Sarahpalooza Convention Night

**Please scroll down after the Bullwinkle jump for regular updates. If you don't have access to a TV, a pro-Sarah site, Fight the Palin Smears, has streaming video of the convention for you.**

sarah.jpg

I will live-blog the Sarah and Rudy speeches tonight. Let's hope they put the howling beached whale attendee out of his misery for tonight. Also please consider this your Open Thread for the evening :)

In the meantime Sarah is going to be giving the media some notice in her speech tonight.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is using her remarks to the Republican National Convention to warn "reporters and commentators" that she's "not going to Washington to seek their good opinion."

In prepared remarks, Palin pushes back wittily but aggressively about the barrage of skeptical coverage she's been subjected to since being chosen as running mate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

"I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment," Palin says in the text. "And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

Woo hoo!

That link also has other excerpts from her speech.

Here is the official schedule for tonight.
The times appear to be Central.

610p PT: Is it just me or is something wrong with Romney? It's like he's trying too hard. Even the crew inside is reacting to him weakly. The more I listen to him the happier I am Sarah is the VP choice.

Sarah scares an old white man entrenched in the status quo. But he's a nice guy and he'll get over it.

618p: Huckabee's next. I'll go and do something important now, like clean the litter box.

BULLWINKLE (2).JPG

628p: Wait, Huckabee is being funny! "Tackier than a costume change at a Madonna concert..." Hahahaha!

Is it possible the Beached Whale has indeed been removed?? I don't hear it...I do hear Huckabee, though. I think I need to go organize my paper towels. I'll be right back.

633: If this man, who raised taxes on Akansans by $500 million dollars starts talking about "not wanting government to save me" I'm gonna need those paper towels to clean up the mess. I really can't stand him.

645: OK, so Governor Lingle addresses the "challenging things" that happen to families. Not exactly, though, the most inspiring speaker. But we like the "Sarah is not going to reinvent herself during this campaign" line. Very nice.

655: Cindy arrives. Looking great in green.

700: Rudy.

709: Excellent mocking of Obama voting 'present' in Illinois state legislature.

OMG, I hear the whale but he's waaaaay back there. I may need to hunt him down. Wait, maybe Sarah can do it.

Cindy's liking the Rudy speech.

725: Oh yeah, nice mocking of Obama not taking Wasila seriously--"not cosmopolitan enough...maybe they cling to religion there..." Hahahahahaha!

Rudy says how dare they (the Dems and left) question her ability to raise a family and do her job. Camera goes to Cindy who says "Yes, how dare they..." Excellent.

729: Here we go!!!!! It's Sarah Time!!!! I would have liked some theme music though....

Her kids look really awed by it all. We need some chanting.

733: I like how she looked right into the camera when accepting the nomination.

Cheers for the kids...Awww the tiny one is waving.... Now praise for the baby Trig. The husband is so cute.

Palin is sooo comfortable in front of the camera because she knows why she believes what she believes. There is a genuine quality to her that will get her thru the crap the left won't be able to stop themselves from throwing.

Todd is "still my guy..."

Hey, does Sarah snarl every now and then? :)

"The difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick." Hahahahaha!

744: Ha, a rather large woman who shouldn't wear pink tights has just been removed from the convention hall. ROTFLMAO!!!

748: Oh man, she's really nailing it. Her content and style are so refreshing. Now she moves to her work as a reformer. That's their passion and that's what we can expect certainly from her.

Hahaha! She sold Alaska's jet for the governor on Ebay!!!!

756: Nailing Barry Go girl!! Greek columns back to the studio lot!!! Hahahhahahahahaaaaaa! Nice dry, cutting sense of humor. Brava.

I think we have a winner here folks.

809: Wow. I don't know what else to day. She did it. Is anyone left with any doubts after this delivery? I would guess not.

OK, McCain's up on the stage. Great timing. I would like some music though to set the attitude.

Finally some music, but its obviously Hollywood people aren;t running this thing, which is good. I'll give up theme music for integrity.

I'm present and reporting for duty... no WAIT, that was John Kerry. No matter, I'm here and I can't wait to hear what everyone's got to say!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:01 PM

Oh... and FWIW, I bought myself a T-Shirt today. . . Take a look!    OK, here comes Mitt!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:07 PM

im anxious, i think sarah should come out with a rifle and bag herself a howling beached whale.

Posted by: Figlio Perduto [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:14 PM

Let's keep Al Gore's private jet on the ground ... well, he's warming up a bit. The subjects he's covering are good, but he's no Fred Thompson.

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:15 PM

I caught that about Romney, too. It was as though he was auditioning for something since he didn't get the veep position.

Posted by: artgal [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:23 PM

Figlio--ROTFLMAO!!!

Posted by: Tammy [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:26 PM

Love the comment about Biden!

Posted by: martyboy [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:35 PM

OK Huck is on so I've muted the television. I can write now. Sounds like Sarah means business, warning the sleaze in the media she is the real thing. I'm sure she earned the nickname Sarah Barracuda for a reason. Take no prisoners Sarah.
I cannot wait for the issues to become a factor in this election then she can really chew them up and spit them out. Go Barracuda ! Damn. Huckabee is still on.

Posted by: Young American [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:37 PM

I am totally cheering and hoping that Sarah can really knock it out of the park. Glad that she can get that little zing in there about the media and Washington elites.
It's been depressing to see how she has been attacked in such a vicious way the last few days, I have never seen anything like this. Ideological bigotry run a muck !

Posted by: Mike [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:50 PM

I can't wait to hear Rudy.
I'm betting he's going to rip Barry a new one.

Posted by: DogOnCrack [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:51 PM

God, I wish y'all could be right here so we could be watching this historical moment together. I called my 15-year-old godson moments ago to make sure he does not miss history being made.

Is anybody elses' heart beating a mile a minute?

Posted by: artgal [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:52 PM

I meant to say, right here at my spacious digs in Tucson.

Posted by: artgal [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:54 PM

I just took the trash out. Did I miss Huckabee?? MARLEED, I'm getting the pink T-Shirt....awesome!!!!!

Posted by: Sally [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:56 PM

Huckabee describes the treatment of Sarah Palin as
"Tackier than a costume change at a Madonna Concert"
He was better than I expected! But Linda Lingle ROCKS! "You can fit more than 250 states the size of Delaware into Alaska" ... Not an exciting speaker but a good speech that the crowd seems to be enjoying.

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 06:56 PM

GO RUDY GO!!!!!

Posted by: Mike [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:11 PM

Rudy has a lot of AUDACITY... I get the impression he's poking a little fun at The Great BO! "Community Organizer" *giggle* ... Voting, not yes, or no, but "present"... Celebrity Senator. I think I can safely say that this isn't playing well with the DNC and the Obama Campaign.

... But we agree with Joe Biden, what could be wrong with that? Mr. O isn't ready!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:12 PM

Zero! Zero! Now we know what the "O" stands for.

O No!

Posted by: ashleymatt [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:12 PM

My sister knows Gov Lingle; I've been on the phone with my sister all night - she says Hawaiians love her but her 2 terms are up in 2 years. My sister says she's another Tammy Bruce! but Republican. She's a Cutter girl (maiden name) and everyone knows her, in the quieter circles.

Lingle is a slow boil but she makes her point - Zero! zero! zero! That was a very good speech. We will see more of Linda Lingle. She's everything that would make her a Dem but she's a Repub and well loved in Hawaii. We can only hope she swings the vote away from the ther Hawaiian. Uh, you know, surfer boy, Obama. The one who stays with Oprah not his grandmother when he goes "home".

Posted by: KatieSilverSpring [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:13 PM

Todd Palin looks kind of like a lost puppy dog. He is really out of place surrounded by all those politicians...and I'm lovin it.

Posted by: shkoder14 [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:14 PM

"Change is not a destination, hope is not a strategy!"

I want that on a T-shirt too!!!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:16 PM

ZING ... I'm *sorry* her town isn't "cosmopolitan" enough. I'm *sorry* it's not "flashy" enough. Maybe they cling to religion there!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:25 PM

Here she is! Pray if you're so inclined!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:29 PM

Thank you, Tammy, for reminding me of C-SPAN. I was bothered by all the talk on the other channels.

SARAH! SARAH! SARAH!

Posted by: KatieSilverSpring [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:30 PM

Thank you, Tammy, for reminding me of C-SPAN. I was bothered by all the talk on the other channels.

SARAH! SARAH! SARAH!

Posted by: KatieSilverSpring [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:31 PM

Yeah Katie I'm watching on C-Span tonight too.

Posted by: Tammy [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:32 PM

She's nailing this ... she looks relaxed, comfortable, and formidable. I hope Joe Biden isn't counting on winning the debate he's having with her, cause I don't think so!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:39 PM

HAHAHA LIPSTICK!

Posted by: Figlio Perduto [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:43 PM

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am I correct in thinking she is doing FANTASTIC. I am hope I am gauging this correctly

Posted by: Mike [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:46 PM

Sold the jet on ebay... Awesome
Fired the Chef ... great!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:49 PM

SA-RAH! SA-RAH! SA-RAH!

Posted by: pat_s [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:55 PM

What is his plan... after turning back the waters and healing the planet? LMAO!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 07:57 PM

OMG FIERCE! SARACUDA 2008! i think i love her.

Posted by: Figlio Perduto [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:03 PM

This is so reassuring.. she is totally nailing it.
I am done worrying about how she will do the rest of the way in this campaign

Like the words in the Mary Tyler Moore song... "You're going to make it after all"

;-)

Posted by: Mike [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:05 PM

Amen and Amen!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:09 PM

Tammy... that theme from Rudy would work well!

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:13 PM

A thousand WOWs Sarah ! I love her grit and she's got a great snarl going on every now and then. Yes, the next Vice President of the United States. Terrific job.

Posted by: Young American [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:13 PM

Three words to describe Governor Palin: Feisty, Courageous, Ready.

Posted by: Pasadena Closet Conservative [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:17 PM

That was awesome!
I think she just sealed the deal.
Tammy, I love your suggestion about a debate between her and Barry.

Posted by: DogOnCrack [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:18 PM

Headline:

SARAH PULLS SWORD FROM STONE.

Posted by: jerocat [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:19 PM

Hat Trick Hat Trick Hat Trick!!!

Posted by: Sally [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:20 PM

Wow. She did a fantastic job! Any member of the Obama team or the MSM who are stupid enough to underestimate her will regret it. She's the type of woman, the type of person of whom we can be very proud.

Woo hoo!

Posted by: Kelly [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:20 PM

The Obama team answered saying that it was a well delivered speech but it was written by a Bush speech writer and contained the same tired material. (paraphrased) ... ummm didn't sound like a George Bush speech to me (in content or delivery).

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:26 PM

Can we just have Governor Palin speak again tomorrow night?

This time they can have the video in front of her speech like they were supposed to, and can play music when she walks on stage and off. Not that it would change my opinion of her, but that kind of production value and video biography of her would have been more moving to people watching.

She knocked them out, though, all while flashing a smile. I even love her little accent. I just feel sorry for the state of Alaska that's losing her.

Posted by: ashleymatt [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:36 PM

It's amazing how quickly the MSM shifted from McCain vs. Obama to Palin vs. Obama.
It goes to show how terrified they are of her.

Posted by: DogOnCrack [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:36 PM

With the Talking Heads over at CNN and MSNBC just now I saw kudos to her, respect for her, fear of her and a taste of humble pie. I think they understand she will be our president one day.

Posted by: jerocat [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:37 PM

Charles Krathammer (a.k.a. Mr. Wetblanket) is unmoved. He says that Palin's nomination takes away the issue of Obama's lack of experience, and he thinks that's a big mistake. I like Charles, but I just don't agree... and it would be nice if he'd just zip it! I hate it when my parade gets rained on.

Posted by: marleed [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:39 PM

YESSSSSSSSS! Absolutely freakin wonderful! She nailed it! BIF! SOCK! POW! Wished Rudy'd gotten back up to the mike and said: "TOLDJA!".

Oh, yeah. She's formidable. She's a tough cookie, more than up to the job. She could do POTUS if it came to that, someday. No doubt.

Uh,huh. When she comes up against Biden in a debate, she WILL hand him his gonads in a baggie.
Ol' motor mouth won't stand a snowball's chance.

There is hope, again. God is Good. Always is. In spite of us...

Oh, MARLEED, saw your paraphrase of Obama's comment on her speech. So he thinks that is same old tired material? Huh? That's tired? Where the hell has he been? Asleep? Bravo Sierra, Barry.

Posted by: Floyd R. Turbo [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:47 PM

MARLEED, I like Charles, he's good, often brilliant, but sometimes he tarnishes himself. Like now. I don't agree either. He'd been better off shutting up.

Posted by: Floyd R. Turbo [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:51 PM

SARAH IS AIMING FOR A .........

!!! L A N D S L I D E !!!

(I heard she's got a good aim.)

Posted by: jerocat [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:55 PM

Actually, Barry could have truthfully said instead: "They're good, we're toast"...

Posted by: Floyd R. Turbo [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 08:57 PM

Right on again Tammy with the live blog, but I missed the lady in the pink tights, Too bad.
And you were right about the whale... I heard him somewhere in the middle of the floor.

Marleed- love the t-shirt. During her speech I literally thought "She is us!"

Seriously, Governor Palin has been blessed by God with certain gifts and she is honoring those gifts... and it is a beautiful thing to behold.

I can only think of one word to sum up her night -- Reaganesque --

It's easy to see God's hand in all this looking back... think of it. McCain was seemingly finished, but somehow he won (I still don't know how) and chose Palin. NOT ONE of those other candidates would've chosen her. NOT ONE.

This whole thing is just amazing. Can I be the first one to dare say it? ~Landslide~

Posted by: Tink [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 09:00 PM

Off to "Z"ville. My day starts early. Blessings to Tammy and all...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Posted by: Floyd R. Turbo [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 09:00 PM

From now on, I'm referring to Sarah as the New Iron Lady!!

She was spectacular tonight!!

Conservatism is back!!

Posted by: snowcloud [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2008 09:55 PM

I LOOOVE IT! The left asked for it - and they got it! Perfect! She is perfect! The media still has not thoroughly examined the Edwards thing - a true scandel, and they have mercilessly entered the private life of Sarah and her family, where there is NO SCANDEL, and attacked her mercilessly. But, our Sarah, it must have just stoked the fire for her, made her more intense, more dangerous, more fierce and formidable! Fantastic!
