Considering “pirates” is a euphemism for Somali Islamists, I guess all that pandering and bowing to Islamists didn’t work. So the question is, How long will it take B. Hussein Urkel to apologize to the pirates?

Pirates seize 20 Americans on board US ship in Indian Ocean

Somali pirates have seized a US-flagged container ship in the Indian Ocean, the first such attack on American interests.

All 20 American crew members aboard the Maersk Alabama were believed to be unharmed, according to Andrew Mwangura, who monitors piracy for the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme.

The ship was travelling to the Kenyan port of Mombasa and her cargo includes 232 containers of relief food destined for United Nations feeding programmes in Somalia and Uganda.

She was snatched after a sustained assault involving several pirate skiffs about 400 nautical miles east of Mogadishu. The attack lasted five hours as the ship tried unsuccessfully to evade the assault.

UPDATE: AP is now reporting via Fox that the Americans have regained control of the ship (yea!) and one “pirate” is in custody.

It was an unauthorized change of command.

“and one “pirate” is in custody”
Does this mean we have new legal crisis on our hands. Will he be defined as a “pirate”? What do we know about him? His family? His early childhood? Did he always like the sea? Does he have relatives in this country?
If the crew overpowered the pirates did they have authority to do so? What sanctions will the crew face if any priates have been injured?
Has the UN Human Rights Commission or the International Red Cross been to visit?

The Liar in Chief is only sorry they didnt make off with the loot because that would have diverted attention away from his ANTI American whirlwind tour. He pandered to terrorist nations, bowed to those who fund murderers, totally disregarded Israel, ignored our fallen soldiers at Normandy, gifted the Queen of England with an I pod loaded with “Ode to Obama”, attempted to make Americans ashamed of their country and declared that we are basically a secular nation not a Christian one despite the fact that we were founded on Christian Judeo values and principles– the same Christian Judeo values and principles that are responsible for giving HIM the remarkable life which he enjoys here in the United States of America. Puke worthy.

Missed ya on Tammy Radio while I was at work Monday and Tuesday.. :-p

If it were me, I would not let LA Times even send me their fishwrap for free to keep their subscriber base numbers artificially inflated…

I love how quickly this turned around. I don’t know how it happened, but being that the crew was American I can only surmise it turned around quickly, well, because the crew was American. We don’t take no crud off nobody – mess with us and pay the price.

And Shawmut, I’m glad I wasn’t drinking my morning tea when I read your post. You are hilarious.

Unfortunately, you are probably right in your assessment of how it will be handled.

The real question is – what would Obama have done if the American crew was unable to overcome their attackers? Would he negotiate with them thereby setting a dangerous precedent?

I’m not saying we had to go to war, but a Navy Seal team would be good, or whatever other cover ops we have.

American has never negotiated with such thugs and we should not start doing it now.

I heard also that the Messiah was “resting” after his return from Europe/Middle East. I don’t doubt the whole thing was tiring. My husband returned for leave from Iraq and it’s a long trip all told and for at least two or three days he was exhausted just from the traveling.

But I don’t recall hearing former Presidents “resting” so much. It seems like Reagan, as old as he was, had more energy that this guy who is only 10 years older than me!

Does he seem like a wuss to anyone else?

(Like I need to ask, right?)

We need to understand why these pirates don’t like us. Maybe they are still upset at Jefferson over the Barbary Coast War? Maybe colleges can start offering courses in helping us understand them?

Pirates are to be hanged from the nearest yardarm.

Did the crew use excessive force when they retook the ship? Did they read the “pirate” his Miranda rights statement? Did they follow all the provisiona in the soldier’s manual? Was here even a whiffie of Geneva Convention violation even thought ht “pirates” don’t subscribe to it. Is there some obscure technical issue that will allow mr obama to bring the “pirates” home to America, turn them lose and give them welfare payments.

Will mr obama apologize to the “pirates” to get their approval or will he, at last, show strength and make them walk the plank. If mr obama sdoes the latter, he will give us the benefit of having created “good pirates” who will not do pitate stuff again.

My crew would have been prepared for such scum. :) The media would never have even heard about the incident. My log entry that day would have said: 04/08/09: Fed the sharks. Delivered cargo. Cracked open a beer. The end. :-p
