Obama tells us we have to break the bank and do everything all at once for the good of the country. Just today speaking about education reform, he had this to say about the Obama multi-tasking agenda:
I know there are some who believe we can only handle one challenge at a time. They forget that Lincoln helped lay down the transcontinental railroad, passed the Homestead Act, and created the National Academy of Sciences in the midst of Civil War. Likewise, President Roosevelt didn’t have the luxury of choosing between ending a depression and fighting a war. President Kennedy didn’t have the luxury of choosing between civil rights and sending us to the moon. And we don’t have the luxury of choosing between getting our economy moving now and rebuilding it over the long term.
Apparently Obama believes he has the luxury to choose against defense spending while the Chinese are increasing theirs 14.9%, Russia by 25% and every lunatic who managed to get himself in charge of a country is working on a nuke. Maybe Obama is confident he and Hillary can sweet talk the thugs and maniacs of the world (Hillary sweet talk!), but I want some more bombers thank you. While the overall increase in the 2010 budget is expected to be 6.7%, the Defense budget will increase by 4%. It’s only the beginning of reductions in defense spending relative to the economy and other government spending. The Pentagon will have to drop or delay expenditures in weapons programs.
Obama Seeks to Delay Tanker, Cancel Bomber
The White House has given the Pentagon guidance to delay procurement of aerial refueling tankers by five years and cancel plans for a new long-range bomber, according to three sources close to the discussions.
No final decisions have been made, and the recommendations are part of negotiations between the Office of Management and Budget and the Defense Department over possible budget trade-offs this year, the sources said. The guidance represents two of the offset options that OMB gave the Pentagon last month regarding the fiscal 2010 Defense budget request.
If the guidance survives the internal budget process, a huge protest will follow on Capitol Hill, where dozens of lawmakers are heavily invested in the battle over tanker procurement, which has raged for years.
Air power advocates and military officials contend that the moves, if enacted, would hurt U.S. strategic might and put at risk missions that depend on the aging tanker and bomber fleets.
“The Air Force needs a new tanker desperately,†said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael Dunn, president of the Air Force Association. “The KC-135 tanker averages over 47 years old, and the B-52 bomber is almost as old.â€
President Obama released limited details of his upcoming $533.7 billion fiscal 2010 Defense budget Feb. 26, with full details expected in April.
There will be plenty of opposition to these and other defense cuts. What about those defense jobs? We are definitely jeopardizing our future if we let defense spending slide. Just think of all the shovel-ready projects there will be when America is pocked with bomb craters.
Obama is throwing everything at us all at once hoping we won’t have time to think. He was always quick to decry distractions when he was campaigning now he’s the Distractor In Chief. Look here, no look there! Just don’t look where we’re doing our mischief. Nope, it won’t work. We’ve got our American eagle eyes on him.
Again: Baraq’s favorite military leader:
When we fought the Yankees and annihilation was near,
Who was there to lead the charge that took us safe to the rear?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old “Toot your own horn – pone.”
Jubilation T. Cornpone, a man who knew no fear!
When we almost had ‘em but the issue still was in doubt,
Who suggested the retreat that turned it into a rout?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old “Tattered and torn – pone.”
Jubilation T. Cornpone, he kept us hidin’ out!
With our ammunition gone and faced with utter defeat,
Who was it that burned the crops and left us nothing to eat?
Why it was Jubilation T. Cornpone;
Old “September Morn – pone.”
Jubilation T. Cornpone, the pants blown off his seat!
But think of all the dorks from ACORN that can be payed if we cut Pentagon Spending.
Kind of funny that before he was “exhausted” when PM Brown came to visit, but now he’s the guy who can do many things at the same time. He’s going to try do a bunch of things at once, and he might succeed in quantity, but not in quality. What I heard from people who actually read the “stimulus” bill was that it was a mess. I think the “exhaustion” excuse was a ruse. Here’s what Obama really thinks: “The special relationship (with the UK) is over and dead. It’s a different day.†This quote was from former Clinton advisor Morris Reid. That’s the real story. How much you want to bet the DVDs were not even Region 2 encoded so that Brown could play them on his DVD player? That’s what we’ve all gotten from Obama: the slip.
Obama thinks the most significant threats to our country are rapacious corporations and global warming. This “War on Terror” stuff was just the Republicans trying to scare us to get their friends at Halliburton rich and take away our civil liberties. Didn’t you know that? (sarcasm)
Well, what good would those tankers and bombers be anyway? It’s not like we’re actually going to use them. That would make us baby-killing war criminals. Remember, the military’s job is not to win wars; that is the brutish chauvinistic thinking of old. It’s their job to ride or cruise around in uniform in Hellholes (so they’ll stand out for the snipers) building cities for savages and handing out bottled water.
I think it was Clinton who tried first to turn the US military into the international “Meals on Wheels”. Now Obama wants to follow suit.
With regards to the B-52 – we’ve been trying to find a replacement since the days of the long-gone B-70 Valkyrie. Last I heard was that the B-52 was supposed to stay in service until 2050 so that’s not as pressing an issue as some would like to believe. The tanker issue, however, is becoming serious as the government becomes more and more risk-adverse and nobody wants to forward-base in places where we may get kicked out of because of Obama’s ineptness.
Just another example of the Messiah being in over his head. There are so many of them.
I’d like to point out that Defense is something that the Constitution tasks to the federal government. Education is NOT. I didn’t like Bush’s education plans, and I don’t like Obama’s. The federal government shouldn’t be involved in schools at all, other than prosecuting interstate crime that involves schools.
No surprise here. His intention is to bring us down in every area. Always has been his plan.
