The FoxNews report:

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to act for the first time to regulate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing senior Obama administration officials.

In 2007, the Supreme Court ruled that it could be used to curb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, but the Bush administration refused to use the law, saying it was the wrong tool.

[EPA Administrator Lisa] Jackson took a different position Tuesday during one of her first interviews since winning Senate confirmation Jan. 23.

“It is clear that the Clean Air Act has a mechanism in it for other pollutants to be addressed,” she said.

I should start by saying that I (Maynard) am concerned about the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide, which I acknowledge is caused by human activity and which I do not assume is necessarily benign.

On the other hand, it’s clear that there’s a very fundamental threat to our basic liberties in play here, and the Clean Air Act has mysteriously transformed into a tool by which the government can exert an unprecedented control over the individual. The Left beats the drum of environmental catastrophe for the same reason it beats the drum of economic catastrophe: A panicked populace is more willing to cede its rights to a controlling authority.

(Note that the proponents of economic authoritarianism are generally the same people that warned us that the Patriot Act was an unneeded threat to our rights. Their dogma would have it that we have more to fear from carbon dioxide than from genocidal maniacs. These arguments may sound good on paper, but I think history speaks for itself. Compare the last century’s death toll from eco-catastrophes against the death toll from human evil, and you’ll see where our focus belongs.)

How pervasive could Obama’s regulations become? Every time you exhale, you emit carbon dioxide. Do you think it’s absurd that you’ll eventually need an EPA permit to breathe? Maybe not yet, but it’s certainly a lever to make you feel guilty about your miserable existence. A guilty citizen is a pliable citizen.

The Bush Administration proceeded on the theory that if the American people are to be subjugated, at least it should be done by an explicit act of Congress rather than a court ruling. Looks like the Obama Administration will not be deterred by such abstract concerns.

Plants absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen for us humans to breathe. If we regulate carbon dioxide, does that mean there’s a chance plants won’t have enough CO2 to produce our air?

  2. KWH says:

“which I acknowledge is caused by human activity”
I disagree with you here. Same “global warming” is going on on Mars, what is the human head count there? Have those pesky Martians been over driving their SUV’s again?
Seriously, it’s all about taxes and control.
Porkulous is going to do severe damage to the WORLD economy, what do you think the EPA will do?

  3. HALEY says:

Obama and his fellow Leftists are about to control everything else with their massive, totalitarian government, so why not throw in dictating when and if people breathe? There is no psychotic or radical action that would surprise me anymore. And I agree – “a guilty citizen is a pliable citizen”. That is exactly what the Obama administration is using against Americans in order to destroy us.

In a closed greenhouse the plants quickly deplete the available CO2, requiring an alchohol lamp be used to supply Co2 in the necessary quantity to maintain plant growth.
It seems likely to me that increased CO2 levels would increase plant growth and that any warming from Green house gasses would result in the northward expansion of temperate zone forests thereby, at some point reversing the trend.
Before the the little ice age there was no Greenland Icecap as we know it today. Greenland at least on the southern fringes was animal pasture.
I believe that nature has this problem well in hand and although there is a need for caution, I believe we are poorly served by a National Policy that makes makes decisions based on Politics rather than settled Science.

Which raises the point that the American Lemmings don’t have the mind to consider. The “Prime Time” idol they so subserviantly voted for also appoints judges.
But, Hell, you wimps; go vote your kids security to rot.
Follow the “Bible of the Times”, chic remarks by Letterman and ravings from Rosie O’Donnell.

We used to say that the only thing free from taxes was the air that we breath. Now look. Government finally figured out a way to tax that too!! This money hungry controlling government is killing us!! How absurd it is to think the government is so superhuman and has such supernatural strength that it thinks it can “control” the weather now. This is man’s pride running a muk and the common citizen has no way and no representation to do a thing to stop it. Our country is doomed. We lost it a long time ago when the common citizen trusted their government would to the right thing. We gave the government the wheel and it has driven us to a unrecognizable place. Well, look at what we got now. A self serving, money grabbing, law breaking, criminal enterprise call government. And, nearly half of the citizenry is dependent needing, welfare wanting, pitiful people who have nor want their freedom. Our politicians have robbed our country and half the people are satisfied.

I’ve been listening to Tammy radio & visiting Tammy’s site for a few months now & am so very thankful for your voices of reason.
Maynard, you hit it on the head as you usually do. Are all those in any kind of power positions asleep? Hypnotized or under some mind control other than their own? I am amazed at the lack of fight the average American possess’. As I read our Constitution (in it’s original form) Doesn’t it imply that we not only have the right to pursue happiness, but we also have the choice to not choose? We do have the right to choose to do nothing and in that vacuum, someone will choose for us… We are choosing our destiny by not choosing to stand and fight for our rights. A sad time in American History. I pray America wakes up, I pray America Rises up, I pray Americans once again choose freedom, it is getting back to that. Don’t you just love the Beatles “You Say You Want A Revolution… Well ya know…”

Okay Maynard, let me educate you instead of you just relying on Junk Science further perverted by “Genesis Project” Al Gore. One, “Carbon Dioxide” isn’t a pollutant. It us called “food” for plants idiot! Then that good yummy carbon dioxide emits some good yummy stuff called “Oxygen”. You might want to check, Maynard, that the term “Global Warming” is a theory and is NOT supported by a concensus of scientists. Most scientist laugh at it because the sane ones know there is absolutely ZERO proof that carbon emmissions can even cause, or have ever caused, warming of the earth’s atmosphere. I’m all for reducing real “pollutants” like Carbon Monoxide that produce ground level ozone smog because that is not healthy. But to think you are a God in control of mother nature is insane. Remember, “Don’t mess with Mother Nature”. Yeah, she tends to get pissed.

    Where should I begin…?
1.) Carbon Dioxide, CO2 emmitted by man in great volumes by the burning of fossil fuels. This is true.

2.) man also sequesters (binds up) CO2 in vast quantities by his activities. Homebuilding binds up carbon by the use of lumber and other natural materials such as bamboo, and pressed board flooring. Most communities have reclaim laws that require a percentage of materials from torn down houses be used to build new homes. Older trees are replaced by new growth that soaks up 5-7 times more carbon per year than the older growth. Making plastics also binds up CO2 on a massive scale, and when land filled they will lock up the carbon for thousands of years.

3.) As KWH points out the Martian ice caps have retreated and further, the atmospheric temps of Venus have also risen.

4.) The alarmists have the equation backwards. CO2 increases FOLLOW warm periods, they do not preceed them or happen concurrently. This is due to the fact that there is a very large ammount of CO2 dissolved in the ocean. When the ocean is cool, like a soda in the fridge, it holds the CO2 in solution. When the ocean warms up, it releases CO2, like a warm soda.

5.) Experiments in real greenhouses reveal that plants like an atmosphere of 1% CO2. At this level of CO2, they grow rapidly with no need for chemical fertilizer. Historic levels of CO2 have been as high as 4%. Oddly enough, greenhouses held at 350ppm CO2 as a control did not have a lower temperature rise than the greenhouses held at 1% CO2 (1000ppm).

6.) The sun is in a solar minimum right now and the sunspot count hit zero for an entire month. It has not been this quiet for a number of solar cycles. The earth has cooled since 1998, when the cycle peaked, and scientists are waiting for the next cycle to start (there is still very low to no activity).

7.) On December 21, 2012 the solar system will experience the Precession of the Eqinoxes. Nobody knows what effect this will have on the earth, but we may be experiencing a possible effect right now. The earth is moving out of it’s circular orbit, and into an elliptical orbit along with the other planets. This generates shorter warmer summers, and longer cooler winters, with a net cooling of the earth. The significance of the equinox event is that the solar system will be exposed directly to the black hole in the center of the milky way. Without the matrix of other stars to fix the sun in its path, the sun could be dragged a small distance closer toward the black hole. This is why the galaxy has a spiral shape. Like a whirlpool, the water or particles that move to the surface move toward the center at an increasing rate, until they are “grabbed” and quickly sucked in. The sun will burn out long before this happens to us. The slight shift in solar position will set up an exaggerated orbit that will degrade into an eliptical orbit, and over thousands of years will eventually become circular once again.

8.) Glaciations are the normal conditions on the planet, lasting around 400,000 years at a clip. Interglacials are abnormal, and last about 10,000 years each, when life flurishes. The current (Holocene) interglacial is about 10,000 years old now.

We will probably cool down over the next few years, and the politicians will take credit for the natural cooling, telling us that their economy killing carbon taxes saved the planet. Then, when crops freeze, and food riots break out — THEY are the ones that will need saving. The little ice age more than anything else gave France its revolution.

    That’s my two cents.

Well, the real question is, what do we DO about Obama using the environmental nonsense to destroy us? Do you not see (pun intended) that the logical consequence of all this is to determine who lives and who dies?
