The Omniporkulus Bill singed by Barkey includes tons of money for the “Kennedy legacy” in Massachusetts. That so-called “Kennedy legacy” includes Teddy leaving behind a woman to drown in a car he wrecked. Mary Jo Kopechne was found, btw, with her head inched into into an air pocket indicating she survived the accident, just as Teddy had. More than one out of every five dollars of the $126 million Massachusetts is receiving in earmarks from a $410 billion federal spending package is going to help preserve the legacy of the Kennedys.
The bill includes $5.8 million for the planning and design of a building to house a new Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate. The funding may also help support an endowment for the institute.
The bill also includes $22 million to expand facilities at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum and $5 million more for a new gateway to the Boston Harbor Islands on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a park system in downtown Boston named after Kennedy’s mother and built on land opened up by the Big Dig highway project.
Well, can we at least put the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate under water?

When you spoke of Chandra Levy’s terrible fate and other sad things happening in the culture on your opening monologue on your Saturday show some weeks back, I was reminded of a few lines in a poem by J. G. Holland. I remembered Holland’s words again when I saw a news report on TV recently that feted the Senior Gasbag from Massachusetts, with Madame DeFarge Obama by his side. This is a man who “wrote” a children’s book, with the main character being a dog named Splash!!! And now an institute to be named after him. I am speechless.

While our country is dealing with a terrible economic crisis, earmarks in the latest spending spree (disguised as a budget) includes 5.8 million for an Edward Kennedy Institute for the Senate. Will this include a memorial to Mary Jo Kopechne who was left by this coward to drown? Oh – that’s right; we’re supposed to forgive and forget. This happened so long ago. She is still dead and the idea that my tax dollars are going to a “memorial” for Ted Kennedy makes me ill.
