There are grounds for cautious optimism that we may now be near the end of the search for the ultimate laws of nature. —-Steven Hawking

Contributing to closing in on the ultimate laws of nature, scientists at the University of Massachusetts studied hammering ability. They found that men are better than women at hammering in the dark whereas women are better at hammering in the light. Alas, there is as yet no scientific explanation for this. They say it will require a lot more data, i.e., more studies. I’d say the women probably think it’s a bit foolish to hammer in the dark.

When Hammering, Women Nail It

We filmed how subjects hammered, and how close the subject hammered to the target was an index of accuracy,” explained study leader Duncan Irschick at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

“On average, men were about 25 percent more accurate than women in the dark, women were about 10 percent more accurate then men in the light,” Irschick said.

Irschick told LiveScience that the difference could be that men and women have different hammering strategies: Perhaps men favor force over accuracy, and women the opposite, he said. “However, if this were true, men should always be less accurate than women, which is not what occurs.”

He favors this explanation:

“Men and women differ in their ability to perceive objects in light versus dark environments, and this has a subsequent effect on motor control,” he speculates. “This is a provocative idea that will require a lot more data to test, and at this point, we don’t have a good handle on the nature of the motor control and perceptive differences that would induce this difference, but we are excited to find out.”

Let’s not pursue these futile studies about the differences between men and women. We are more more likely to understand the ultimate laws of nature than fathoming the abyss between the sexes. Scientists should concentrate their research on things that will take us to greater heights of understanding our world. Things like the groundbreaking trampoline safety study.

Well, I have been suggesting a Palin/Bachmann ticket of late, but with the exception of a couple of colleagues, no grabbers yet! :) Frankly, I just got a lot of flack because conservatives are still clinging to the old guard that has gotten us into this mess just as much as the liberals, and worse, because the former should know better!

I don’t need to agree with fellow conservatives on every one of their positions, even on relatively major issues (e.g., abortion, same-sex marriage…) to believe that the country would benefit tremendously from these two females’ strength and integrity on major issues that, if not handled properly, pretty much allow the other major issues mentioned to fly out the window, as should be quite obvious from the current state of affairs in this country…and it will only get worse.

These two women are right on in terms of our Constitution, Second Amendment, National Security, and National Sovereignty and, without those in order, all the other “rights” in the world mean little without one’s ability to live with that foundation. It’s called picking your battles and prioritizing, and this is coming from a female who believes she has a right to same-sex marriage under God and certainly believes in a right, albeit limited, to abortion. In other words, if you aren’t protected by the glory of our Constitution, supreme national security, absolute national sovereignty, and the ability to defend yourself and others against criminals, including a tyrannical government, other fundamental rights, while of primary importance, must be put into perspective. We can still love who we love, but will we live long enough to enjoy it?

Since when do Islamofascists respect same-sex marriage, let alone homosexuals?! Give me a break! What on earth were people thinking? Well, they weren’t thinking, they were being sheep just lining up for slaughter. Oh, and back to the subject of the “sexes”…does anyone even have to ask the question whether they are equal under the current state of affairs, where Islamofascism and Sharia Law are to be on par, if not supercede, the United States Constitution? Are we hitting the nail on the head yet?

Maybe that explains why men prefer to nail women in the dark while hammered? I’ll see if I can apply for a stimulus grant to study the matter. In the meantime, I’ll stick to part-time research.
