Three pirates dead, one in custody. More shortly…

UPDATE:

Official: US sea captain freed in swift firefight

MOMBASA, Kenya (AP) – An American ship captain was freed unharmed Sunday in a swift firefight that killed three of the four Somali pirates who had been holding him for days in a lifeboat off the coast of Africa, the ship’s owner said and a U.S. official said.

A senior U.S. intelligence official said a pirate who had been involved in negotiations to free Capt. Richard Phillips but who was not on the lifeboat was in custody. Phillips, 53, of Underhill, Vermont, was safely transported to a Navy warship nearby. [...]

When Phillips’ crew heard the news aboard their ship in the port of Mombasa, they placed an American flag over the rail of the top of the Maersk Alabama and whistled and pumped their fists in the air. Crew fired a bright red flare into the sky from the ship.

How about hanging all ‘pirates’ like they used to do in the old days?

After being a no-show throughout the entire ordeal, if The One now decides to step into the rescue and return limelight, I will want to throw up. (But then, that is my typical response to anything he does, anyway.)

I’d love to hear what went on behind the scenes as the real “deciders” made their choice to go in and kick butts. The pizza gang must be wondering how to take gracious credit for it.

    Wonderful news!!!

Thank heavens! It’s about frickin’ time!

Of course they waited until the gun was pointed at his head because it was only THEN that he was in imminent danger.

Well, either way, I’m glad that they rescued him alive. Why do I have a feeling that the Navy Commandar’s “split second decision” was because he was tired of asking permission of Obama. I know Obama signed off on “military action” at some point, but still. This was too long and almost one day too long.

Also, I read that the pirates said that they’ll start killing hostages. I hope they realize that most likely, with or without the One’s permission, there will be hell to pay on that account.

God Bless that Family. God Bless America.

Woo-hoo! Now let’s get to work figuring the best way to stop it from happening again.

  13. Bravo Seals and Bravo Captain, this one will go down in history……

  15. Shawmut says:

Imminent danger begins at the instant of a threat.
I think someone in the Navy was canny enough to see to it, that lest there be an untoward outcome, he couldn’t wiggle away or ‘speech out of it’.
But his contempt still resonates; letting the Nave ‘share credit with him’ he aknowledged all the other agencies involved. I expected his to list everyone appointee fown the line to ACORN.
He just couldn’t let the heroism of real people alone for a minute, could he. But, we know, don’t we.
The big picture is that great men – on the scene -did great things from mid-week to this weekend.
    Let’s rejoice in their character.

Cheers to the Navy! They saw a shot and took it. All this bull hockey about imminent danger should be transparent to everyone. Why would the pirates execute the captain when he was their only leverage? Wasn’t Captain Phillips in imminent danger when he jumped in the water the first time and the pirates were firing at him?

Obama might learn from this and choose his wording more carefully next time. Submit a written request and await DOJ approval before firing.
