:

To the impartial observer, one can not go too wrong in lowering his estimate as to the overall lack of quality of debate in this election. Headlines such as this as well as the lipstick issue get prominent play, while legitimate debate on issues such as energy independence, the national budget and deficit spending, education, etc. is submerged in the national media.

The media is apparently feeling with good reason that the American public is not interested in debating these more serious issues, and prefer to grab ahold of superfluous issues such as lipstick and that Palin did not have an abortion (as portryaed by a Dem leader from SC). In other words, they want to be entertained by their politics more than educated. Add to that there exists very strong basic issues such as both racism and sexism, and it will be close to impossible now to refocus national debate on national issues of true importance.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I find this has become a sad commentary on the American public’s psyche and short attention span to issues. Next week, some other false issue will get floated, outrage fanned in the media, talking points formed, all for the purpose of gaining a few points in support in socalled polls that are insignificant truly until November. This has what we as a society appear to have evolved into with the domestic politics.

  24. Nonnie says:

Everybody knows the issues and where each candidate stands on those issues. Personally, I’m becoming sick and tired of hearing the same old thing but I’m not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next piece of dirt to fly either.

People’s stupid comments tells us something about them at least in the moment they’re in at the time of the comment.

The comments made by this doofus IS important. As one poster said, a LOT of men feel the same way and THAT’S a problem.

A woman nor a man should have to be attractive in order for the opposite gender to hire them. I’m sure men wouldn’t like it if they were qualified and a woman owner of a company hired the man next to him because he was more eye candy. They wouldn’t like it all.

  25. LongviewCyclist says:

    LOL @ Storytold!

We’re all human, and as such, imperfect. We feel what we feel. But Deutch should have censored himself. I’m not saying he’s a sexist, just a dumbass.

Deutch is a pig sure, but for saying that sex has that great an impact on the way men vote. How insulting to men. I personally don’t find either McCain or Palin attractive. In fact, I’ve seen quite a few more attractive Democrats than Republicans. Bot only an idiot votes for ‘pretty’.

  26. ConnecticutBruce says:

donny deutsch’s ratings are so bad that a test pattern probably draws more viewers:

    http://www.jossip.com/nobody-watched-donny-deutschs-show-last-month-20080606/

  27. Tink says:

Given the context I wasn’t really offended by what he said. I was more offended by what the woman said at the beginning about the “four letter word” MILF.

  28. mrfixit says:

Pat- Deutsch is an old fashoned pitchman, with a great eye for what sells. And like a good pitchman he gets excited about the entire package, and hopes to progect that excitement onto the buyer (viewer). To do this he calls up every possible positve image he can. In this case he is appealing to men on a more primal level, but it’s fairly subtle. Sarah Palin is someone the Republicans haven’t seen since Reagan, something exciting! I think Deutsch just had one of those “Ready…..FIRE!….Aim” moments.

  29. jerocat says:

    !!! NEWS FLASH !!!

Healthy people are sexier than sick people. Sexiness is one of the outward signs of good health and one of the many components of success.

  30. Nonnie says:

    !!! NEWSFLASH!!!

Health was NOT being commented on. Being SEMINAL was the major point, and I’m (QUITE FRANKLY) surprised/disappointed in a couple of the guy’s responses on this blog. What if a woman said “It’s a lubricational” thing on national tv and THEN claimed that’s what it ALL ABOUT with voting? Is that gross on at least TWO levels?
Come on, where is the even handedness?
