If this colleague isn’t a figment, he’s a cowardly moderate Republican. Either way Specter was talking to a ghost. Moderate Republicans have cause to worry about fingerprints, the fingerprints around their throats, in a manner of speaking, when primary season comes around.
Republicans Support Stimulus, Don’t Want ‘Fingerprints’ On It
“When I came back to the cloak room after coming to the agreement a week ago today,” said Specter, “one of my colleagues said, ‘Arlen, I’m proud of you.’ My Republican colleague said, ‘Arlen, I’m proud of you.’ I said, ‘Are you going to vote with me?’ And he said, ‘No, I might have a primary.’ And I said, ‘Well, you know very well I’m going to have a primary.’”
“I think there are a lot of people in the Republican caucus who are glad to see this action taken without their fingerprints, without their participation,” he said.
Specter was asked, How many of your colleagues?
“I think a sizable number,” he said. “I think a good part of the caucus agrees with the person I quoted, but I wouldn’t want to begin to speculate on numbers.”
Listen to audio of interview here.
If that doesn’t take the cake. Talk about a stretch… if you believe that then you deserve what you get.
Important to bear in mind that the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac debacle started all this. But what started that?
One can follow the initiatives to put people into government sponsored low and even no-interest, no money down loans they had no chance of affording all the way back to Henry Cisneros ( Clinton’s HUD Secretary ) and Andrew Cuomo, who also worked for Clinton. Remember Cisneros’ stated policy objective to de-urbanize the projects? Franklin Raines, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Chuck Schumer are the principles however in the trillion dollars of toxic debt now placed on the American taxpayer.
As for the stimulus bill, the vast majority of credible economists have stated categorically that it would have been better to do nothing at all.
Hey, I should be happy, right? I will be able to get an extra cup at Dunkin Donuts each and every day with my 13 bucks a week ( not counting Sunday I guess).
Specter’s not even big enough to admit to his actions without suggesting he was getting approval.
“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing…”
…an abundance of vanity driven stupidity isn’t much help either.
Judd Gregg? Well, he at least turned back.
I “might” have a primary?!?! name some names, Arlen. there was no “sizeable” number.
If the House was any indicator, the Republicans said no to this.
Amazing – voting the way B.O. convinced him and the other two cretins and now trying to pass it on. Have we figured out what they got in return? The thing that disgusts me most is these people could be re-elected. Look at John Murtha – he called his constituents a bunch of racist, rednecks and still they sent him back to Washington.
Beltway Delusional Syndrome. That can be the only explanation for being so out of touch. Rally the Peeps Tammy.
Arlen shouldn’t be proud of himself – ever! This is the same IDIOT who came up with the “magic bullet” theory in the Kennedy assassination, and that’s the same sort of crap that he’s STILL supporting here with the national CRAP SANDWICH bill…….
