It’s apparently as bad as Pakistan. Yet, there are no travel restrictions and we certainly can’t even consider building that wall because that would make it seem like we’re ‘unwelcoming.’

U.S. military report warns ‘sudden collapse’ of Mexico is possible

Mexico is one of two countries that “bear consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse,” according to a report by the U.S. Joint Forces Command on worldwide security threats.

The command’s “Joint Operating Environment (JOE 2008)” report, which contains projections of global threats and potential next wars, puts Pakistan on the same level as Mexico. “In terms of worse-case scenarios for the Joint Force and indeed the world, two large and important states bear consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse: Pakistan and Mexico…

The report is one in a series focusing on Mexico’s internal security problems, mostly stemming from drug violence and drug corruption. In recent weeks, the Department of Homeland Security and former U.S. drug czar Barry McCaffrey issued similar alerts about Mexico.

Despite such reports, El Pasoan Veronica Callaghan, a border business leader, said she keeps running into people in the region who “are in denial about what is happening in Mexico.”

And while the State Department isn’t warning American tourists about the dangers posed by Mexico, the Marines think something is indeed happening and have restricted troop visits south of the border.

A new U.S. Marine Corps policy is in effect restricting travel south of the border without prior approval. Officials with the U.S. Marine Corps said with the escalating violence in Mexico it’s just too dangerous for Marines…The warning is resonating with civilians who are now thinking twice about traveling to Mexico. Janiece Thorn is visiting San Diego from New York. She said she wouldn’t be going to Mexico any time soon.

“If I were aware that these were the instructions the military was giving its own personnel I would assume that that would apply to the ordinary non-military person as well,” Thorn said.

Well, the problem is our government isn’t warning us, and Bush just a few days ago at his I’m a Baby pres conference was not warning Americans about the increasing chaos in Mexico, but instead continued to whine about how we have to be more inviting when it comes to Mexican illegal aliens.

Whine to President Bush to release Ramos and Compean via email at comments@whitehouse.gov – we can at least try to help.

This plea is for you to do the right thing and commute the sentences for Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. As a citizen I find that their sentencing was far to harsh and the fact that they remain in jail a complete injustice.

Wow – this is a bit disturbing since I’m supposed to be going to Puerto Vallarta in May…wonder if I should cancel.

I’m sure there are many in the government who would absolutely love nothing more than to see Mexico collapse so that we’d have an excuse to go in, restore order and subsequently annex it in order to give us plenty of new people to vote for socialists.

I do a lot of business in Mexico. I actually feel safer in Columbia. The Mexican government protects the tourist areas well. It gives visitors a sense of security and keeps them from seeing the systemic problems with the corrupt power base that runs everything. Outside of the tourist havens, my concerns are:

    1. Federalis: Been shaken down for all cash twice.
    2. Policia: Often work in consort with #3.
    3. Kidnappers: They snatch gringos right and left. If you look like a business person or a wealthy tourist that just went a little too far out of bounds, you’re in serious danger. The media supresses how bad it really is. The U.S. usually won’t help much beyond filing an inquiry with the Mexican government.

The drug runners and cartel members make regular incursions into the U.S. to “enforce” (murder) various members that cross them and live here as illegals, (and drug dealers).

    Tips:
    1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER rent a car, or drive in Mexico.
    2. If you want to see the countryside, take an organized tour with a group of people on a bus. The operator has already paid his protection money to the police, so you won’t be hassled.
    3. Don’t travel alone or as a couple where you will be on outer roads, cross the city in a cab, and go from the hotel, to a market or whatever, and back to the hotel.
    4. You used to be able to go on an adventure with a couple of buddies in Mexico. There was minimal risk of being shaken down, but not much else. Not any more.
