SEOUL, April 5 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s presidential office confirmed North Korea launched its long-range rocket 15 seconds past 11:30 a.m. Sunday, but said it was too early to call the launch a success.

Reminder of what President Obama said today.

Calling North Korea’s plan of launching a rocket a “provocative” act, U.S. President Barack Obama issued a last-minute call on Pyongyang to scrap the move, adding a warning that the U.S. would bring the matter to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.

“We have made it very clear to the North Koreans that their missile launch is provocative, it puts enormous strains on the six-party talks, and that they should stop the launch,” Obama said in a press conference, Yonhap reported Saturday.

“It is not just us that has said that North Korea should not launch,” he said. “Japan, Korea, Russia, China, the other members of the six-party talks have all indicated that this launch should not go forward.”

Washington, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — North Korea’s rocket launch is posing a serious threat to the international community, a U.S. State Department spokesman told BNO News on late Saturday, shortly after North Korea launched a rocket.

“North Korea’s development, deployment and proliferation of ballistic missiles, missile related materials, equipment and technologies pose a serious threat to the Northeast Asian region and to the international community,” the official said.

He said he did not yet have any information about the actual vehicle or if it reached orbit. “We see this as a provocative act [..] it’s a violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution,” the official added.

    In other words, stop or we’ll say stop again. WTF is Barry planning on doing when the next North Korean ICBM actually hits Japan, or Hawaii?

    That’s the problem! It shouldn’t have to take several countries telling them ‘no’. We – meaning the US alone – should have been in a position where our utterance of, ‘You better not even try!’ would have been enough to ward off any wet dreams the Norks had of launching the damn thing in the first place. They know we have nothing but a finger-puppet in the White House – what’s he going to do? Consult with the UN? Ooh! Boy, I bet that puts sweat on the Nork’s brow!

    Obama’s words indicate that because other countries didn’t want N. Korea to do this, then it’s a valid request. If it was JUST the U.S. telling him to stop, then that would just confirm how arrogant we are – telling countries what they can and can’t do with their own nukes.

    Well, Biden was right about O being tested within 6 months of taking office. Maybe Biden should be Ms. Cleo.

    Japan has the capability of taking this missile out. The fact that they did not, when it actually violated Japanese airspace, can only mean that someone in the US government explicitly told them not to.

    This single event has completely vindicated Bush for every action he has taken in the rest of the world. We don’t need ‘effing Europe’s approval to stop the damn bad guys when they are a danger to everyone!

    But then again, how does an arrogant, dissmisive, and derisive American like me possibly sleep at night? Especially knowing how worthless I am before those beautiful Europeans? Answer: easily…

    Of course, we can resort now, once again, to a call for 6 party conversations. And ANOTHER “tough” UN security council resolution, which will be meaningless with China holding and promising to excercise veto power.

    Did anyony happen to notice that this missile was aimed at our west coast?

    Yes, I agree w/ others who have posted: while the Big O’s are in Europe, why don’t we have emergency legislation drafted that keeps their backsides parked over there indefinitely? We can start off the wording something like this:

    With a New American Revolution, we need to submit a New Declaration of Independence. Not that we need to re-word it at all, just clarify it’s no longer King George we’re dealing with, then be willing to attach all our names to it knowing there will be consequences – but it will be worth it in the end.

    Didn’t obama’s secretary of defense just last week give north Korea the go ahead to launch? Now we are surprised? Again, the lib sets up and causes the problem and then they play the “surprised” game (ie. Bonuses)and the drones (stupid citizen) just go along… Where is the outrage against the sphincter “O?” Why haven’t I seen anyone bring up this point?
